More Than 40 Falun Gong Practitioners Severely Abused at the Jiutai Forced Labor Camp in Jilin Province (Photos)

October 21, 2007 |

(Clearwisdom.net) The Jiutai Forced Labor Camp in Jilin Province is located near Lianhua Village, Yinmahe County in Jiutai City. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents are severely persecuting about 40 detained Falun Gong practitioners at this labor camp.

Practitioner Teng Shijun is enduring severe physical abuse and mental torment in the First Division right now. His situation is critical. He was forced to sit on a small bench while tied up for 24 hours a day. In addition, guards beat him savagely with sticks and punched and kicked him.

This labor camp is notorious and a key target for investigation by the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in China . The total number of people detained at this labor camp numbers less than 200, including about 60 juveniles and people undergoing drug rehabilitation. On the other hand, the camp has more than 200 guards and staff members. The authorities also enlist some inmates to help them. The guards are extremely vicious when carrying out the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Those practitioners who refuse to write the "five statements" to give up Falun Gong are subjected to all kinds of torture and abuse. For example, they use two to four people to watch one practitioner, forbid the practitioners to rest 24 hours a day, and hang the practitioners up by their handcuffs.

One practitioner died in 2002 as a result of the persecution. Some local residents told us that a practitioner was beaten to death within a few hours of arriving at the registration office.

In the past several years, many practitioners have been killed in this place, and many were tortured to the point of injury or disability. Some practitioners contracted pulmonary tuberculosis due to the persecution. The guards used inmates to persecute the practitioners. They carried out torture of the practitioners, including forcing them to sit on a tiny bench around the clock or hold a water battle on top of the head, stripping off their clothes and opening the windows in the winter, and forcing them to sit on a sharp corner of a piece of metal. The guards also punched and kicked practitioners at their whim. The practitioners were given only one steamed bun per day as their food.

The practitioners went on hunger strikes to protest the persecution. Some of them gave in and wrote the "Five Statements," but many of them retracted those statements later on. The guards required those practitioners who had given up Dafa to write monthly reports of their thoughts. If they defied this order, they would be subjected to torture and severe abuse again. The practitioners in the First Division who were subjected to this type of abuse included Qu Guangwen, Yu Wenzhong, Jing Youlai and Ji Yuejun and others.

The practitioners were forced to do heavy manual labor during the day and compelled to attend brainwashing sessions in the evenings. Those who refused were tortured.

The First Division is assigned to manufacture hollow concrete bricks, which is an extremely heavy physical task. The practitioners were not allowed to rest on the weekends or given breaks during the day. Guard Zhang Guohui said that taking time off for even one day is forbidden for any reason, including illness.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Teng Shijun, 38, from Tumen City in Jilin Province, was sentenced to three years of forced labor in August 2005. In late August of 2007, he was placed under strict control and subjected to even harsher persecution. Inmates Wang Mingli, Wu Lijun and others in a strictly controlled room surrounded and monitored him. The room was located at the west end of the hallway, and it was used as a study room during the day for inmates Li Chunbo, Tia Fuxiang and newcomers. On the morning of August 22, 2007, while on his way to the restroom, practitioner Teng Shijun saw Cheng Shiguo, who was the guard on duty. Mr. Teng walked up to him and reported that inmates Wang Mingli and Wu Lijun had assaulted him. Cheng Shiguo did not respond to the complaint. Wang Mingli said, "The government gives us permission to beat you. There is nothing you can do!" In the past, practitioners Jin Youlai, Yu Wenzhong, Jiang Yuejun and others have suffered severe beatings from Wang Mingli, Gu Haijiang and other inmates.

During the 2007 Chinese New Year, Wang Mingli and Cui Zhenyu pushed practitioner Zhang Chunxiao onto a stretching bed to torture him and to try to make him give up Falun Gong. When the torture didn't work, they tried to entice him with small rewards, which also failed.

The living standards of Falun Gong practitioners are far below those of the inmates. Their rights to receive visitors are denied at the guards' whim. The quality of their food is extremely poor, including being given spoiled food.

These incidents are only a glimpse into the terrible persecution taking place at the Jiutai Forced Labor Camp. All incoming and outgoing mail by the practitioners are illegally examined, so it is difficult to get news about the persecution out to the rest of the world. We hope that everyone will help to bring an end to this persecution as soon as possible.
