Eliminate Attachments to Overcome the Internet Blockade

October 14, 2009 |   By a Dafa practitioner in Hubei Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Editor's note: The 60th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party taking power in China was on Oct. 1st. In anticipation of this event, overly nervous and sensitive regime has taken a series of measures to further restrict Internet access during this period out of fear of any unexpected event that could trigger its collapse.

Recently, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has strengthened its Internet blockade making it difficult for us to read Clearwisdom.net and send out the names of people who want to quit the party. This made me feel anxious and made it difficult to accomplish the three things in an orderly manner. But when calmly thinking about it, I realized that all the uneasiness, frustration and anger are human notions.

Teacher said,

"Everything that the evil has done has actually targeted the attachments and fears that you have not let go of."

("Eliminate Your Last Attachment(s)", Essentials for Further Advancement II)

Teacher also told us,

"Nothing happens in cultivation without a reason. When incorrect states and bad human conduct surface among us, those things have come to target human attachments. We don't acknowledge the old forces' arrangements, but, when we fail to do well they will exploit our gaps. So, perhaps it was that a particular place needed to be targeted in that manner, and that was why an incident happened.

("Fa Teaching at the 2009 Washington DC International Fa Conference, July 18, 2009")

Teacher also said,

"Those ordeals and the suffering, no matter how great or harsh you find them to be, are good things, because they take place solely on account of your cultivation.

("Fa Teaching at the 2008 New York Conference, May 24, 2008, in Manhattan")

Then, what kinds of human notions or attachments do we have that made it possible for the evil to exploit our gaps? Furthermore, how could we turn the blockade of the Internet into something beneficial for our cultivation?

After studying the Fa and looking inward, I realized that I was spending a lot of time paying attention to ordinary human politics and hoping for an early downfall of the CCP. On a daily basis, in addition to doing Dafa work, I'd quickly get on ordinary people's websites, spending at least twenty to thirty minutes, or even an hour or more poking around. I've been doing this every day for several years. I've gotten myself hooked on it, and I'd feel like I was missing something if I missed a day. Now, I'm wondering how much valuable time and energy I've wasted. Teacher said,

"Don't get involved in ordinary affairs, and don't partake in ordinary people's politics. I have made this clear." ("Fa Teaching Given at the NTDTV Meeting, June 6, 2009")

Teacher did say it clearly. However, his Fa Teaching didn't really enter my mind because I used ordinary people's websites as a way of finding mental relaxation. I failed to look within myself and instead expanded my attachment, thinking that I could leave this little attachment for Teacher to eliminate for me at the last step. I used the excuse of, "If not for this, how could I survive all these lonesome days?"

Maybe it is because of our attachments that the old forces were exploiting our gaps. Maybe, this is the end of the final stage and we should eliminate all attachments. Maybe, the old forces had sufficient reasons for blocking our Internet access because of Dafa practitioners' strong attachments. Without eliminating human notions, how could we reach consummation? With so many Dafa practitioners spending so much time focusing on ordinary human things; when the Fa starts rectifying human society, who will be left to rectify?

While thinking about this, I came to understand how the evil could restrict the Internet. I also felt that we could use the restriction to look within ourselves, eliminate attachments and become mature sooner. Not long after the increased Internet restrictions began, I again was able to view Clearwisdom.net, as well as send out the list of people who want to quit the party and other articles every day.

Now, I have a deeper understanding of what Teacher meant when he said,

"This instant is precious beyond measure."

("Teaching the Fa in the City of Chicago, June 26, 2005")

At the same time, I feel deeply about two things: One is, as long as what we do is righteous, Teacher will help us make it successful. The other is, as long as what we do is for saving people, the evil won't dare to interfere with us and will be unable to stop us. Teacher has mentioned this in the Fa many times. The final leg of the path is very narrow and very difficult. However, with righteous thoughts and righteous actions, and as long as we believe in Teacher and trust the Fa, we will prevail.

Fellow practitioners, please kindly correct my errors.
