(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Shi Yun of Kunming City has been denied family visitation since she was detained in the Yunan Province Second Women's Prison over a year ago.
The following is an open letter written by Shi Yun's husband, Mr. Jiang Yuliu, to the Kunming City Procuratorate.
My name is Jiang Yuliu. My wife, Shi Yun has been illegally detained in the Yunan Province Second Women's Prison since May 22, 2008. More than one year has passed and my three-year-old son and I have not once seen my wife.
I have taken my son with me to visit my wife at the Yunan Province Second Women's Prison numerous times. However, the prison guards always denied our visitation, using the excuse that my wife is under "strict control." They even denied my request to allow my son see his mother. The guards told us to go to the 610 Office in Xishan District and get a certificate to visit my wife, so we went to the 610 Office. However, a man surnamed Dong sent us back to the prison, claiming that it was up to the prison and had nothing to do with the 610 Office. So my son and I traveled back and forth between the prison and the 610 Office. More than a year has passed and my son and I still have not seen my wife.
My wife was arrested by police officers from Xiaonanmen Police Station in Wuhua District Police Department on September 30, 2007 and detained in the Wuhua District Detention Center the following day. On November 1, 2007, the Kunming City Wuhua District Procuratorate issued an official warrant for the arrest of my wife. On May 7, 2008, the Kunming City Provincial Intermediate Court sentenced her to seven years in prison.
The family did not receive notice of Shi Yun's imprisonment and we have never received a letter or phone call from her over the past year. We know nothing of what has happened to her. The money I send to Shi Yun every month has always been signed for by a prison guard named Ma Min, so I do not know if Shi Yun has ever received the money. Because of this, I'm making the following demands:
First, I demand that the Law Enforcement Supervision Office urge the Yunan Province Second Women's Prison to allow for family visitation with Shi Yun.
Second, I demand an investigation to hold accountable those who denied me family visitation rights.
