(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 20 cities or counties in 10 provinces. In this report, 41 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 20 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Beijing] Supplementary Information on Practitioners Taken into Custody in January 2008
On January 24, 2008, officers of the Dongcheng Police Department, using the excuse of preparing for the Olympic Games, launched a city-wide campaign to take practitioners into custody. It has been learned that the following practitioners have been unlawfully captured: Mr. Jiao Jian, Mr, Chen Gang, Mr. Chen Jiaolong, Ms. Yu Yajing, Mr. Wen Jiaqi, Mr. Han Ligang, Ms. Zuo Yan, Ms. Liu Yan, Ms. Dong Tingshui, Ms. Yu Yafang, a teacher with the last name Qi, a lady with the last name Zhang, Ms. Zhang Guanghua, Mr. Chen Gang, Ms. Su Na, Ms. Fu Jinyu, Mr. Gu Xinhua, Mr. Zhang Haibo, Ms. Zhang Hai'ou, Ms. Zhao Shuqin, Mr. Yang Moyu, and Ms. Yang Junmei.
2. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Practitioners Hunger Striking to Protest Beatings by Labor Camp Guards
Mr. Zhao Jian, a practitioner being held at the No. 3 Division of No. 1 Institute of the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, shouted "Falun Dafa is great" in the dining hall, and demanded that the persecution be stopped. On February 14 and 15, 2008, labor camp guards in charge of the No. 3 Division ordered people to viciously beat Mr. Zhao Jian twice. Some of the practitioners unlawfully held in Divisions No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 have held hunger strikes in support of Mr. Zhao, demanding that those who beat Mr. Zhao be punished.
On February 18, 2008, Pan Hongzhou (male), head of the No. 2 Division, beat Ms. Gao Yuling, a practitioner from Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province, who was on hunger strike in support of Mr. Zhao. To protest the guards' brutality, on February 19, practitioners Mr. Chen Kaiqu and Mr. Liu Qing went on hunger strike. At the same time, all practitioners in the No. 2 Division started refusing to engage in forced labor.
Mr. Feng Guofu has been taken to a hospital for emergency treatment. Families of practitioners are also under severe pressure. The mother of Ms. Chen Yan (a practitioner from Heilongjiang Province currently held in the No. 2 Division) suffered a heart attack out of concern for her daughter. She has been hospitalized for emergency treatment.

3. [Benxi City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhao Shuqin Unlawfully Held at Beitai Drug Rehabilitation Center
Ms. Zhao Shuqin, a practitioner in Benxi City, went to clarify the truth on February 10, 2008. The police took her into custody. She is being held at the Beitai Drug Rehabilitation Center.
4. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Practitioner Ms. Yan Jinghua Taken into Police Custody
On the morning of February 18, 2008, Ms. Yan Jinghua went out. She was taken into custody by officers of the Ningxia Road Police Station in Qingdao City. She has not returned home. The officers searched her home on the afternoon of February 18.
5. [Shandong Province] Supplementary Information on the Arrests of Practitioners in Qingdao City, Shandong Province
Around the Chinese New Year's Day (February 7, 2008), 20 or so practitioners in Qingdao were taken into custody. According to a police officer in a local police station, the Ministry of Public Safety in Beijing was directly involved in this campaign. Each police station in Qingdao had assigned two officers to participate in this round of persecution.
6. [Panjin City, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Ms. Liu Zhenling Taken into Police Custody
On February 18, 2008, Ms. Liu Zhenling was turned in to the authorities while she was clarifying the truth. Officers of the local Youjian Police Station unlawfully took her into custody.

7. [Gaomi City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wu Peixiang Taken into Custody
Ms. Wu Peixiang, a practitioner in West Zhugou Village, Zhugou Town, Gaomi City, was turned in to the police for distributing truth clarification materials. On the afternoon of February 18, 2008, Wu Mingqiang (male) and two other officers from the Zhugou Town Police Station took her into custody. The officers also searched her home. Ms. Wu was taken to the Gaomi City Detention Center, but she was denied admission. Ms. Wu is now being held at the Zhugou Town Police Station. The police are telling Ms. Wu Peixiang's family to submit 3,000 to 5,000 yuan in exchange for her release.

8. [Yingkou City, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Ms. Ji Guihua Taken into Custody
At around 3:00 p.m. on February 19, 2008, Ms. Ji Guihua was taken from her home by officers from the Biancheng Police Station in Laobian District. Ms. Ji is being held at the Yingkou City Detention Center.

10. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Hu Huifang Forcibly Taken into Custody
After the police took five practitioners, including Ms. Chen Man and Ms. Xiong Yingzi, into custody, on February 19, 2008, a group of officers in Qingshan District, Wuhan City, broke into where practitioner Ms. Hu Huifang lives. Two male officers held Ms. Hu in the middle. They pushed her head down while twisting her arms backward. Ms. Hu cried out in pain. The officers ignored her completely.
11. [Shenmu County, Shaanxi Province] Practitioner Mr. Zhang Guangtian Taken into Custody by Plainclothes Police While Posting Banners on the Evening of February 18, 2008
12. [Botou City, Hebei Province] Officers from Waliwang Town Police Station Harass Practitioners at Home
Prior to the Chinese lunar New Year's Day (February 7, 2008), officers from the Waliwang Town Police Station went several times to homes of practitioners in Hanlin Village to harass them. The officers did not stop until they got what they wanted--2,000 yuan in cash.
13. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Practitioner Ms. Liu Hong under Surveillance
On the evening of February 20, 2008, a large number of officers sent from the 610 Office were deployed around Ms. Liu Hong's home in Wuchang District, Wuhan City. The officers were trying to take Ms. Liu and her son, Mr. Shi Xiu, into custody. Ms. Liu's husband, Mr. Shi Lei, is being unlawfully held at the Shayang Farm.
14. [Hunan Province] Additional Information on the Abuse of Practitioner Mr. Xiang Xulin and His Family
Mr. Xiang Xulin was a physician in Jin City, Hunan Province. On January 6, 2003, Mr. Xiang was tortured to death in Heshan Prison. Sources said that when Mr. Xiang was "illegally detained" in the prison, he suffered inhuman torture. Under the hot sun in June, prison guards tied him to a cement electric pole. His body was subjected to so much heat that his internal organs were damaged.
Mr. Xiang Xulin's wife, Ms. Liang Fuying, also a practitioner, went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. She was also taken into custody and subjected to abuses. Ms. Liang died on March 9, 2004, due to the misery of losing her husband and missing her three children who had been unlawfully taken into custody.
According to local sources, there are Falun Gong practitioners being held in cells filled with water in Jin City, Hunan Province, even today.
15. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Additional Information on Mr. Wu Jin's Arrest
On the morning of February 19, 2008, Mr. Wu Jin, who had been held at the Tangshan No. 1 Detention Center, was notified by the Nanbao Economic Development District Police Department that he had been sentenced to 18 months of forced labor.

16. [Tianjin] Mr. Luan Ruiqiang on Hunger Strike
Mr. Luan Ruiqian, a practitioner who works at the Dagang Oil Fields in Tianjin, is on a hunger strike protesting the persecution at the Dagang District Detention Center.

Officers of the Yingzhou Police Department in the Jizhong area in Northern China Oil Fields took into custody Ms. Liu Rujuan, who works at the Extrication Research Institute of the Northern China Oil Fields, and Ms. Li Jinhua from Tianjin. In December 2007, Ms. Li Rujuan was placed on trial at the Renqiu Oil Field Detention Center. Her children were not allowed to enter the courtroom. In late January 2008, Ms. Li Rujuan was illegally sentenced to three years in prison. She has retained an attorney in preparation for filing an appeal.
Ms. Li Jinhua was taken into custody by the Yingzhou Police Department on January 4, 2008.

20. [Fufeng County, Shaanxi Province] Three Practitioners Taken into Custody
On February 21, 2008, Mr. Gai Zhan, Mr. Zhang and Mr. Zhang's wife from Fufeng County were clarifying the truth in Rougu Township, Fufeng County. Officers of the Rougu Township Police Station took them into custody. The three practitioners are being held at the Fufeng County Detention Center.
21. [Anyue County, Sichuan Province] Practitioner Mr. Chen Youcai's Whereabouts Unknown
Mr. Chen Youcai (a.k.a. Chen Xiankang) was unlawfully sentenced to eight years in prison by the Anyue County Court. In 2001, he was taken to the No. 2 Ward in the Deyang Prison in Huangxu Town, Deyang City, Sichuan Province. It was said that he was released this year, but his family has not seen him.
22. [Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Wang Yuejun and Ms. Dong Mingfen Officially Placed under Arrest
Mr. Wang Yuejun and Ms. Dong Mingfen, two practitioners who have been unlawfully held at the Shuangyashan City Detention Center, were placed under arrest by the Jianshan District Procuratorate in Shuangyashan City on February 1, 2008.

23. [Anyang City, Hubei Province] Ms. Liu Yuling Taken into Custody
Ms. Liu Yuling went to the countryside to distribute truth clarification materials and was taken into custody by domestic security officers in Longan Listrict, Anyang City. Ms. Liu's retirement salary is the only source of income for her family. Her daughter is a freshman at a university and faces financial difficulties. Her daughter went to the Domestic Security Division and waited for a whole day. She did not get to meet with her mother.

24. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Young Practitioner Li Feiyang's Mother Taken into Custody
On the morning of February 29, 2008, the parents of Li Feiyang received notice from the Huapo Road Elementary School in Jianghan District, Wuhan City, that there was to be a meeting for parents and teachers. Li is a student in the first grade. When his mother arrived at the school, officers of the No. 1 Division of the Wuhan City Police Department took her to the Yangyuan Brainwashing Center in the Wuchang area.

26. [Beijing] Situation of Mr. Xue Fuchun's Injury
Mr. Xue Fuchun is a practitioner in Shunyi District. He was formerly a patrolling officer of the Shunyi Police Department in Beijing. In 2002, he was dismissed and taken to a forced labor camp for distributing truth clarification materials. He returned home in 2004.
On the afternoon of January 23, 2008, seven or eight police officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Shunyi Police Department and officers from the Houshayu Police Station led by a deputy director arrived at the work site where Mr. Xue was working on contract. The officers took Mr. Xue into custody and searched his home for five hours, confiscating Falun Dafa books, truth clarification materials, and a personal computer.
Mr. Xue refused to cooperate with officers who were trying to unlawfully capture him. His spine behind his neck was fractured and he passed out right away. He was taken to the Shunyi District Hospital. Due to the severity of the injury, the officers were worried about being held responsible. Mr. Xue is on parole at home pending investigation.
