(Clearwisdom.net) In the process of saving people, one must be benevolent and unaffected by human attachments. One must always follow the Fa. When this happens, Teacher will inspire us with wisdom, untie the knots in the hearts of others, and save us.
Once I went to the supermarket and met a woman who was a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). When I asked her to quit the CCP, she said, "I feel that Mr. Hu and Mr. Wen are different from previous leaders. Things are improving." I replied, "Untie the knot in your heart. The CCP is like a wilted tree whose roots have rotted. You cannot revive it by grafting on a couple of new branches." She got the point and quit the CCP immediately. I persuaded her so easily, I did not even need to discuss Hu and Wen with her.
Once I told the facts about Falun Gong to a taxi driver. He said that the CCP itself was good but its officials were bad. I said, "Think about it, my brother. If only one official were bad, that would be an isolated instance. But if everyone becomes bad after joining the CCP and becoming an official, then it is the party itself that is bad. There is a saying in Chinese, 'Whoever gets too close to the ink turns black.'" Once he recognized the evil of the CCP, it was much easier to persuade him to quit.
Once I discussed quitting the CCP with a 20-year-old woman. As soon as I began, she said unsympathetically, "This is all being done by Falun Gong." I replied, "Well, let me tell you something, and then you will understand. Think about it: nowadays, doesn't everyone do things only for his own interest or fame? Why do you think Falun Gong practitioners are doing these things? They quietly put DVDs and pamphlets into your bicycle basket or on your door without your even knowing it. They certainly aren't doing it for fame. They produce all the DVDs and other materials themselves, and with their own money. They certainly aren't doing it for profit. On the contrary, they are actually risking their own lives, and they are not asking for anything in return. Aren't they doing this just so you can know the truth and be saved? Where else could you find such good people in our society?" She suddenly seemed to realize that practitioners had other people's best interests at heart. It then became easier to tell her other things about Falun Gong, and she soon quit the CCP.
When telling people the facts, they sometimes ask, "If Falun Gong is so good, why is the CCP so much against it?" I respond by asking the question, "Why did the Cultural Revolution, which persecuted citizens for ten years, occur only in China and no other country in the world? It is because the very nature of the CCP is evil. In fact, all its persecutions have been against those who told the truth and held fast to it. This is why Falun Gong has spread to over a hundred countries around the world but is brutally persecuted in China alone." Because the Cultural Revolution was so traumatic for the Chinese people, using it to illustrate the evil of the CCP is often very convincing. Once people understand this, it is usually an easy matter to get them to quit.
There are also people with delusions about China's apparent political strength. They feel that it would be impossible for the CCP to collapse. To counter this misconception, I ask, "Do you remember how strong the Soviet Union was at one time? No one would believe it if someone had said that it was going to collapse. There was a little book sold in Shanghai in 1989 that said the Soviet Union could collapse at any time. But no one believed it, thinking that it was a fantasy. But the Soviet Union did collapse overnight in 1991. This tells us that many things are controlled not by people, but by heaven. Now the appearance of the 'carved stone' is a warning sign from heaven (1). We must follow the will of heaven to be safe." After this explanation, asking them to quit the CCP is easy.
My brother in-law and his wife did not get along well. The only time I would see his wife was every New Year's Day at my parents-in-law's house. Before New Year's Day in 2006, I decided to tell her the facts. I remember that I was washing dishes with her that night in the kitchen while my parents-in-law and husband were talking in the living room. I chatted with her while sending forth righteous thoughts, and I gradually changed the subject to quitting the CCP. Although she knew the facts about Falun Gong, she still hesitated to quit the CCP. She wanted to put it off, saying that she needed to discuss it with her husband. I replied sincerely, "We are a family, and I say this for your own good. We meet only once a year, and I don't want you to miss an opportunity. Since you know the facts already, do you really need to discuss this with your husband? Why don't I make up a name for you so you can do it now?" It was probably my benevolence that moved her, and she agreed.
We will meet all kinds of people in the course of telling the facts. When we encounter those who do not want to listen or who have different concerns, we should still treat them with benevolence. In this situation, I usually say, "That is fine. You may need some time to think it over. But at least you have heard this most important message. Please don't miss the opportunity the next time someone presents it." Most people happily agree.
As Fa-rectification period disciples, saving sentient beings is our mission and responsibility. To accomplish it, we need to study the Fa as much as we can and maintain our righteous thoughts. Keeping in mind that we are trying to save sentient beings, we can appreciate Teacher's benevolent arrangements.
