Looking Inward Whenever a Conflict Emerges

October 09, 2006 |

(Clearwisdom.net)

A new colleague came to work for our company. He is very smart and a quick learner, and I was very happy. I soon found out his shortcomings. He prefers to do what he likes, and he avoids or procrastinates on those tasks that he does not like. When he does that I have to take on more tasks. I began complaining to our supervisor. I didn't want to report him to our boss, of course.

I regretted what I did each time I made a complaint. I am a practitioner, so I should cultivate my mouth and not complain. One day after complaining, I asked myself why I felt that it was so unfair. Master taught us:

"Everything that happens to you is a test to see whether you can regard yourself as a cultivator, find your own wrongdoing and mistakes, and conduct yourself as a cultivator. Remember these words of mine: No matter what trouble you encounter, no matter what makes you feel unpleasant inside, and no matter whether on the surface you’re right or wrong, if you are to truly regard yourself as a cultivator you should always examine yourself for causes. Ask yourself whether you have a wrong, hard-to-detect motive that’s related to the problem." (Lecture at the First Conference in North America)

I tried hard to exclude the unhealthy mentality and looked within myself to try to find problems regarding my xinxing. I was shocked to find out that it was I who liked to pick and choose tasks. I loved to do those tasks which seemed important and require a lot of thinking and didn’t like those tasks which seemed simple and physical. It was when my colleague picked and chose like me and affected my welfare that I felt that it was so unfair.

Master taught us in Zhuan Falun, Lecture Four:

"One volunteer director at a city’s Dafa instruction center went to a factory to see how Falun Dafa practitioners were doing with their practice. The factory manager came out to meet him in person: ‘Since studying Falun Dafa, these workers have been coming to work early and going home late. They work very diligently and will do any assignment the boss gives. They also no longer compete for personal gain.’"

I realized that to not pick and choose at work is the basic requirement of a Dafa practitioner. After understanding this I became more willing to do the work that my colleague does not care to do, and my uneasy feelings vanished into thin air. I thanked my colleague deep down in my heart for making me understand this simple truth.

I had the same mentality when I did Fa-rectification. When I saw other practitioners do what I thought were extraordinary tasks, I felt that was terrific. I hoped that I would be the one to do those tasks. I felt that what I did were all trivial things, such as solving a computer problem and setting up tools to clarify the truth. They seemed trivial, but what is important is the xinxing, not technology. If I do not have a pure heart when doing what I am supposed to do, and instead just muddle through, you can imagine the results.

I wrote this article in order to be more aware of my shortcomings. I wish to have a pure heart to carry on the tasks to clarify the truth.
