(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Wu Junyang from Benxi City, Liaoning Province tragically died at the young age of 30. In 1999, he was sentenced to two years in a labor camp because he practiced Falun Dafa. After he was released from the labor camp, Mr. Wu was forced to become destitute and homeless for three years in order to avoid being illegally arrested at home. However, he was again arrested on September 16, 2004 by staff from the Benxi City Police Station and detained in a detention center.
On November 16, 2004, his family suddenly received a notice from the police, telling them that Mr. Wu was sick in the City Central Hospital. Police officers from the Qianjin Substation and the Benxi City Station requested that his family members sign his release papers but they refused since they had not seen him yet. The police told them that they would not be allowed to see him until they signed the papers. Since the family members were very eager to see him, they yielded to the pressure and signed the document. They then were allowed to see Wu Junyang lying on a hospital bench, although he did not appear to have received any treatment. The police quickly made their escape. Both of Mr. Wu's eyes were seeping blood. He weakly told his family that he had been beaten by police and wanted to go home. After they got Mr. Wu home, he completely lost his eyesight, then he lost consciousness and became incontinent. His family found bruises all over his body, and saw that his urine had turned purple. Since the family was too poor to take him for medical treatment, Wu Junyang died on November 27, 2004, at 1 a.m.
(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Nan Chuyan and his wife have two daughters and a son. They are from Wanggang County of Xishui City in Hubei Province. They began practicing Falun Dafa in 1997. Since applying the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in every area of their lives, all their illnesses disappeared and the family has become known as having a high moral character. The whole family enjoyed peace and contentment, until Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin launched the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999. Mr. Nan Chuyan was arrested and sent to a forced labor camp for one year because he adhered to his beliefs and appealed to the government for the right to practice Falun Gong. The brutal torture and beatings he endured in the camp led to his death a month after his release in November of 2002.
Mr. Nan Chuyan's youngest daughter, Ms. Nan Xifen was sentenced to six years in prison because she told others that Falun Gong is good. She is still being persecuted in a prison somewhere in Sichuan Province. Mr. Nan Chuyan's son, Nan Xiaoqin, was arrested and sentenced to an eight-year prison term for telling people that Falun Dafa is good. Nan Xaioqin suffered all kinds of torture in the detention center. The torture has caused him to develop high blood pressure, heart disease and cerebral arthrosclerosis and his life is in danger. A family that was once happy and blessed has been torn apart by the persecution.
Mr. Nan's wife and his elder daughter went to the legal departments numerous times requesting the release of the son, Nan Xiaoqin, who was on the verge of death. The response of the authorities was only lies, curses and sneers. In October of 2004, Nan Xiaoqin's mother went to see Huang Haijun, the deputy director of the Xishui County Police Bureau. He is in charge of the local persecution of Falun Gong. She tried to reason with him and begged for the release of her son. Huang Haijun glared at Nan Xiaoqin's mother fiercely, and even choked her with his hands while cursing at her and pushing her out of the door.
Since she could not make an appeal or reason with them, the mother hung a board around her neck with the word "Reason!" She then went to the streets in search of justice through people's support and sympathy, to save her son from death. She went to the front door of the county government on October 11 and cried out her story. At about 11:00 a.m., two police vehicles pulled up and a group of policemen surrounded her. They attacked her and stuffed her mouth with dirty socks to muffle her cries. Then, they pushed her down, dragged her into the police vehicle and took her to jail. Nan Xiaoqing's elder sister was also arrested and detained.

On January 30, 2001, CCTV broadcast the Tiananmen self-immolation incident. That night, more than 200 male prison guards, headed by the deputy director of Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, Shi Yingbai, and brigade leader Zhang Buo, descended on the five sections of the camp where Falun Gong practitioners were illegally detained (each section containing about twenty Falun Gong practitioners who refused to give up the practice). They took all the practitioners to the corridor while beating and cursing at them. Some practitioners were thrown out into the corridor by a group of three guards, one grasping the hair and the other two holding the practitioner's thighs. The sound generated by electric batons, the prison guards' cursing and threats, and the sound of brutal beating, all mixed together. The prison guards tried to force Falun Gong practitioners to confess to fabricated charges. Over ten Falun Gong practitioners were put into confinement cells. The guards stopped only when all the confinement cells were filled up. One confinement cell is 2.5 meters long and 1.3 meters wide (8.2 ft. x 4.3 ft.), and each cell can hold two to three people.
The prison guards launched another round of comprehensive persecution against Falun Gong practitioners on May 24, 2001 after they were given the order from Director Lu Zhenshan. Female Falun Gong practitioners detained in Brigade Twelve were put into groups, with each group containing 9 people. They were taken to the males' brigade to be beaten, threatened, and tortured. Practitioner Xie Jinxian, who is still detained in Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, was beaten unconscious. The prison guards poured water on her to wake her up, and then beat her again. Li Xiaoyan was hung up by handcuffs until her eyes became glazed over. It took a while for her breathing to return to normal after she was taken down and thrown onto a bed. Cao Xiudi was beaten to the point of being disabled, as the muscles on the area of her right thigh were damaged. Guo Hongru, Zhang Hong, Tan Guizhen, Li Lan, Lin Xiuru, and Liu Guixiang were dragged to the confinement cells. The head of Section Nine, along with another male prison guard, handcuffed Liu Guixiang to a metal chair designed for torture, and beat and kicked her. Liu Guixiang's nose began bleeding profusely. Several other Falun Gong practitioners were beaten and kicked by these guards.
On May 27, prison guard Liu Chungang ordered Li Lan to sit on the floor in the center of the confinement cell, but Li Lan refused to do so. Then Liu Chungang began to punch Li Chunlan in the face. Nobody knew how many times he struck her. He was so exhausted he couldn't breathe normally. Then he tied Li Lan with a rope and threw her down on the concrete outside of the confinement cell, saying, "We'll see how I am going to punish you after a while." After he came back from running errands outside, he handcuffed Li Lan to a metal chair and shackled her feet. Her feet, legs, and body could not move. Sometimes her hands were handcuffed in front, and sometimes they were handcuffed behind her back. Later, Liu hung up Li Lan from the door of the confinement cell.
