(Clearwisdom.net) After going through two years of legal procedures, the case of Les Presses Chinoises, one of the lawsuits that Canadian Falun Gong practitioners filed to end the slander and hate-incitement by means of law, will reach a verdict by the Supreme Court of Quebec, Canada, after lawyers for both sides make legal arguments from February 23 to 25, 2004.
Recently, some practitioners in Toronto conducted a serious discussion regarding the lawsuit in Montreal, and found shortcomings in our cultivation practice as follows:
Among the plaintiffs, Toronto practitioners account for the majority. However, many Toronto practitioners subconsciously treat this lawsuit as the responsibility of Montreal practitioners. We all understand this principle: In Fa-rectification, his matter is my matter. Not to mention, many of us have been involved in the lawsuit. If we do not bother to worry a little more about Fa-rectification related matters, especially matters that affect large areas, isn't this a large loophole?
Throughout the process of the lawsuit, as to whether we should focus on clarifying the truth or achieving the result, many practitioners know the answer and explain it clearly, but cannot do the same in their minds. As it manifests, they do not have much motivation in clarifying the truth to the public using this lawsuit. Some practitioners realized that although they might be one of the plaintiffs, they did nothing specific to clarify the truth in this regard. Of course, practitioners presented very well in court and sent forth righteous thoughts, and the vast majority acted consciously.
Every practitioner that has realized their responsibility in Fa-rectification is now participating in many projects, and every one of them is under pressure from many sources. On the surface, being too busy causes some practitioners to send forth righteous thoughts only at specific times, and perhaps some even forget it at those specific times. In some practitioners' minds, this lawsuit is a low priority. Deep down, aren't these signs of "selfishness"?
In the beginning practitioners did well, and even gave outstanding performances before the court, exposing the evil and clarifying the truth well within a certain scope. Every practitioner felt that the field in the courtroom was very righteous, and our lawyer did very well too; even the judge showed an understanding of the truth. Therefore, perhaps many practitioners subconsciously were confident of victory and thought that they didn't need to worry too much about it. Without noticing it, we have put our hope in the judge, who is an everyday person.
As everyone knows, we understand from the Fa that every day is left for Dafa practitioners, and everything that happens today in ordinary society is the result of Dafa disciples' thoughts. We've learned hard lessons in the past years. While the lawsuit in Montreal is still proceeding, what is our state of mind? And what will that state of mind determine?
A practitioner went to a Toronto police station to clarify the truth regarding a bad thing done by the Chinese Consulate in Toronto. The result at that time was very good. He was quite satisfied and waited for things to happen after he came back. But nothing happened for quite a long time. When he went to the police station again, the police officials' attitude turned significantly to the other side. He was shocked. He realized from the Fa that the kindness of everyday people or the justice and sympathy they had shown after we clarified the truth to them were all their behaviors, which absolutely are not something Dafa practitioners should rely on. If our state of mind involves waiting for everyday people to do something for us instead of actively putting ourselves into action, isn't it an omission that gives the evil a reason to turn everyday people bad?
Today's lawsuit in Montreal is similar. For the judge to stand on the side of justice is the best choice he can make as a being. But no matter what we do, according to our understandings from the Fa Teacher taught us, it is the process that is important, not the result. Our fundamental goal is to clarify the truth and save sentient beings. If we thought the judge would do this or that, we are relying on everyday people, and this may be the fundamental attachment we have yet to eliminate. From the Fa, we understand that the evil's fabrication of articles allegedly written by Master is caused by our fundamental attachment, and in the lawsuit, if we focus on the result and neglect clarifying the truth, neglect our improvement in the process of clarifying the truth, neglect the bad effect of our human notions of relying on everyday people, and neglect the evil's seizing every opportunity to do evil, haven't we created another opportunity for the evil?
The practitioner I mentioned earlier, along with several other practitioners, had learned a lesson from not being satisfied and stopping at the positive change in the police after initially clarifying the truth. After doing so a second time, he continued clarifying the truth to them after he came back, and sent over more truth-clarifying materials. He turned the tables and made the bad things done by some of Jiang's followers in the Chinese consulate into a golden opportunity to clarify the truth to every part of society.
Teacher said, "As I've said, everything that happens today in the ordinary society is the result of Dafa disciples' thoughts. Even though the old forces do exist, if you don't have those thoughts they can't do anything. When your righteous thoughts are strong enough the old forces can't do a thing. If someone in ordinary society really did restore our Dafa's name, think about it, maybe human beings will do this, but have you thought about this: how high would I have to position that person? Isn't that right? You're cultivators, and all changes come from your cultivation and the Fa-rectification; everything that you yourselves validate and enlighten to, and everything that you'll receive, all this comes from what you have done on your path. Absolutely don't think about any favors the old forces might do for us, or about how the ordinary society might help us. You are the ones saving the ordinary people's society, and you are the ones saving sentient beings!"("Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia, U.S.A.")
"Since you're Dafa disciples, you shouldn't put your hopes in so-called "natural" changes, external changes, changes in the ordinary society, or in some favors that someone might do for us. You are Gods, and you are the future rulers of different cosmoses, so who would you count on? All the beings are counting on you!"("Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia, U.S.A.")
Our righteous thoughts are extremely important. Let's understand the Fa from the Fa, and get rid of human notions. Our fundamental goal is to clarify the truth and save sentient beings.
Let's treasure every minute and second in the last moments of Fa-rectification, and keep Teacher's words firmly in mind, "Validate the Fa with rationality, clarify the truth with wisdom, spread the Fa and save people with mercy--this is establishing the mighty virtue of an Enlightened Being."(Rationality).
