(Clearwisdom.net) While on a business trip a fellow practitioner from a distant city came to visit me. He had given up cultivation under pressure from his family and authorities while detained. His original plan was to return home immediately after finishing with his business, but he decided to stay longer. He said to me, "Upon entering your house I felt really good. I wanted to study Falun Dafa and do the exercises with you, and I felt like crying."

So my husband and I studied the principles of Falun Dafa with the visitor for two days. We read Guiding the Voyage, Explaining the Fa During the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference, etc. The objective was to let him understand his true role in life, the influence of the old forces, and his duty to the sentient beings. He was strongly affected by what we read and he cried a lot. He was not tired from studying and he was so moved that he was resolved to be a true practitioner.

He said, "Tears were flowing down my face when I read the Fa. This happened before when I went to Beijing in 1999, and when I stood in front of Master's picture. Today I feel the same way."

I said to him, "You should be a practitioner now. If you wait any longer you may regret it."

In June of 2006, he came to my home and stayed for 12 hours. He did not understand the purpose of sending forth the righteous thoughts. Reading what Master said in "A Will That Ebbs Not",

"Purging evil as if but whisking dust away."

helped him understand and he learned how to send righteous thoughts.

I told him that he needed to openly declare his intention to be a practitioner. He promised to do that after he returned home, but he did not. In his home town there were some misguided practitioners who influenced him.

He told me that he was studying the Fa very seriously for a period of time after he returned home in 2006, but was not able to persist. He wanted to call me but was ashamed to do so.

After studying the Fa together for two days, he said sincerely that he needed someone to study the Fa with. He did not want to hear about other people's experiences. My husband gave him an MP3 player so he could listen to Master's lectures. He was very grateful. He wrote a declaration to be a practitioner before he left to return home.

This practitioner was a coordinator in the area in which he lived. He went with other practitioners to Beijing to explain the facts about Falun Dafa after July 20, 1999. When the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) announced that party members were not allowed to practice Falun Gong, he withdrew from the party. Furthermore, he gave up his job so that the company he worked for would not be harassed. The CCP set up roadblocks on highways and the train stations leading to Beijing. To avoid the police he actually walked 157 kilometers (near 98 miles) to Beijing in one night! Both he and his wife were arrested and sentenced to prison. They were severely tortured while they were in prison.

After nine months of imprisonment, the CCP pressured his parents (who were over 60 years old) and his 13-year-old child into visiting him in prison to get him to give in. They cried and begged him to return home. The prison officials told him that he only needed to sign a document indicating that he would give up practicing Falun Gong. After he signed one document, he was asked to sign another this happened several times. He was gradually led away from Dafa.

Since he had renounced Dafa it was necessary for him to declare openly his return to Dafa. I hope that other practitioners will try to help practitioners who have gone astray, because Master did not give up on them. Master said in Fa Teaching at the 2009 Greater New York International Fa Conference,

"Saving people is just that, saving people, and to pick and choose would not be merciful."

Hence, as long as a person wants to return to practicing Falun Dafa, we should offer him the opportunity.

I think the way to help fellow practitioners is to assist them in studying the Fa. We should not talk about the persecution as that will bring up bad memories. I believe that after they have studied the Fa thoroughly they will know what to do. The reason is that when one is serious about studying the Fa, Master will guide that person. I believe this point is essential for all of us to remember.

In talking to the practitioner I found that there was another block. He read a report on the Minghui website [Chinese version of Clearwisdom] that was not accurate. Members of the CCP would say, "Your Master told you to read articles on Minghui, but those reports were not true."

While listening to what he was telling me, I sent righteous thoughts to remove the evil factors that were blocking him. I think the proper process is to study Guiding the Voyage, together. In Teaching the Fa at the Western U.S. Fa Conference, we read,

"There's something I told you before. I said: what is a Buddha? 'Tathagata' is what human beings call someone who's come with the truth and the power to do what he wants, whereas real Buddhas are guardians of the cosmos and are responsible for all righteous elements in the cosmos."

After studying the Fa, I expressed my view on the issue. I said, "I would want to report to Minghui exactly what I saw and experienced. I am sure Minghui reports the facts. The environment we experience is created by ourselves. Every one of us has the responsibility to improve it. Knowing that the CCP is evil, I do not doubt that it will create false information about Minghui to confuse us." Upon hearing what I said he nodded in agreement.

This is how I helped a fellow practitioner. I think it is important to listen to his problems and then look to the Fa to resolve them. Master says in "Drive Out Interference" from Essentials for Further Advancement II,

"The Fa can break all attachments, the Fa can destroy all evil, the Fa can shatter all lies, and the Fa can strengthen righteous thoughts."

Let us be guided by the Fa, accomplish our goals, assist Master in Fa rectification, move up and forward as one body without losing any fellow practitioners, mature quickly in understanding the Fa, and return home with Master.