On May 28, prison guard Li Min tied Li Lan with a rope and hung her up, cramming an extremely filthy rag into Ms. Li's mouth. Prison guard Liu Lun shocked Li Lan on the neck, lips, and hands with an electric baton. Then he took Li Lan to another cell and allowed guard Li Min, who was drinking alcohol, to tie her and hang her up again. There were deep depressions on Li Lan's body and arms from being tied too tightly. Her body and arms soon turned purple and she lost consciousness. In the end, prison guard Li Min pushed Li Lan into the metal chair and handcuffed her hands behind her back. The handcuffs were so tight that they cut into her flesh. Someone suggested loosening them a bit. Li Min, however, said, "I think this is good." Guards Li Min and Liu Chungang often tied, hung up, beat, and cursed at Falun Gong practitioners in this manner. Li Min even grabbed big moths and put them into practitioner Lu Guixiang's mouth, laughing loudly. Prison guard Da Liangzi beat and cursed practitioner Tan Guizhen and intimidated her to a state of mental collapse. He even said, "Who is the law? I am the law."
Falun Gong practitioners were detained in small and dark confinement cells. There, they seemed to have been separated from the world. The male prison guards intimidated, beat, and cursed them, forced them to sit in a metal chair, or hung them up. They were forced to sleep on the floor and were often denied the use of blankets. Suffering both mentally and physically, life was almost unbearable. Some Falun Gong practitioners also lost large amounts of weight due to the torture.
In the midst of the brutal persecution, Falun Gong practitioners Wang Wenlian, Li Lan, and Lin Xiuru held a hunger strike and requested their unconditional release. Prison guards Guan Jie, Li Changjie, Zhou Muqi, Jia Cuiyan, along with some male prisoners then dragged them out of the confinement cells and held them in the metal chairs, some grasping their hair, some grasping their arms, and some holding their legs. About five prison guards conducted the force-feeding. Sometimes it was difficult for them to put the feeding tubes into the practitioners' nose as their nasal passages were so swollen from being force fed. Then they inserted a tube with a steel tip into their nose. When they pulled out the tube, the steel tip would bruise the nasal passages and cause bleeding. Such force-feeding tortures were carried out twice a day, every day. Falun Gong practitioners were force-fed corn porridge with a lot salt in it. Everyone was force-fed twenty large tubes of this mixture. The prison guards intentionally force-fed more than was necessary. With their stomach too full, practitioners began to vomit, as the porridge was extremely salty. Their stomachs were uncomfortable due to the excess of food. To intensify their discomfort, the prison guards stripped off the practitioners' cotton-padded jackets and shoes and opened the windows to expose them to the cold.
From mid-October to the beginning of January, Falun Gong practitioner Lin Xiuru, Li Lan, and Lu Shiping were forced to sit in the metal chairs for two and a half months just because they practiced Falun Gong. At night, they were sometimes released from the chairs after 10:00 p.m., and sometimes they were not released at all. At the beginning of November, Lin Xiuru, Li Lan, Zhou Lei (Zhou Lei is still detained in Wanjia Forced Labor Camp), Hu Aiyun, and Lu Shiping were all forced to sit in metal chairs in the big cell outside the confinement cells. Prison guards Zhou Muqi (female) and Jia Cuiyan (female) tied the practitioners' hands behind their backs and stuffed dirty underpants and socks into their mouths, so as to prevent them from talking and speaking the truth. Li Lan was suffocated to the point of tears flowing from her eyes. Lin Xiuru was almost suffocated to death as her neck was bent backward. The prison guards then used wide tape to cover the practitioners' mouths, circling their heads several times.
At the end of October, the weather was already very cold. Prison guards Zhou Muqi and Jia Cuiyan often stripped off practitioners' coats and shoes, either throwing them away or hiding them while practitioners Lin Xiuru, Li Lan, Hu Aiyun, and Lu Shiping were forced to sit in the metal chairs. They opened all the widows and placed these Falun Gong practitioners either near the windows or at the door where the wind blew in, exposing them to the cold weather day and night. Sometimes it was so cold that the practitioners felt that they were about to die from exposure. Zhou Muqi and Jia Cuiyan once placed a metal chair in an iron cage in the confinement cell and then squeezed Lin Xiuru onto the chair (the iron cage was about 1.5 meters high, 1.3 meters long, and 0.5 meters wide. -- 4.9 ft. by 4.3 ft. by 1.6 ft.). They decided to put Li Lan in another iron cage. Since they could not unlock the cage, they tied up Li Lan with a rope and then forced her into the chair. Zhou Muqi was as strong as a man, and she often used the back of her hand to hit the faces of Falun Gong practitioners. When the bones on the back of her hands hit a practitioner's face, it would immediately cause their nose and mouth to bleed. Zhou sometimes closed the windows and the doors, and beat Falun Gong practitioners using both her fists with full force. Practitioners were beaten to the point of dizziness. Prison guards Wang Zhonghua, Zhang Li, and Hu often verbally abused Falun Gong practitioners.
At the beginning of December, one practitioner did the sitting meditation on the floor of the confinement cell. Zhou Muqi maliciously grasped her hair, pulling her up and then pushing her down. She dragged the practitioner by the hair to the outside area. When she was half-way outside, Zhou intentionally loosened her hand. As a result, the practitioner's head hit on the floor with a bang. All people present were scared by the loud banging sound. Zhou Muqi's hands were full of hair and there was hair left on the floor as well. Prison guards Zhou Muqi, Jia Cuiyan, Li Yulan, Hou Damei, and Hu often denied Falun Gong practitioners use of the restroom, causing them a lot of pain as a result of having to suppress the need to relieve themselves. Some practitioners often had to relieve themselves in their pants. Since they sat in the iron chairs for so long, their buttocks were bruised, which caused intolerable pain. Their legs were so swollen every day that they looked like wooden sticks, stiff and unable to bend. Their feet were so swollen that they looked like huge steamed buns and they could not put on their shoes. The skin on their feet was stretched so thin that it looked transparent, and their hands could not form fists because they were so swollen as a result of being handcuffed. Sometimes their hands were numb and sometimes they could not move them properly.
