A Crisis of Morality: My Thoughts After Seeing an Account of the Staged "Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation" in an Elementary School Textbook (Photos)

October 21, 2007 |   By Ouyang Fei

(Clearwisdom.net) In September, just several days after the new school semester began, my 6th-grade nephew returned from school in a panic. He said to his mother that they should hurry up and persuade his grandma (on his mother's side) from practicing Falun Gong. The family members felt puzzled as to why he would say that. Questioning him, they discovered an article in one of his textbooks that specifically defames Falun Gong.

Students are taught to follow their teachers' words. When the teacher said something bad about Falun Gong, my nephew became frightened. This triggered a reaction in him to hurry up to stop his grandma from practicing Falun Gong. His mother explained things to him for quite a while. She reminded him of the improvements in his grandma's health, which he had seen for himself, after she started to practice Falun Gong. She also asked him to think about what could be wrong for a person to believe in "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance." It took a long time before she could make him understand.

The staged "Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation" in an elementary school textbook

My family member told me of this incident on the phone. I asked her to check her child's textbooks. She checked and found an entry about the staged "Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation" in one of the last sections of the first unit in the sixth graders' Morality and Society textbook (Volume 1), which is a part of the new Compulsory Education Curriculum Standard Test Textbooks.

As a matter of fact, I have known for a long time that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has put information slandering Falun Gong into elementary school textbooks. I came to know this through the Sixth-Year Elementary School Textbook Moral Education (Volume 10), which was a part of the Nine-Year Compulsory Education texts. The sixth unit of the textbook contains an article full of false information, lying to the students about the staged self-immolation Incident. The contents in the two textbooks about this event are somewhat different. In the previous one, the article was similar to a news report. In the current one, the article's authors made better use of the children's fragile psychological make-up and adopted a fairy tale format. They exploited the affection between a mother and a daughter to incite hatred. This current textbook article is even more provocative and deceptive.

I know that the CCP has never left innocent children alone. It always utilizes various opportunities to incite hatred in children's minds. It is only when I learned that one of my own dear ones was among the children who had been deceived, that it hit home for me.

Among the numerous lies that Jiang Zemin and his gang have fabricated to slander Falun Gong, the staged Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation is the one that is most poisonous to the minds of the Chinese people. At the same time, it is also the one that allows people to see most clearly and effectively the nature of the CCP's fabrication. The replay of the Self-immolation video in slow motion clearly and unequivocally indicated that Liu Chunling died on the scene from a policeman's heavy blow to her head. Regarding Wang Jindong's sitting meditation posture, although Wang appeared blackish from burns, the gasoline-filled plastic bottle between his legs was still intact. How did the photographer arrive at the scene so promptly? "Liu Siying," who claimed to be heavily wounded from the burning, was tightly wrapped, which is against common medical practice following burn injuries. Doubts also exist regarding her death; while in hospital, "her condition had always been good," but how come she "suddenly died?" There are many other doubts. All these have demonstrated that Jiang's gang had staged the Self-Immolation Incident to frame Falun Gong.

This widely-exposed, completely flawed, monstrous act of deception has been put into elementary school textbooks for several years, as a part of the children's "morality education." This fabrication is exploited by the CCP to force the children to consider theism as superstition and ignorance, and thus accept the Party's atheistic views.

What atheism has brought China - "What foods can people safely consume?"

The news media in China uses the phrase "ambushed from all sides by food" to describe the safety of food in China. "When people buy or eat food, they feel very worried about whether the food contains Sudan Red [a carcinogenic dye] or Clenbuterol [a substance that is harmful to humans. If used in pig feed, which is banned, it can increase the production of lean pork in pigs]." It is true that all ordinary citizens in China share this worry. In a 2007 investigative report issued by China's Consumer Association, consumers listed "faked and inferior consumer products" as the No. 1 complaint.

"Adding clothing detergent into Youtiao [a kind of long fried dough]," "using Sudan Red to make 'red-centered' duck eggs," "extracting edible oil from sewage," "feeding contraception drugs to Chinese yellow eels and crabs for rapid weight gain," "illegally buying and reselling the drugs and medicines that have been sold for huge profits," "the severe case of using starch to make fake contraception pills," "confiscating 500 tons of fake salt," "cardboard-filled steamed buns with stuffing," "man-made eggs,"... these exposed incidents constitute only a minute corner of a mammoth mountain of fakery, but each and every one of them is astonishing.

Zheng Xiaoyu is the former chief lead investigator into the fake infant formula scandal in Fuyang City. He was also the former director of China's State Food and Drug Administration. In a response to a reporter's question in May 2004, "...whether he feels worried when he eats food," he said frankly, "Now there are some people saying, 'You see that in a while, something goes wrong with the ham, and in another while, something goes wrong with the dried fluffy meat, and then some time later, the Chinese chives have problems.' They do not know what is safe to eat. I am also a common citizen. So from this point of view, I share this worry."

The irony is that this very chief who was responsible for the health and safety of 1.3 billion Chinese people was given a death sentence for accepting bribes and for dereliction of duty. The Zheng Xiaoyu case has further exposed the poor quality of China's consumer products.

The book What Kind of God: A Survey of the Current Safety of China's Food, authored by Zhou Qing, which won the 2006 Lettre Ulysses Award for the Art of Reportage, has listed numerous incidents of fake food products. The Chinese word He (meaning "what") in the title reflects how rampant the fake, inferior, and toxic food products are in China's current society, and how helpless the people there feel.

