(Clearwisdom.net) (By a correspondent from Guangdong Province) On September 23, 2007, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Long Guande, from Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, was illegally arrested. He was savagely beaten by the arresting officers and critically injured. Since his arrest, prison authorities have refused to give him access to medical treatment. On May 20, 2009, Tianhe District Court in Guangzhou City sentenced him to a term of seven years. On August 18, 2009, he was transferred to Sihui City Prison.
Since Mr. Long's arrest and imprisonment, his family members have on many occasions asked the prison authorities to allow them to visit him. They have been turned away each time.
Without gaining permission from the prison authorities, Mr. Long's family still tried to visit him. On September 2, 2009, they went to Sihui City Prison. They weren't allowed to see him until they pleaded with the prison authorities repeatedly. They were allowed to see him, and to their surprise, they found that Mr. Long's appearance had changed dramatically. Previously young and strong before his arrest, he was now emaciated and aged.
A blood test and X-ray determined that the police beatings had severely injured Mr. Long's right lung, leading to tissue adhesion and a partially collapsed right lung. The pain was so severe that he couldn't sleep soundly, and he even had problems breathing. The prison authorities however, refused to give him access to medical treatment.
Mr. Long's family is issuing an urgent call to human rights organizations, foreign governments, and the international community to pay close attention to and help rescue severely persecuted Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Long Guande in Guangdong Province.