There was one Falun Gong practitioner who was forcibly detained in the confinement cell like this for over eight months, and was only allowed out for two days. During this period, her family members were not allowed to visit. She was not allowed to buy any food, and she only had a bath once in eight months. The food there was of low quality and she was not given enough. Because of such a long period of being verbally abused, intimidated, physically punished, and tortured, this Falun Gong practitioner developed symptoms of severe hypertension and heart disease. She could not stand up for more than five minutes after she was freed from the confinement cell, and she felt that her heart could not endure it any longer. Sometimes, she had such a severe headache that she felt as if her head was going to explode. She often felt dizzy and her whole body was swollen.
At the end of July 2002, under orders of director Lu Zhenshan, Brigade Twelve was completely supervised by male guards. The female guards cooperated with them. They began to viciously beat Falun Gong practitioners and punish them by forcing them to squat or to "Ride an Airplane" (1) whenever they felt like it. At the end of September, they tried to force Falun Gong practitioners to write the "Three Statements." If they refused to write, the practitioner would be dragged to another small cell, hung up, and shocked with electric batons, or sent to the concentration training section for even more severe persecution. At that time, there were about 40 guards coming in and out, most of them holding big electric batons in their hands. One could hear the sound generated by the electric batons day and night. Some practitioners' faces were beaten to the state of being distorted. Some practitioners were beaten to the point of being unable to walk. Some had wound caused by the electric batons, that ulcerated and festered.
When practitioners were dragged to the small cells that were low and dark, where the floor was scattered with hair, and the air was filled with the prison guards' cursing and intimidation, their lives were truly a living hell. The former deputy head of Section Five, Xue Hongbo, (male) and Chen Guodong handcuffed Falun Gong practitioners' hands behind their backs and hung them up (the rope was tied through the middle of the handcuffs). They then shocked the practitioners with electric batons on the head, neck, face, lips, and the bottoms of their feet. They sat down to continue shocking the practitioners after they became tired from doing it while standing. Then they left and came back again after about twenty minutes, finally releasing the practitioner. The prison guards held the practitioner's arms and shook them with full force. The practitioner felt intense pain as if the arms were being pulled off. Then they hung them up and shocked the practitioner again, and released the practitioner after a while. Then they shook their arms again and hung them up again. After they repeated this cycle over and over, they moved the practitioner to another cell and repeated the cycle yet again.
When subjected to the electrical shocks, a practitioner's heart jumped violently. The electric current went through the whole body, causing the practitioner's whole body to twitch. The areas shocked were extremely painful. Li Xiaofei, the head of Section Five, beat Falun Gong practitioners on the mouth maliciously while holding their hair. Bitter shouting could be from other small cells too. Falun Gong practitioner Song Ruixiang was drenched with water and shocked again and again for a period of over 70 hours.
On April 9, 2003, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Bao Liyun's hands were handcuffed to the upper levels of two sets of bunk beds by prison guards Zhao Ruqing and Yao Fuchang. Then Yao Fuchang ordered four prisoners to push the beds in opposite directions. This stretched Bao Liyun's body. After Ms. Bao shouted in pain, her whole body began to shake and her mouth opened wide because of the excruciating pain. Then Yao Fuchang ordered people to cover her mouth with wide tape. They repeatedly moved the beds to stretch Bao Liyun. Later, grinning fiendishly, Yao Fuchang sat there and asked her, "Is Falun Dafa still good?"
According to rules set up by prison guard Zhao Ruqing, every day after getting up at 5 a.m., Falun Gong practitioners were forced to sit on small plastic stools with their hands placed on their knees and their feet placed together. They were not allowed to move except for mealtime and for using the restroom. In December 2003, over ten Falun Gong practitioners were forced to squat until 9:00 p.m., after sitting on the stools from the morning until 6:00 p.m. Guard Yang Guohong monitored the practitioners' squatting. Both feet had to be inside a tile (30 x 30 cm. -- 11.8 in. square) on the floor and could not be beyond the tile. The heels had to be together and the head could not be lowered. The body could not move. Some practitioners could not squat and they could not touch their heels to the ground. As a result, their toes had to support the whole body. They felt much pain, numbness, and agony in their feet, legs, hips, backs, and neck. The prison guards often forced Falun Gong practitioners to squat like this. Some were even forced to squat as long as 19 hours, and the longest was three days. Yao Fuchang would pick up a big electric baton to shock the practitioner or use the "Big Hang Up" (2) method if a practitioner could not endure such squatting or if the posture was not maintained correctly.
The concentrated training section fabricated words slandering the founder of Falun Gong and forced Falun Gong practitioners to recite the words and to declare giving up Falun Gong practice. Almost all practitioners were violently tortured by Zhao Yuqing, Wu Hongxun, and Yao Fuchang for refusing to recite the words. The following are several examples:
At the beginning of November, Yao Fuchang dragged Song Yingjie out by her hair when she refused to recite the words. Two hours later, Song Yingjie's entire face was full of bruises, and was swollen and distorted. Her lips alone were swollen to 5 cm. (2 in.) thick. The injured areas that were shocked by electric batons seeped a yellow fluid, which looked horrific. While holding Song Yingjie's hair, Yao Fuchang said to us, "Do you see her? Who dares not to recite! This is the result. And this is just a light case." The degree of cruelty and violence was astonishing. Later, they dared not look at Song Yingjie. In order not to let others see their crimes, Zhao Yuqing and Yao Fuchang forced Song Yingjie to sit in the corner of the cell and did not allow her to go out of the cell. Falun Gong practitioner Jiang Lianying was violently beaten to the point that her nose was blue and her face was swollen, just because she shouted out, "Falun Dafa is good." Then she was forced to sit in the metal chair. On June 23, 2004, section head Li was on duty. At about 9:00 p.m., he said to some prisoners, "Hurry up and drag Jiang Lianying to the small cell. The authorities are here to inspect our work." This was what they usually did to cover up their crimes. When they abused Falun Gong practitioners, they said that they acted according to the official documents. Sometimes they even said, "So we treated you unfairly. But who dares to interfere with us?"
