Ms. Li Quanying Arrested in Luzhou City, Sichuan Province

August 31, 2010 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent from Sichuan province

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Li Quanying, a Falun Gong practitioner in Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, was taken away by three unidentified people on the morning of August 4, 2010. Her present whereabouts are still unknown. The governmental department involved is refusing to reveal her whereabouts. Her family was told that she is being "educated" and there is nothing to worry about. She is likely being detained at the local brainwashing center.

Five other practitioners have also been illegally arrested recently, and the whereabouts of all of them are currently unknown.

1. A Family Searches for Their Loved One

Three unidentified men took away Ms. Li Quanying at around 10:00 a.m. on August 4, while she was at work at a bingo hall in Chongwan, Lantian County, Luzhou City.

That afternoon when Ms. Li's son found out that his mother had been illegally arrested, he went to Mianhuapo Town Police Station and Anfu Police Station in Naxi District to inquire about her whereabouts. He later called the Domestic Security Division in Naxi District, but the police denied any knowledge of her arrest.

At 8:00 p.m. Ms. Li Quanying's sister-in-law asked her family to take Ms. Li's clothes to Mianhuapo Police Station. When the family arrived there at around 10:00 p.m., the officer on duty claimed that he didn't know anything about her or her whereabouts. After they called Wang Anbing, head of Zhulin Village, the officer on duty said, "I don't know where she is. Just bring her clothes here tomorrow."

On the morning of August 5, Ms. Li Quanying's family obtained a contact number for Ms. Li's sister-in-law, that was left by an officer, and the family called the number to inquire. They were told to take her clothes to the Mianhuapo Town government office. The officer there was Tian Taiyun, head of the Town Comprehensive Administration Office.

Ms. Li's son spoke with Tian Taiyun at around 11:00 a.m. Tian said, "Your mother is safe here. She is being 'educated' with other seniors. She will return home after she has been well educated." When asked where Li Quanying was, however, Tian refused to answer.

Ten days have elapsed since Ms. Li was arrested. Nonetheless, the relevant authorities still refuse to tell her family her whereabouts.

2. "A Secret"

Li Quanying's husband and son spoke with Tian Taiyun again on August 10. Tian has been in charge of the persecution of local Falun Gong practitioners since 2001. He was also directly involved in setting up the local brainwashing center. He has coordinated with the local 610 Office to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their faith. Li Quanying's husband was once illegally detained there and subjected to cruel abuse for two-and-a-half years.

Tian Taiyun didn't answer any of the husband's questions. Instead, he went out to make two phone calls.

Two plainclothes police officers later came to Li Quanying's home. One of them, named Jiang, said in a threatening tone, "Are you creating trouble?" Her husband answered, "No. My wife has been taken away and has been missing for six or seven days. At least you could tell me where she is and which law she has broken." Jiang didn't say a word. The other policeman said ferociously, "No comment! This is a secret! Not even the Procuratorate knows about this!"

On August 10, Li Quanying's husband spoke with the Party head of Mianhuapo Town. He said that he was not in charge of Ms. Li's arrest, but he said that it was quite reasonable to illegally arrest and "re-educate" Li Quanying, even though she had broken no laws.

The husband went to the Town Comprehensive Administration Office again on the morning of August 11. He was told that his wife was living comfortably, with a television for her to watch and a working air-conditioner. However, he was still not informed of her location.

3. People Should Not Be Persecuted Because of Their Faith

Prior to practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Li Quanying had anemia, gastropathy, and coryza. After learning Falun Gong, her illnesses disappeared and she became healthy. She had often had conflicts in the past with her sister-in-law and mother-in-law, but after taking up the practice, she gained a different perspective on their conflicts and apologized to them.

By becoming a Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Li fundamentally changed her life. She came to feel that her life had substance and meaning. Why did these people break the law in arresting such a good and innocent person and detain her in a brainwashing center?
