Ms. Li Xiaoyan is Currently Detained in Shandong Province No. 1 Women's Forced Labor Camp and Showing Signs of Critical Illness

August 18, 2007 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Xiaoyan from Suizhong County, Huludao City in Liaoning Province was illegally detained in Division One of the No. 1 Women's Forced Labor Camp in Shandong Province. Her family members recently learned that she is showing signs of critical illness. They went to visit her, and after much negotiation, one family member managed to see Li Xiaoyan for ten minutes. They are worried about her current state of health.

On July 12, 2007, a family member received a letter written by Ms. Li on July 2. In the letter, she mentioned that she was showing signs of critical illness. After being examined at the clinic, they concluded that her kidneys were malfunctioning, she was having heart problems, and was generally weak. After receiving the letter, a dozen of her friends and relatives went to Jinan City on July 13. On the morning of July 14, at 9:00 a.m., they went to the Shandong No. 1 Women's Forced Labor Camp, but the guard refused to let them in because there were too many of them. After much negotiation, they managed to get into the visiting room. The guards in charge of visiting said that there were too many people and refused to let them visit. The relatives said that they had come a long way and that it was not easy for them to travel, especially with a six-month-old baby. Li Xiaoyan's third sister was then allowed to visit Ms. Li after much negotiation. The rest of the visitors were told to wait outside the labor camp. During the process, the third sister's little baby kept crying because of hunger, so the woman had no choice but to leave and breastfeed the baby. She then went in again to wait. After waiting until 11:30 in the morning, she still did not get to see Li Xiaoyan. The reason given was that the chief was busy.

On the second day at around 3:30 in the afternoon, the family members and relatives went once again to the labor camp. The guard at the door told them that his superiors told him that Li Xiaoyan's relatives were not allowed in. Li Xiaoyan's two sisters were worried about their sister's health, so they were determined to visit her. They refused to go home without seeing her. Many guards and a few plainclothes guards positioned themselves inside and outside the camp as though they were dealing with enemies.

During the negotiation process, the relatives asked the guards, "You refuse to let us see our sister. Is it because you persecuted her so badly that her health has deteriorated and she is not in a proper state to see us?" The guards denied it. One guard in charge of Li Xiaoyan's case said, "If anything happens to a person, we are responsible for compensation." The relatives retorted, "How could you compensate for my sister's life with your money?" The guard did not reply.

Li Xiaoyan's sister gave a letter written by Sun Qunli, the chief of Division One, to the guards. Five to six guards read the letter then and there before they allowed the second sister to see Ms. Li for ten minutes.

Li Xiaoyan was weak all over and she looked very pale. Her relatives said that her responses were slow and her thoughts were not as agile as before, but they don't know the reason why. During the ten-minute visit, she was not allowed to speak a word. It is unknown how or to what extent she has been tortured. The guards raised Li Xiaoyan's arm to show her sister and said, "Take a good look. Your sister is not injured." However, the visit was conducted between soundproof glass and her lower body could not be seen. Li Xiaoyan's current state of health is indeed very worrying.

We appeal for righteous people to take note of this incident.