Why numerous attempts to stop the making of counterfeit and inferior products fail

There have been many rounds of government-led movements, attempting to tackle the issue of fake products. While the government has tried every year to stop production of counterfeit products, such products have become more and more widespread. Government officials and scholars have looked into the issue of why numerous attempts to stop the making of counterfeit and inferior products fail. Yet, these experts and scholars have overlooked one most important aspect in their attempts - this issue of morality!

The greatest cause for the downslide of people's morals is atheism under the Chinese Communist regime. The persecution of Falun Gong is a last-ditch effort by the CCP and Jiang Zemin's gang to perpetuate atheism. The staged Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation, which the CCP has used to sustain the persecution of Falun Gong and to incite hatred, embodies all the evils of the CCP. The CCP's having put the self-immolation farce into the elementary textbooks is a brazen act; the CCP attempts to use it to brainwash the children and instill its doctrine of atheism into their minds.

When morals are corrupt, there are no miracle drugs that will work. How could those who manufacture, trade, and sell toxic food products not know that their products can hurt and even kill people? Of course they know! But why can they always find the "moral assurances" to justify their acts? This is because the criteria for judging morality have become so corrupt that there is even no bottom line existing. The whole of society has become corrupt; ordinary citizens learn from the officials, and the low-ranking officials learn from the high-ranking officials. Making fabrications and doing things against Heaven has become a widespread phenomenon. Under this situation, every one can find the excuse for his or her acts of deceit. In the past, if someone was berated and accused as having "lack of virtue" or "having no good conscience," one would feel that he or she had been severely humiliated. But in the current mainland China, the person who has been thus accused would justify their actions with, "Lack of virtue? How much does virtue cost?!" "Good conscience? Can good conscience earn me a meal?"

As the social morality was rapidly declining under the CCP's rule, Falun Gong appeared. "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance" has provided the last opportunity for the people in China to rebuild their morality. But what is sad is that the CCP and Jiang's gang, out of their selfish motives, have worked together and launched the persecution of Falun Gong. The persecution of "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance" has killed the last chance of rebuilding the declining morality. People have all felt that since 1999, the morality in China has declined very badly, while 1999 was also the year in which the CCP and Jiang's gang started the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners who believe in "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance." How could this be a coincidence?

What the book, What Kind of God: A Survey of the Current Safety of China's Food has told us was about the counterfeit, inferior and toxic food products in terms of physical matter. The persecution of Falun Gong represents how the CCP makes poisonous spiritual food and then instill them into people's minds. The counterfeit and inferior products that we see in people's lives are just the direct reflection of the current level of deceit and moral bankruptcy so rampant today.

Without the elimination of the CCP and bringing to an end the persecution of Falun Gong, without the restoration of righteous belief, without removing the cancer that is the CCP in people's minds, how could people ever truly eradicate the counterfeit and inferior products so prevalent in daily life?

Appendix One: The Faked Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation

There are a number of discrepancies and questionable issues surrounding the self-immolation event and the CCP's reporting of it. Several are outlined below.

Replaying the CCTV's self-immolation video in slow motion revealed that Liu Chunling was killed from being struck on her head. Note object in the red circle, the instrument used to strike Liu Chunling.

Questionable issues about Wang Jindong, one of the self-immolators: The plastic Sprite bottle, full of gasoline, between Wang's legs was still intact after the self-immolation.

Comparison of the three photos of "Wang Jindong" seem to show three different people.

Wounded areas of burned patients should be exposed to air, and attending nursing personnel should wear hygienic clothes and wear masks to avoid infection of the wounds

In the CCTV's video about the "Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation," the entire body of the "burned patient" was tightly wrapped, while the reporter did not wear hygienic clothes or wear a mask during her bold interview

Appendix Two: A partial list of counterfeit and inferior food products in China

Addition of laundry detergent into Youtiao (a kind of long fried dough) can reduce the amount of flour and also make the fried product plump and appealing; in this way, it can be sold at a good price.

Injecting water into pork, beef, watermelons, and tomatoes allows the water to be sold at the price of meat or vegetables

With the addition of Clenbuterol into pig feed, the pigs grow fast and produce more lean meat.

Injection of Atropine into sheep before slaughtering can make the resulting meat appear fresh and bright.

Mixing sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate into inferior rice flour that is made from moldy rice allows one to produce white "superior" rice flour.

Mixing cheap talcum powder or white stone powder into flour can not only increase the weight but also make the flour look good and sell well.

It is simple, convenient and profitable to mix industry-purpose alcohol with water and then sell the mixture as a drinking alcohol.

After polishing moldy rice and then coating it with a layer of industry-purpose (inedible) oil, one can sell the rice at a good price despite its toxicity.

The profitability of dying moldy millet and corn flour is similar to that of making toxic rice.

Soaking peaches and apricots in human urine can make the fruit weigh heavy and look nice, so the soaked products can naturally be sold at good prices.

Smoking tremella with sulfur dioxide (SO2) can make it whiter; who cares it is toxic as long as it can be sold at a good price.

Using black ink and some other types of materials to make black fungus become even more black and heavier, so one can sell it well and make a good profit.

Applying a chemical to enlarge kiwi fruit can make the fruit become bigger and sell at twice the price.

Feeding contraception drugs into Chinese yellow eel makes it grow faster.

By mixing cow blood, laundry detergent, and MSG, one can make fresh and delicate "duck blood," which is then sold to restaurants.

By using some chemical additives, one can turn inferior tea leaves into "top-quality" tea, to sell at ten times its value.

Smearing a lotion for human breast enlargement on chicken legs can make the legs become plump, tender, and enticing.

Big fishes, after being stuffed with tiny smelly fishes, appear even bigger and also heavier.

Extracting oil from sewage to make cooking oil is extremely cheap and very profitable.
