Mr. Liu Zongyong is from Yujialing Village, Luan'nan County, Hebei Province. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, staff members from Shangbozi Township government repeatedly called his home to harass him. One time, they took him to a brainwashing center. He escaped and was forced to be homeless to avoid arrest for more than one year.

Liu Zongyong was first arrested back in December 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was arrested and beaten by police officers. Later, he was taken back by the police from Luan'nan County Police Department. He was detained in Luan'nan County Detention Center for 7 months.

In November 2005, he was arrested and held in the detention center for 8 months. His home was searched. Later, he was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment. He was taken to Jidong Prison where he has been detained for more than two years. He has developed prostatitis and his lower body has developed festering wounds from the abuse.