Falun Gong practitioner Zhang was discovered reading one of Master Li's articles. Zhao Yuqing and Yao Fuchang took her to the small cell, hung her up and shocked her with electric batons. She was then deprived of sleep for 22 days, and tortured in order to make her disclose the source of the article. Ms. Zhang's face and neck were full of injuries, adding new injuries to the old that still had not healed, and she was on the brink of losing consciousness.
Zhao Yuqing recklessly brutalized Falun Gong practitioners with verbal abuse, vicious beatings, tortures, extended detention, and extorting money. Nonetheless this person was rewarded for "excellence in work."
Whenever there were new Falun Gong practitioners sent into the forced labor camp, we often heard their bitter cries as a result of being hung up and shocked by Wu Hongxun (section head), Zhao Yuqing, and Yao Fuchang. Deputy section head Yang Guohong (female) read the prison regulations to Falun Gong practitioners. It said, "Prison guards are not allowed to beat, curse, and punish detainees." One Falun Gong practitioner asked, "How come you curse, beat, and torture us?" Yang answered in an intimidating tone, "There are numerous laws. Other laws stipulate that we are allowed to punish you." Yang Guohong treated Falun Gong practitioners like enemies, seeking opportunities every day to torture them both mentally and physically.
All Falun Gong practitioners, regardless of age, have been forced to work since March 2004. If they cannot finish an assigned task, their terms are lengthened or they are physically punished and inhumanly devastated both mentally and physically. The reform through forced labor system says that detainees can be given wages according to levels of production. However, each Falun Gong practitioner was given only 0.8 yuan to 1.00 yuan after they were forced to work for a month.
Section heads Wu Hongxun and Zhao Yuqing often took Falun Gong practitioners in groups to the concentrated training sessions for further persecution. Wu Baoyun, supervisor of the concentrated sessions, is Wu Hongxun's sister-in-law. She is extremely cruel and vicious to Falun Gong practitioners, often cursing, beating and kicking, pulling their hair, and torturing them. She handcuffed a Falun Gong practitioner to the end of a bed, making the practitioner unable to either squat or stand up. The practitioner was so in so much pain that she continuously sweat and shivered. Some Falun Gong practitioners could not endure such persecution and said words against their will. They often wept secretly because of this.
This is just the tip of the iceberg regarding Wanjia Forced Labor Camp's persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners.
The following are reenactments of some of the torture methods used in the forced labor camp.

Detailed description of the torture methods:
http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/11/2/54103.html
Notes:
(1) Riding an Airplane - In this torture, the head is bent down until it cannot go down any further, while the hands are pulled up and held up to the highest point. The hips have to point up. One is forced to keep this position unchanged for a long time. The body in this position looks like the shape of an airplane, which is what this torture is named after.
(2) Big Hang Up - There are two forms of this torture: 1) With both hands handcuffed behind the back and only the toes touching the ground, one is hung by a rope that is tied to a metal window frame; 2) One hand of a practitioner is handcuffed to one bunk bed and the other hand to another bed, and the two beds are pulled in opposite directions. Both methods are extremely painful tortures.
(Clearwisdom.net) The parents of Ms. Deng Caijuan, a Falun Dafa practitioner from Foshan City, filed a lawsuit against the Sanshui Labor Camp in Foshan City, Guangdong Province, because of the brutal treatment of their daughter. They requested an investigation to find and punish the responsible offices and personnel.
Ms. Deng Caijuan, a 33-year old practitioner, is a courageous, caring, kindhearted and generous person. Late on the evening of April 8, 2004, Li Wenhui, a captain at the "610 Office" in Foshan City, Assistant Captain Zheng Biao, and over ten other policemen abducted Ms. Deng from her residence. They claimed that she had committed treason. At the same time, they also arrested another practitioner, Ms. Cai Caiying. Ms. Deng is detained in the Sanshui Labor Camp without visitation rights.
According to a report about police brutality in the Sanshui Labor Camp published by Minghui.org (the Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net), one of the guards, nicknamed "Big Mole," induced an imprisoned drug addict to punch and kick practitioner Ms. Han Zhimin until she was covered in bruises. They also forced urine down her throat. Then the guard urged the drug user to publicly tie up Ms. Deng Caijuan and to beat her, which resulted in cuts, wounds and bruises all over her body.
Our sources report that Ms. Deng was unlawfully sentenced to the labor camp in July 2000 because she persisted in practicing Falun Dafa. In November 2002, she was tormented continuously for over 20 days and nights. However, Ms. Deng continued to refuse to yield to the authorities' demands that she renounce Falun Dafa, which stunned her tormentors.
Ms. Zhou Xuefei, who was detained in the same labor camp, recalls that, "Ms. Deng was deprived of sleep for over 20 days. In November 2002, the camp illegally set up a torture room to interrogate the steadfast Falun Gong practitioners. They tortured practitioners without consideration for the consequences. In private, the drug rehabilitation officer who monitored Ms. Deng praised her strength of conviction. Some of the general education staff told me: 'Some tortures, which were impossible to bear for even half an hour, let alone a few days, for the rest of the prisoners, were commonly used on Falun Gong practitioners. After spending time with people like you, I also want to practice Falun Gong. You are truly very good people.' "
We hope that people around the world will show their concern for the abused practitioners who are illegally detained in Sanshui Labor Reform Camp.
The following is the complete legal document submitted by Ms. Deng Caijuan's parents.
