On the evening of April 11, 2007, several practitioners in Dunhuang City went to Akesai to clarify the truth, including Li Runhua, Bai Sheying, Du Meilan, Lu Fengmei, Du Sheng, Song Jianzhong, Zhou Lanying, and Su Yufeng. Officers from the Akesai Police Station National Security Division illegally arrested them and took them to Akesai Police Station. That night, police officers kicked Song Jianzhong down to the ground and handcuffed him. Du Sheng was struck repeatedly in the head. When Li Runhua was trying to stop the police from beating others, she was also struck in the head. On April 14, police went to these eight practitioners' homes to confiscate their property.

Zhou Lanying is 70 years old and has been very healthy since beginning to practice Dafa. During detention, Zhang Shengzhi (an officer from Dunhuang Police Department) terrified, threatened, and humiliated Zhou many times.

These eight practitioners were detained in Hongliuwan Detention Center at Akesai for more than 6 months. On October 22, 2007, the Akesai Court and Procuratorial Office sentenced Li Runhua and Bai Sheying to three and a half years, Du Meilan and Lu Fengmei to two and a half years, and Du Sheng and Song Jianzhong to two years with a temporary suspension of two years. Su Yufeng and Zhou Lanying appeared sick and were released home. Several police officers were involved in the persecution including Liu Hongwei, Cao Jianzhong, Zheng Xiaohui, and Akemuhan. Dunhuang City Police Department National Security Division police officers Zhang Shengzhi and Liu Jinxuan were involved in the trial.
