Dafa Practitioner Mr. Zheng Fuxiang from Yushu City, Jilin Province Dies as a Result of Torture Suffered in Changchun City's Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp

May 10, 2004 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioner Mr. Zheng Fuxiang, 35 years old, lived in Sanxing Village, Qingshan Township, Yushu City, Jilin Province. In order to expose Jiang and his followers' lies, Zheng Fuxiang and his wife Deng Lijuan went to Beijing twice to appeal for Dafa. Mr. Zheng Fuxiang was imprisoned and tortured for four years. He passed away on April 7, 2004.

After Zheng Fuxiang went to Beijing to appeal for the first time, officers from Yushu City's Police Department detained him for over two months. After Mr. Zhen's second appeal, he was illegally sentenced to one year of forced labor, and was detained at the Weizigou Forced Labor Camp, the Fenjin Forced Labor Camp and the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun, where he suffered all kinds of physical and mental torture. His sentence was extended by five months because he persisted in his belief.

Mr. Zheng Fuxiang's body was covered with scabies when he was released. He was not recovered from the torture even six months later.

In March 2002, Dafa practitioners in Changchun tapped into the cable TV network and broadcast programs clarifying the truth about Dafa. Immediately afterwards, the police started a frenzied wave of arrests. Zhang Dezhi, head of the Qingshan Township Police Station, led a group of police officers and broke into Zheng Fuxiang's home without a warrant. They smashed the windows and entered his home, and viciously beat him and his wife. They struck Zheng Fuxiang's head, chest, stomach and back until he collapsed to the floor. They took him to the Qingshan Township Police Station, forced him into a metal chair and beat him again. The police also fabricated some "evidence" and sent Zheng Fuxiang to the Yushu City Police Department. Shi Hailin, a member of Yushu City Police Department and National Security Bureau, shocked Zheng Fuxiang with electric batons, and beat and kicked him. They detained him for "disturbing the social order."

Mr. Zheng Fuxiang held a hunger strike during detention to protest the persecution, and the guards force-fed him. They inserted a finger-thick rubber tube into his stomach through his nose and fed him concentrated saline solution. After half a month of detention, Zheng Fuxiang was transferred to Yushu City Detention Center. He was sentenced to three years of forced labor and detained in the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun.

Upon arrival at Group One, Education Division Five in the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp, Zheng Fuxiang was surrounded by six or seven inmates, and they asked if he would continue to practice Falun Gong. Zheng Fuxiang said he would, and the inmates beat him. They struck his head, knees, and back with a metal pipe. As a result of the beating, Zheng Fuxiang couldn't move and was gasping for air. The guards and inmates claimed that he was faking an illness, so they proceeded to shock him with electric batons.

After the beating, the inmates stripped Zheng Fuxiang naked to search for Dafa literature, took him to the shower room and poured basins upon basins of cold water on him. The inmates would ask him, "Do you still practice Falun Gong? You should change your mind to avoid suffering." Zheng Fuxiang answered that he would still practice, and the inmates continued to beat him and pour cold water on him. After the beating, the inmates opened the windows and left Zheng Fuxiang shivering in the icy wind. They didn't allow him to wear any clothes until more than one hour later. They threatened, "If you practice, we'll beat you everyday."

After returning to his cell, Zheng Fuxiang was forced to squat facing the wall, with his hands holding his head and his knees closed. The inmates also forced him to sit on a plastic stool and watch Dafa-slandering videos. After several days in Division Five, Zheng Fuxiang was transferred to Division Six. Upon arrival he heard Dafa practitioners screaming in pain from the beating. The guards at Division Six beat him with police batons; punched and kicked various parts of his body and stripped him naked; whipped his body with belts until his skin was lacerated and deep muscle tissue was exposed. Then they rubbed salt into the fresh wounds, which caused excruciating pain. They also tortured him with a method called "Tying the Ropes."(1) Additionally, they forced him to sit on the cement ground to be tortured at will.

Zheng Fuxiang sustained severe internal injuries from the torture. He was coughing constantly and extremely weak. Despite his condition, he was made to do hard labor, which caused his condition to deteriorate, and he came down with a high fever. In June 2003, Zheng Fuxiang was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was quarantined. The labor camp authorities ordered his family to pay for his medical treatment. His family pleaded for medical parole for Zheng Fuxiang, but the labor camp authorities denied their request.

Zheng Fuxiang had to spend another ten months in the labor camp, during which time he began to vomit thick blood. The labor camp officials were afraid of taking responsibility for their abuse, so on April 6, 2004, they told Zheng Fuxiang's family to take him home. Mr. Zheng Fuxiang passed away at 4:00 a.m. on April 7, 2004.

Prior to his death, Mr. Zheng Fuxiang was constantly vomiting blood. On the day he passed away, Zhang Dezhi, head of Qingshan Township Police Station, went to his home to monitor his family and attempted to arrest Zheng Fuxiang's wife Deng Lijuan, as well as other Dafa practitioners who had previously left home to avoid persecution. Deng Lijuan was denied the chance to see her husband for the last time before he passed away.

The perpetrators at Qingshan Township Police Station in Yushu City, Yushu City Police Department National Security Division and the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp are responsible for the savage torture of Zheng Fuxiang, as is Zhang Dezhi, head of Qingshan Township Police Station.

(1) "Tying the Ropes": The police tie up the practitioner with a thin rope, circle the rope around his neck and tie his hands behind his back. Then the police would use all the force they could muster to tighten the rope. The rope becomes tighter and tighter around the body of the practitioner, and makes it more and more difficult for him to breathe. The pain is so intense that the practitioner sometimes loses control of his bladder. There are instances when the rope was tightened enough to break a practitioner's arm.