Plaintiffs: Mr. Deng Liang, male, 67 years old, ethnicity: Han;
Ms. Zhong Yuexia, female, 66 years old.
Address: 17 Xinfeng Road, Heyuan City.
Telephone: 0762-3883900;
The defendant: Sanshui Labor Reform Camp, Foshan City Guangdong Province
Requests:
Severe punishment of the defendant for the illegal criminal acts against Ms. Deng Caijuan;
Order the defendant to abide by the law and allow family visitation rights;
Order the defendant to immediately cease the cruel, despicable and otherwise illegal criminal maneuvers.
Facts:
My daughter, Ms. Deng Caijuan, a resident of Foshan City was sentenced and sent to the Sanshui Labor Reform Camp in 2000 for persisting in her Falun Dafa practice. The defendant pressured my daughter to give up her beliefs in "Truth-Compassion-Forbearance" and forced her to write a "Dissociation Statement," "Repentance Statement," and "Guarantee Statement." When she refused to do so, they took extraordinarily disgraceful and despicable measures. They induced two imprisoned drug addicts to strip her of all her clothes, to hang her from above with her hands tied behind the back and stuffed soiled tissue paper in her mouth. After she passed out several times, they poured cold water on her to wake her up. This treatment continued for over one week.
In addition to the torture described, the guards also beat her, deprived her of sleep, forced her to remain in fixed, painful positions for prolonged periods of time, shocked her with electric batons, denied her the right to visit the toilet, and so on.
Basis of the Lawsuit:
The defendant's disgraceful and despicable actions violate the following laws:
1. Crime of Humiliation
Constitution [Article 38]
The personal dignity of citizens of the People's Republic of China is inviolable. Insult, libel, false charge or frame-up directed against citizens by any means is prohibited.
Criminal Law of People's Republic of China [Article 246]
Those openly insulting others using force or other methods or those fabricating stories to slander others, if the case is serious, are to be sentenced to maximally three years in prison, put under criminal detention or surveillance, or deprived of their political rights.
Those committing the crimes mentioned above are to be investigated only if they are sued, with the exception of cases that seriously undermine social order or the state's interests.
Law Safeguarding Women's Rights and Interests of the People's Republic of China [Article2]
Women enjoy the same rights as men in political, economic, cultural, social and family settings.
The state protects women's special rights and interests granted by the law to gradually perfect a social protection system for women.
Discriminating, abusing or injuring women is prohibited.
2. Crime of abusing inmates
Criminal Law of People's Republic of China [Article 248]
Supervisory and management personnel of prisons, detention centers, and other guard houses who beat or physically abuse their inmates, if the case is serious, are to be sentenced to maximally three years in prison or put under criminal detention. If the case is especially serious, they are to be sentenced to three to 10 years in prison.
Those causing injuries, physical disablement, or death, are to be convicted and severely punished according to article 234 and 232 of this law.
Supervisory and management personnel who order inmates to beat or physically abuse other inmates are to be punished according to stipulations in the above paragraph.
To sum up, the defendant seriously violated my daughter's legal rights and broke the law. Since my daughter is still locked up in the Sanshui Labor Reform Camp and our visitation rights were denied, we fear that they will intensify her abuse. We sincerely ask that the Procuratorate Court, the Administration of Justice, Labor Reeducation Office, Public Security Office, Public Security Agency, and all related Agencies to immediately investigate this matter and reprimand the defendants for their criminal action. Please inform us your conclusion of the investigation.
Regards.

(Clearwisdom.net) Cheng Peiming, a Falun Dafa practitioner, was jailed in the Sixth Prison Section of Daqing Prison, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. Because he refused to renounce Falun Dafa, for the past month he has been shut in a small cell and repeatedly beaten by prisoners. Mr. Cheng was also hung up by his hands from the ceiling in the small cell.
On November 9, 2004, Cheng Peiming's seventy-year-old mother, who had not seen her son for five years, made a special trip of about 1,300 miles to see her son. The prison director refused to let her see him. Under the adamant request of the mother, Cheng Peiming was allowed to see his mother for less than a minute. Before the son and mother even had a chance to talk, the police dragged Cheng Peiming away and returned him to the small cell.
In the afternoon on November 16, 2004, the handcuffs used to hang Mr. Cheng broke, and he fell to the floor. At this point, Mr. Cheng could bear the abuse and suffering no longer and in desperation and to protest the persecution, as soon as he stood up, he knocked his head against the glass cell door, resulting in a 4-cm-long laceration on his head. He then cut his wrists with the broken glass. He also tried to swallow a razor blade and an iron nail. He then lost consciousness and fell to the floor. [Editors' note: The teachings of Falun Gong forbid killing, including committing suicide and self-injury. Although in some cases people under severe torture will seek to end their life in an attempt to escape the mental and physical suffering, as Dafa disciples, we ought to clearly remember that we are practitioners at every moment. We must treasure our life and avoid thinking and behaving in an extreme and irrational manner. The fact that Mr. Chen felt driven to such behavior underscores the horror of this persecution.]
On November 17 at 4 p.m., Cheng Peiming underwent surgery. He is extremely weak.

(Clearwisdom.net) 65-year old Ms. Yang Jusheng was sent to the Baimalong Women's Labor Camp in May 2004 for her belief in Falun Dafa. Since then, she has endured various inhumane tortures. She was forced to stand for an extended period of time, which caused a serious prolapse of her rectum and she was not allowed to sleep for 13 days straight. In addition, the long-term physical punishment left both of her feet disabled, and now she can barely walk. The following is Yang Jusheng's account.
My name is Yang Jusheng and I'm 65 years old. I'm from Shuangfeng County, Hunan Province. I was abducted and taken to the Baimalong Women's Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province on May 10, 2004 simply because I practice Falun Dafa. On September 14, the labor camp officials put me in the "strictly-monitored" section in order to force me to give up my belief in Falun Dafa. I suffered severe tortures in there. That same day, they forced me to stand still from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the next morning. I was not allowed to move at all for 13 hours. Even a slight movement would lead to a severe beating by the guards on duty. The extended standing caused a prolapse of my rectum. Several inches of the rectum slipped out, and I bled a lot. Even so, the policemen didn't allow me to change clothes or take a shower.
