Curing the Sick, or Killing the Innocent? -- A Report of the Brutal Torment of Falun Gong Practitioners at Chongqing City's Maojiashan Women's Labor Camp (Photo)

July 17, 2004 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Since July 22, 1999, Chongqing City's Maojiashan Women's Labor Camp has become a dark den for persecuting female Falun Gong practitioners. The police and drug addict convicts are very cruel in their means of persecution, taking everything to the extreme. The torture methods known as "applying ointment" and "administering medicine" have become specific means of persecuting and killing Falun Dafa practitioners.

The sanitation in this so-called civilized labor camp is very poor. There are bedbugs, fleas, lice, mosquitoes and flies everywhere. The perpetrators lock Falun Gong practitioners inside dark cells for long periods of time. Practitioners are frequently beaten, handcuffed and thrown into dark, damp confinement. Many Dafa practitioners who were beaten developed ulcers on their bodies, or developed skin diseases or hives from mosquito bites. On April 25, 2001, China Central Television's (CCTV) "Focus" (Jiao Dian Fang Tan) program reported a false story of about a Shanghai Falun Gong practitioner who refused treatment and died of scabies. The police in the labor camp unscrupulously persecuted Dafa practitioners under the guise of "humanitarian treatment" by means of "curing illness," "applying ointment," and "administering medicine."

Any Falun Gong practitioner found scratching, or who had red bumps or skin ulcers would be branded by the police as having eczema and would have eczema ointment (sulfur paste) forcefully applied on them. The police instigated drug addict convicts to forcefully apply the paste to Falun Gong practitioners in very barbaric ways. All Falun Gong practitioners who had the paste put on them developed swelling over their whole body, the area with ulcers would swell up, the small sores became large sores, and the sores that were healing became worse and even festered.

Many Falun Gong practitioners have refused to cooperate with the perpetrators and refused the "ointment treatment." Police officer Yang Ming from the labor camp then instigated drug addict convicts to carry out more cruel torture. They ordered six or seven drug addict convicts to tackle one Falun Gong practitioner. This was done either inside the cell or they would drag practitioners out onto the field. The practitioners' clothes were completely stripped off, and the practitioners were pressed against the ground by the drug addict convicts who would then forcefully apply the sulfur paste to the practitioners. Many sores on the practitioners' body were already festering. The gloves used by the perpetrators became covered with pus and soiled with blood. They didn't change the gloves, but continued using them on the next practitioner. After the ointment application, the practitioners who steadily resisted this abuse were hung up by their handcuffs. The practitioners' bodies were covered with dirt and it was difficult to distinguish between the ointment, pus and blood. Many Falun Gong practitioners' bodies developed infected sores as a result of the imprisonment and this type of brutal persecution.

"Administering medicine" was another sinister way to persecute Dafa practitioners. Police officer Yang Ming formed a "medicine feeding group," which included drug addict convicts Xie Giuping, He Xiaoping, Liu Chengling, Nie Juan, Sheng Ling, Wang Suxiao, and others. They ordered about seven convicts to press practitioners' bodies against the ground using their knees. First they beat the practitioners, and if that didn't work, they would choke them, pinch their nose closed, and use bamboo and wooden sticks to pry open their teeth. Then, they would force the medicine inside their mouth, or directly puncture their throat with a syringe to force in the medicine.

Wang Jiqin died as a result of persecution at Maojiashan Women's Labor Camp

Under the pretense of "curing illness," police officer Yang Ming ordered convicts on multiple occasions to force-feed unknown medicines to Falun Gong practitioners. Dafa practitioner Wang Jiqin went into shock after being force-fed many times. One time, a doctor directed the forced feeding at the labor camp. Wang Jiqin passed out immediately. To shirk their responsibility, the labor camp sent Wang Jiqin home. At home, Wang Jiqin continued to vomit blood. She had hematuresis, inflammation of the chest, asthmatic coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, stomachache, swelling below the chest, weak extremities, and insomnia. On September 23, 2002, Wang Jiqin passed away at the age of 29 after suffering these traumatic injuries.

Falun Gong practitioner Long Gang was also barbarically force-fed, which led to lung perforation. As she was dying, police said that she had pneumonia and put her in a dark room with no windows and no air circulation. She slept on the ground for a long time, and was force-fed in this condition. Afraid of taking responsibility for the possible death of Ms. Long, the labor camp let Long Gang's family take her home. Four months later, Long Gang died at home.

Doctors at the labor camp sometimes prescribed drugs with contraindication effects to Falun Gong practitioners as a way to torment them physically. Zhou Chengyu died from an infection when they applied ointment on her, causing her stomach to swell. Chongqing City's Labor Reeducation Bureau covered up her death by telling other Falun Gong practitioners that Zhou Chengyu had died of cancer.

Police officer Yang Ming also instigated drug addict convicts to beat Dafa practitioner Qiu Cuixiang. Large sores developed on her body because she was often handcuffed with her hands behind her, causing the shackles to rub against her lower back and hip. To fulfill her goal of "transforming" practitioners, police officer Yang Ming insisted that the large sores on Qiu Cuixiang's body were scabies, and that it was contagious. She ordered drug addict convicts to strip Qiu Cuixiang naked, and they pressed her against the ground and applied the "sulfur paste ointment" to her body. After application of the ointment, she was suspended in the air by handcuffs. Afterwards, Ms. Qiu was also force-fed by the perpetrators. They used water to dilute the medicine and injected the solution into Ms. Qiu's throat with a syringe, causing the ulcers to worsen. On April 25, 2002, the labor camp let Yang Ming take Qiu Cuixiang to the Dermatology Department at Chongqing First Hospital for treatment. After examining the wounds, the dermatologist said that the damage was due to the prolonged rubbing of the handcuffs against her skin. Yet, Yang Ming continued to use sulfur paste and to inject medicine into Qiu Cuixiang. It seemed that torturing and killing Qiu Cuixiang was the only way Yang Ming would be satisfied. Ms. Qiu's whole body deteriorated and turned a dark color, she became emaciated and extremely weak. However, Yang Ming did not stop the persecution, but continued to force Ms. Qiu to stand, and beat her while she was handcuffed.

The above accounts are only a small part of the labor camp's abuse of Falun Dafa practitioners under the guise of "humanitarian care." Yet, these stories are enough to testify to the cruelty of the Maojiashan Women's Labor Camp's criminal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners under the instigation of Jiang and his followers.
