(Clearwisdom.net) ST. LOUIS--St. Louis, the "Gateway to the West," enthusiastically welcomed the Shen Yun Performing Arts World Tour to the Bezemes Family Theater, at Lindenwood University's J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts on Thursday, Feb. 11.
The New York-based company, Shen Yun Performing Arts, provides a unique chance to enjoy the grace and beauty of ancient Chinese myths, legends and ethnic dances, and Chinese classical dance.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bouchein couldn't have been more thrilled. Mrs. Bouchein said, "This is very elegant, extremely elegant, the costumes were just out of this world. This is just a beautiful, graceful, elegant evening. It's like nothing we have witnessed before in our life. This is a thrill for us!"
Mrs. Bouchein has a message for her friends: "I would tell them to get here as quickly as they possibly can. This is beautiful and exquisite ... it's almost to the point that it almost makes you want to cry it's so beautiful. It's so graceful."
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bouchein: "couldn't have been more thrilled"
Mr. Bouchein, a retired CEO of a software company, said of the performances, "I think the beauty of the artistic work and [how] they handle themselves on the stage is fantastic!"
Chinese classical dance is physically very demanding yet it provides a rich vehicle for expression. Audiences world-wide are thrilled by the aerial skills required by the dancers.
Mrs. Bouchein said, "It's so beautiful, so elegant, so graceful, and just so exquisite that's all you can say about it. Especially the one with the embroidery, [Elegant Embroidery] and the butterflies, the sunflowers, or the flowers."
According to the program, ancient Chinese women prided themselves on their embroidery, known for its delicate needlework and exquisite designs. Dancers here stitch on silk with light and nimble fingers, bringing blossoms to bloom as they evoke images of a charming past.
"Visually stunning"
Mr. Geoff Getty and his wife were also in the audience warmly welcoming the return of Shen Yun to St. Louis. "The colors are amazing," said Mr. Getty, a financial investment manager. His wife Kim agreed, "Yes, it's beautiful."
She added, "The dancing . . . I like the gracefulness of the dancers, it is really nice, it is really graceful."
Mr. Getty said he would recommend Shen Yun to his friends, "I would tell them 'go see it.' Just because it is 'visually stunning', the way the dancers move--it is really, really bright."
"Like one beautiful painting after another" says company owner
"It was like one beautiful painting after another that came to life," said company owner Ms. Garrison of the performance.
"It was a wonderful show, unique, and lovely, and the precision was beautiful," said Ms. Garrison of the dances.
Ms. Garrison and her friend Ms. Petrie at the Shen Yun Performing Arts show
Ms. Garrison and her husband own a company whose product is distributed internationally. She attended with her friend Ms. Petrie, a professor in education at a local university.
Ms. Petrie commented on the beautiful and unique presentation. She said, "The choreography of the dancing, really it was spectacular. I really enjoyed it." She advised people not to miss it.
Ms. Garrison added, "I would say same thing, it's colorful, it's stimulating, you can feel the vibration in the room and on top of it the orchestra was unbelievable. We didn't realize at first that it was a live orchestra and that it was not taped music brought in. The combination was spectacular! I did not know what to expect. It was wonderful."
Most impressed with the dance and its history, Ms. Garrison, stressed how precise all the dancing was.
Shen Yun is known for its synchronized patterns. It is the only company which adheres to the tradition of authentic classical dance, a dance form that allows seemingly effortless grace and vigorous athleticism.
New to Chinese culture, Ms. Garrison hopes that her son, with a Masters degree in acupuncture and Chinese medicine, will be able to see the show. She is sending him the brochure.
"It was spectacular. I really enjoyed it," she said.