At 8:00 o'clock the next morning, policeman Yuan Jia ordered me to squat down with my hands on my lap and my feet together. He forced me to squat in that position for six days straight. I was not allowed to stand up even when eating. This caused excruciating pain in the tendons of my feet. Whenever I moved my body slightly, they violently punched and kicked me. If I let out a groan due to the unbearable pain, the guard on duty, Wang Fang, would take off her socks and shove them into my mouth. The guards ruthlessly beat me. I couldn't hold my neck straight. Feeling sick and dizzy, I could not stay still. I often fell on my back or on my face. I don't remember how many times I fell down. They also didn't allow me to use the restroom. I just had to hold it. After a long time, I no longer had the urge to go to the restroom. My calves and feet were swollen, and I could not stand still.
They did not allow me to sleep for 13 days. I wasn't even allowed to blink my eyes. The long- term torture left both my feet crippled. The soles of my feet turned purple-red. The calluses on the soles of my feet started to peel off. My shins hurt a lot, and my legs were numb. I couldn't bend my right ankle, so I had to drag my right foot when I walked and I fell down and hit my head many times. My head was covered with bumps. It's been more than 40 days, and I have still not recovered. I still limp when I walk.
I call upon the human rights organizations and people of conscience to investigate what is happening in Baimalong Labor Camp; put the perpetrators on trial and help stop the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners.

Police in Miyun, Beijing incited criminal inmates to brutally beat practitioners who did not cooperate in having their fingerprints and photos taken. One practitioner was beaten and as a result her left eardrum was punctured. They seized her hair and hit her head against the wall several times and held her to the floor. They stripped her and beat her for nearly half an hour, leaving bruises and cuts all over her legs. (The following photo is a reenactment based on the practitioner's testimony.)

Police in Miyun, Beijing sexually harassed a young woman practitioner who did not reveal her name. The police raised up the practitioner's coat to cover her head and expose her upper body. Several policemen took turns fondling the practitioner's breasts and private part.
(Clearwisdom.net) For five years Jiang Zemin, along with Luo Gan and the rest of their faction, have been making up lies to perpetuate the persecution of Falun Gong. To accomplish these goals, fabricated stories are aired on television to deceive the general populace and cause hatred toward Falun Gong.
In 2002, a person from Jiansanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, was dying from colon cancer. One day a group of local officials in charge of persecuting Falun Gong brought reporters with a camera to this patient's home. They pressured the patient, saying, "Just say that practicing Falun Gong caused this terrible illness. If you say this, we'll give you 1,000 yuan to help to cure you." The patient's brother walked in at that moment and discovered what was happening. Shocked that his nation and its leaders, who are supposed to be just and noble, could do something like this, the patient's brother became very angry. He yelled at the officials and tried to take the camera and destroy it. Seeing that things were not working out the way they had expected, the officials left immediately. Had these officials accomplished what they had planned, many innocent people would have been poisoned by their lies.
Before putting a stop to this staged event, the patient's brother had suffered from lung cancer. He stood up for Falun Gong and stopped the government officials from making up more lies. Before long, his lung cancer had completely disappeared. Whenever he meets someone now, he tells them, "Falun Dafa is indeed good. It was Falun Gong that saved my life."
(Clearwisdom.net) I had the good fortune to learn about Falun Dafa in Daqing City, Helongjiang Province. I also got to know "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" and the facts of the staged "Self-Immolation Incident" at Tiananmen Square.
Today, in a morally degenerating world, the emergence of Falun Dafa is undoubtedly like a beacon for the lost and a rational guide for the confused. Yet, brutal forces led by Jiang have been conducting an inhuman persecution against compassionate Falun Dafa practitioners by condemning them and turning their appeals into arrests. It is ridiculous and astonishing that conducting oneself according to "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" is a crime.
Although I am not a Falun Dafa practitioner, I want to be a good person and I will use these principles advocated by Mr. Li Hongzhi as the guide for my conduct. I will also try my best to let more people truly understand Falun Gong. I hope that all Chinese people with an upright conscience will stand up and speak out for justice by exposing the ugly façade of Jiang's gang and revealing the truth and purity of Falun Gong to the world.
(Clearwisdom.net) On November 24, 2004, Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived at Gran Canaria Island, Spain for a state visit. Because the Chinese delegation was quite large, The Gran Canaria Police Department employed strict security measures.
Falun Gong practitioners in Gran Canaria learned about the news a day before the visit. They immediately informed each other through phone calls and planned to hold an appeal in front of the hotel where the Chinese delegation would stay the next day.
At 9 a.m., November 24, practitioners wearing yellow shirts imprinted with the words, "Falun Dafa" went to the hotel and unfurled banners with words in both English and Chinese -- "Falun Dafa," "Truthfulness -- Compassion -- Tolerance," and "Great Cultivation Way of Falun Dafa."
When the practitioners arrived at the hotel, a group of police officers were already there waiting for them. The police officers have already learned about Falun Dafa and the persecution facts in a number of previous activities. This time, they were extremely worried about the practitioners' safety. Upon seeing the practitioners, they immediately asked, "Did you know about the violent incident that occurred in Argentina? We will not allow such kinds of things to happen here!" The police let the practitioners stay in a designated spot close to the hotel. People in the hotel could clearly see the practitioners' banners and their peaceful appeal. Seven police officers stood behind the practitioners and protected them.
![]() |
A number of things happening during the appeal that are worth mentioning here. When the Chinese delegation noticed the Falun Gong practitioners' appeal, a group of Chinese people holding red and green Chinese flags stared fiercely at the practitioners. Two of them attempted to walk toward them. Three police officers blocked their way and prevented them from getting close. Shortly after, when a Chinese man attempted to approach the practitioners and take pictures of them, he was also blocked by the police. The police demanded in a stern voice that he stay away from the appeal site.
