Frankfurt on the DPA: This is of the Greatest Importance! (Photos)

February 24, 2009 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Divine Performing Arts (DPA) 2009 World Tour presentation opened to standing ovations at the popular venue, Jahrhunderthalle (Century Hall), in Frankfurt on Feb. 21.

Columbian diplomat Mr. Arbelaez and his wife Ms. Rodado came with their child. They became interested in seeing the show because of all the colorful posters around the Frankfurt area, and were very glad that they did. "It was the best performance that I've ever seen! The dances were very, very nice. It was all very colorful," Ms. Rodado said.

Mr. Arbelaez echoed her appreciation for the show: "It combines many things. It has dance, music--it's amazing that it's live music, and it combines dance with some theater and it also has a message. It is a very complete thing. Plus the singers, I was pretty amazed by that! The costumes are incredible. They are very, very well designed. That and the mixture of many male and female dancers really stand out. It has everything."

"Surprising and interesting - I want more of it!"

Another audience member, Mr. Subat, attended without any preconceived ideas and came out of curiosity.

"In the past, I never paid much attention to Chinese culture, except for the little part that we learn about in our cultural circle ... It was surprising--surprising in many respects. It was unusual, it was very interesting in a positive way."

"There were all these colors. It was a bubbly, beautiful, and fast show. There were many elements that seemed familiar. This was also the case with the orchestra--there were some elements that seemed familiar. But then again everything was foreign and it was full of suspense for that reason. Strangely familiar, yet also foreign the next moment. It was really exciting for those reasons.

"This was my impression of Chinese culture. Now I feel like I want more of it. Five thousand years of culture means something. Yes, it really means something," declared Mr. Subat.

Attending as part of the very enthusiastic audience was Dr. Hoelscher, a well-known scientist and author. "From an aesthetic point of view, I was impressed [with the show]. But, it also is a little distressing because it speaks of a China, mainly mainland China, that persecutes families, as seen from the prison scene, [Dignity and Compassion]. This is naturally very sad. When one sits there and watches the show, one cannot forget that this is reality. Hopefully it will change soon!"

Dr. Hoelscher somberly added that he felt the situation in China could be changed if the truth were known, however, "First of all, it is one's own path. I don't know if a brutal regime will change itself. It is quite clear however, if China does not change, it will someday pull that entire world into an abyss."

He added that it was important to the Chinese nation to revive traditional Chinese culture this way. "Communism was imported into China from outside the country, and I personally think that it is of greatest importance that China become aware of its traditions, and, as stated by the hosts, brought to the 21st Century, especially since communism is not a Chinese tradition. This is of the greatest importance! Be it Buddha or Confucius, these are variables that can tell us a lot. Then, if the regime in China changes, only then will there be a place for us, if we take the middle road, the road of humility. I truly believe that the Far Eastern philosophy is also of great importance to Europe. But, the way things are in China can no longer be sustained."

When asked what impressed him most from an artistic standpoint, he said, "It was the erhu. I liked listening to that instrument the most. All the others were very beautiful, but this music was meditation music!"
