Ms. Xu Lanzhen is a retired worker from the Geology Unit of Jinzhou District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province. After she took up the practice of Falun Dafa in 1996, she rejoiced in good health and became a good person with high morals. However, after the Chinese Communist regime launched the persecution of Falun Dafa, she was also a target of suppression, and those who knew her were indignant about the persecution she suffered.

On the afternoon of February 14, 2001, two police officers barged into her home and took her to the police precinct, claiming that they just needed her cooperation to clarify some information.

The head of the 610 Office, Gao Mingxi, led six police officers who ransacked her home for two hours, and confiscated all Dafa books, audio tapes, fliers, posters, etc.

When the police brought Ms. Xu to the police station, Gao asked her whether she would continue the practice of Falun Dafa. She said, "Yes, I will practice. Falun Dafa is good. There's nothing wrong with teaching one to become a good person. Practicing cultivation is the most fortunate thing in my life. I have my freedom of belief." Gao said, "If you promise to quit practicing, I will send you home right now. If you say you will continue, I will send you to jail." She said, "You can't persecute good people this way. It's a crime." Without a second thought, Gao seized her and threw her into the Sanli Detention Center in the Jinzhou District.

At noon on February 15, policemen Gao Mingxi, Liu Ying, and another officer named Tong, came to the Detention Center and took her to the second floor of the Guangming Police Station in the Jinzhou District. Gao bound her hands with handcuffs to the iron bars of a window, leaving her toes barely touching the ground. He harnessed her neck with a wire which was tied to the back of a bench and then he ripped off her clothes. Gao and Tong sat on chairs on each side of the bench. Facing each other, they put their legs on the bench so as to pull her neck downward with the wire and make it so that Ms. Xu couldn't raise her head. They were holding an electric baton, and Liu was responsible for taking notes. Gao started shocking her face and asked, "Will you still practice?" She replied, "There is nothing wrong with practicing cultivation. What you are doing is a crime." They didn't listen at all. Gao said, "No measure is too excessive to deal with Falun Gong practitioners. They can't bring any lawsuits against us."

The police then went into a rage and barbarically beat her. They shocked her face repeatedly. Blisters covered her face and the smell of burnt flesh filled the room. She suffered so much pain that she could hardly breathe. Gao asked her where she got the fliers and posters they found in her home. Gao threatened her, "I have tamed a man who was as big as 225 lbs. I don't believe I cannot tame you. The electric baton has over 10,000 volts. How's that? Will you tell me or not?" They continued hitting her head and shocking the sensitive body parts such as the face, neck, underarms, and hands, etc. She cried out in pain.

The Jinzhou Building is located just downstairs. A lot of people were walking in and out. Policeman Liu feared that Ms. Xu's screams would be heard by people on the street. He thus forced a bar of soap wrapped in fabric into her mouth. Gao continued to shock her. Because of the unbearable pain, she bit the soap into pieces. Even seeing her suffer this way, Gao didn't want to stop. She was completely disfigured after the torture. She became so weak and her heartbeat accelerated. Afraid she might die, Gao finally unfastened the handcuffs which had already cut deeply into her flesh. Her hands turned purple, swelled, were numb and deformed, and were covered with blisters. She couldn't raise her arms.

After torturing her for five hours, they again locked her up and threw her into the detention center. She couldn't rest her arms against her body because of the painful blisters. There were blisters and dried blood all over her body. She suffered from left shoulder dislocation, and couldn't move her right arm. The back of her neck was swollen. She was severely traumatized by the persecution. Her vision was damaged. Her left hand became disabled and was covered with scars. Her neck is still recovering. She was kept in the detention center for two and a half months before she was released.