The Chinese agents parked a huge tour bus in front of the practitioners so as to block them from the view of the delegation. Upon seeing this, the practitioners tried to avoid being blocked by the bus. However, when they moved to the left, the bus also moved forward, when practitioners shifted to the right, the bus moved backwards in an attempt to block their peaceful appeal. Later, the police were really unable to tolerate this kind of "bus game," so they sandwiched the bus by parking two police vehicles, one in front and one behind the bus. Thus, the bus was unable to interfere with the practitioners' appeal.
An elderly gentleman who passed by the scene saw the whole episode and said, "What they are doing is really ridiculous. If there is nothing fishy in their hearts, why would they deliberately block you when they are clearly aware that you are here?"
Falun Gong practitioners felt that the day was very meaningful. They did not only hold an appeal during the visit of the Chinese delegation led by Chinese President Hu Jintao, but they also allowed more people to get the chance to learn about the facts of Falun Dafa. A local TV station interviewed practitioners and reported on their appeal. A local government official showed great interest in learning about Falun Dafa and the persecution in China. He asked practitioners many questions. During the entire activity, practitioners constantly sent forth righteous thoughts, demonstrated the Falun Gong exercises, handed out flyers and explained the facts to passers-by.
At 3 p.m., the Chinese delegation left the hotel. The practitioners also concluded their appeal. Before they left, they expressed their gratitude to the police officers. The police also thanked the practitioners for their serenity, friendliness and their peaceful behavior. They also said, "Your activity may make some Chinese government officials on the island feel unhappy, but don't worry, if you feel or experience any interference from them in any of your future activities, please immediately inform us. We will take any effective actions to help you."
(Clearwisdom.net) On November 29, 2004, several Falun Gong practitioners traveled to Middlesbrough to tell the people the truth of the persecution in China. Despite the chilly weather, the practitioners introduced Falun Gong and exposed the terrible crimes that have been committed against practitioners under the direct orders of former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin.
I arrived at a very cold and rainy Middlesbrough train station at around 10:45 in the morning. My first impression of Middlesbrough was that it was quite a rough place. There were many houses by the train station boarded up and graffiti was all over the place. I wondered what sort of reception Falun Gong would receive from the people here. This impression of the place was short-lived however, because as soon as I walked away from the train station and towards the center of Middlesbrough, the whole place changed. It became a very clean and quaint town with a hive of activities through the main street. There were numerous shops on both sides of the street, which was kept clean and had many flowers and benches. Above the main street were many colorful Christmas lights and the overall energy of the town was really pleasant.
In no time at all we found the area where the Falun Gong activity was to be held. It was on one of the main streets that led to the market, with many people walking by. As I arrived, I saw several practitioners hanging up a banner on the wall so I immediately went over to help. The banner had several pictures of reenactments of the tortures used by Chinese police on practitioners. Throughout the day many people were drawn to this banner and asked questions about it.
On either side of the banner were freestanding boards with information introducing Falun Gong and discussing the persecution. There was also a table with several petitions and some leaflets. There were two types of petitions: the first one was to help rescue practitioners' family members who are being persecuted in China for practicing Falun Gong. The second petition was calling for Jiang Zemin to be brought to justice in a court of law, charging him with genocide and crimes against humanity in his persecution of Falun Gong. Next to this table, practitioners performed the five Falun Gong exercises.
Without anyone organizing the efforts, practitioners picked up flyers and petition forms and went to speak to the people walking by. Other practitioners started performing the exercises so that people could see how peaceful and serene the practice is. I chose to man the table and talk to people who came to get a leaflet or sign the petition. About five minutes after we started, the rain stopped, the grey sky cleared and the sun came out!
I had many experiences of the kindness of the people of Middlesbrough. Many children came over to ask about Falun Gong was and showed a lot of curiosity. They would look at the pictures on the banner and ask why people are beaten so badly just for practicing these peaceful exercises. It was difficult to explain that one man's jealousy could cause such a devastating persecution. I told them that in July 1999, Jiang Zemin found out that there were millions of people in China practicing Falun Gong. I told them that there were more practitioners than Communist Party members (to which they usually gave a confused face since they didn't know what Communism was). I explained that because of his jealousy he banned Falun Gong and said that anyone who refused to give up Falun Gong was to be sentenced to forced labor, beaten and tortured. Jiang said that even if the practitioners died as a result of this persecution, it would just be reported that they committed suicide. After hearing this, people would sign the petition and even get their friends to sign as well.
One child came over and asked what we were doing. Before I could reply, a woman who was signing the petition turned around and said, "These people are really peaceful, really nice people, but they are getting beaten in China. If you don't want peaceful people to get beaten up you should sign this petition." There was a crowd around the table at that time and upon hearing this, most of the people signed the petition.
Later on in the day a very rough looking man came to the table. He had dirty hands and a dirty face with very scraggly clothes, but a heart of gold. He was unable to speak, but some of the kids knew him so they told him to come over and sign the petition. At first he was a bit reluctant but he took a leaflet and read it carefully. After reading the leaflet he went and read every poster, banner and board that we had, constantly pointing at the pictures of practitioners being persecuted. After that he came back to the table and studied closely everything on the table. We had a book on the table that described the persecution in detail and he must have read that for a good 5 minutes, also pointing at the pictures of the practitioners being persecuted. When there was nothing else to read he signed both petitions then stood for a long time watching the practitioners do the exercises. Although this man did not have much money or social status, he was still concerned about the persecuted practitioners in China and did what he could to help them. If anyone ever asks me what Middlesbrough is like, I will always remember the rough looking man who came to the table -- on the outskirts it may be a little run down but inside there is goodness and kindness.

