(Clearwisdom.net) Shen Yun Performing Arts opened in Houston, Texas, to a sold-out audience at Jones Hall on Monday, December 21, 2009, as part of their 2010 World Tour.
Cecil Willis, Councilor of the City of Stafford, spoke briefly
at the after-show reception held for the special guests and
performers of Shen Yun.
Mr. Willis said, "Being a native Texan, I don't get exposed to this
type of culture. I'm more country and western and I've got my boots
on! But I want to tell you that I was impressed--and those that
know me know that it takes a lot to impress me--but I was really
impressed by the costumes, by the music, by the total performance
that y'all put on tonight, and if I have the opportunity, I will be
back next year and I will recommend it to each and every one that I
come in contact with."
"I don't possess the words to adequately describe what we saw here
tonight, but I will just say it was wonderful, and I will be more
than happy to come back and see it again. Thank you."

State Representative Thanks Shen Yun for Visiting Houston
Texas State Representative Dr. Alma A. Allen also spoke at the
reception, thanking the organizers "for bringing this beautiful
show to our beautiful city."
"Christmas is not complete unless I see something from the arts,
and this has been very, very, very special," she told the
crowd.

Prior to being elected state representative, Dr. Allen was
elected to and served on the State Board of Education for over a
decade. She holds both Masters and Doctoral degrees in
education.
This is the second year she has seen the show, and she plans to see
it next year as well.
"I hope you have Houston on your tour list [next year], and we hope
that you come back again," she said.
She thanked the New York-based Shen Yun for the cultural learning
experience.
"The show was absolutely lovely, and I think many of the people in
the audience will agree with me," she said.
"So thank you very, very much for sharing not only your performing
arts, but also sharing your culture with us."
City Councilor Sees Shen Yun Promoting World Harmony
Newly-elected Councilor Mr. Al Hoang of District F in the City
of Houston also attended the Shen Yun performance.
Mr. Hoang, of Vietnamese descent, commented that the show was
beautiful. "This performance, [it's] so great."
Mr. Al Hoang, Councilor from the City of Houston
Mr. Hoang said that he had seen shows in many different
countries, but deeply enjoyed Shen Yun.
"I like the show here today because not only do they share the
performance itself, but the philosophy behind it. The philosophy
behind it is so great. [....] We share the same common idea, the
same philosophy, the striving for freedom, the striving for the
better[ment] of the human race, and I like that."
"I think that [Shen Yun] teaches us not only perseverance, but to
harmonize, for the peace and love and harmony of the world, so I
love this. This is great."
Mr. Hoang was empathetic with Falun Dafa and the scenes that told
of the modern-day courage of practitioners of this spiritual
discipline who are being persecuted by the Communist regime in
China for their belief.
