(Clearwisdom.net) I think that one of the fundamental differences between cultivators and ordinary people is demonstrated in how they go about doing something that they want to do.

For instance, an ordinary person will decide that he/she wants to do something, and then will see if it can be done--what the difficulties (financial, physical, emotional, etc) are and whether they can be overcome or not.

A cultivator decides that something needs to be done and then figures out how to overcome any difficulties in order to accomplish the task.

Being able to move past the realm that causes us to pause or detour because of difficulties and obstacles, opens up a vast new realm. And this is a realm that is completely open in possibilities and not limited by any ordinary human concerns.

This realm cannot be reached by artificial means or by just wanting or willing it to be so--it must be reached step by step, through arduous and diligent cultivation, and reaching it determines whether we can save those sentient beings who are counting on us.