People take truth-clarifying materials and sign petition against the persecution of Falun Gong
(Clearwisdom.net) According to a report from Epoch Times (a global Chinese newspaper) on December 2, 2004, Beijing TV Channel One was tapped into and broadcast Falun Gong truth-clarification video programs. Viewers in different areas reported seeing varying lengths of the video, from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. The International Herald Leader under the flag of Xinhua News Net claimed that Taiwan's Intelligence Agency secretly trained Falun Gong practitioners with the technology to tap into the TV signal. Officials from Taiwan's Department of Defense denounced the accusation as nonsense.
According to the Epoch Times report, around 8 p.m. on November 20, Beijing TV Channel One was intercepted. The newspaper's readers in Mainland China said that they first saw a program about animals and suddenly a program about Rome's tyrant Nero. The latter was a Falun Gong truth-clarification video program entitled, "Between Heaven and Earth." Viewers in different areas said the length of the video varied from 10 minutes to 30 minutes and the main content exposed the lies surrounding the staged Tiananmen Square self-immolation incident.
The International Herald Leader, under the flag of Xinhua News Net, accused Taiwan's Intelligence Agency for "training" Falun Gong practitioners and said the interception was done from Taiwan's mountainous region. The report also condemned Taiwan for not only allowing Falun Gong to be legally registered, but also providing facilities for its activities.
In response to the Mainland's official accusation, the Director of the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association, a Professor from the Department of Economics, National Taiwan University, Chang Ching-his, said the interception of the Mainland's TV satellite signal has nothing to do with the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association, but he did not exclude the possibility that it might have been done by some individual practitioners or supporters of Falun Gong. He stated that the accusation against Taiwan's Intelligence Agency for training Falun Gong practitioners is completely groundless.
Officials from Taiwan's Department of Defense also denounced as "nonsense" the accusation that Taiwan Intelligence Agency trained Falun Gong practitioners.
(Clearwisdom.net) The suffering of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xiong Wei in China's forced labor camp has aroused the German people's attention to the persecution experienced by Falun Gong practitioners in China. German media outlets successively reported on the persecution that is happening in China as well as the efforts of supporters outside of China in rescuing persecuted Falun Gong practitioners.
![]() Postcard designed by a warm-hearted person for the rescue of Ms. Xiong Wei |
According to a report from Boulevard Baden Times on October 31, a 34-year-old Chinese woman related her experience in China's forced labor camp: "During a two week "reeducation class," the reeducation assistants beat and kicked me."
The Karlsruhe Branch of the International Society for Human Rights continuously condemned China's human rights violations. In September, the group conducted an event to raise awareness of human rights issues. The event was a "Jog for Human Rights." This week in Karlsruhe, Ms. Xiong Wei recounted her personal experience.
Xiong Wei was a student in Berlin. Upon her return to China, she tirelessly distributed flyers and explained the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China until she was arrested and locked up in one of Beijing's "slave labor camps" in January of 2002.
This week, during a visit to Amnesty International, Ms. Xiong revealed that twenty women were held in a cell of fifteen square meters. "The daily agenda included beatings, humiliation and physical abuse."
Joschka Fischer, Germany's Foreign Minister, pleaded for her freedom during his visit to China. Ms. Xion'g main priority, since her release and return to Germany, is the continued clarification of the facts about China's human rights violations.
Heilbronner Stimme and Hohenloher Zeitung reported on November 2 that Ms. Xiong Wei was detained in a Chinese labor camp for two years. Following that, she was put under house arrest for several months. She was released only after protests from her many friends and supporters abroad. On Friday, she arrived in Öhringen to meet with friends who have helped her.
"I am very grateful that so many people have supported me. The protests from Germany had an especially good effect," said the thirty-three-year-old who was studying Economic Engineering in Berlin. Xiong Wei says, "In China, Falun Gong has turned into a grassroots movement and is regarded as a threat by the government." She was taken to a women's labor camp without trial, where she regularly suffered torture intended to "reeducate" her. Hearing about her arrest, her brother turned to the public with the help of the International Society for Human Rights (IGFM). They managed to collect more than 40,000 signatures, write support letters and inform the media about Xiong Wei's situation. They also informed the federal government about her plight. Thus, the Chancellor personally wrote a letter to the Chinese President pleading for Xiong Wei's release.
Öhringen resident Annett Munter went to Beijing to lodge a personal protest against the persecution of Falun Gong. On this trip, she became acquainted with Chinese police batons. Among friends at the welcome party she handed Ms. Xiong a picture she had painted on the occasion of her release. Xiong Wei says, "I would like to just lead a normal life but I certainly do not want to return to China for a while."

(Clearwisdom.net) Since November 2004, at Seoul's new busy area -- Gangnam Station, Falun Gong practitioners have been holding a live torture reenactment every Sunday to expose the Jiang faction's brutal persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in China.
One of the practitioners involved in the anti-torture demonstration, Ms. Xu Jiashu, who started practicing Falun Gong in October this year, has voluntarily participated in the live torture-reenactment since November 14 and has attracted the media's attention.
Ms. Xu Jiashu had suffered from hyperthyroidism and had taken medical treatments for two years. After practicing Falun Gong for only one week, her health has recovered and she was able to stop taking medicine. Later, a blood test by the hospital showed that her thyroxin level has returned to normal. She herself was also very surprised.

Now, Ms. Xu actively introduces Falun Gong to people around her and exposes the unjustified suppression of Falun Gong in China. In order to allow more people to learn about the facts, she voluntarily participates in anti-torture exhibitions and plays the role of a practitioner in China who suffers the ruthless torture simply because of her steadfast belief in Truth-Compassion-Tolerance.

Ms. Xu Jiashu is also a member of the "Committee for Rescuing Gao Chengnu" (Gao Chengnu, wife of a Korean man, is currently illegally imprisoned in China because of her practice of Falun Gong). She has collected many signatures from local citizens in support of the rescue of Gao Chengnu.
At present, a major signature drive calling for the rescue of Gao Chengnu is underway throughout Korea. In less than three months, more than 100,000 signatures have been collected. Various media outlets have also started paying attention to this activity.
(Clearwisdom.net) Between the cities of Hannover and Munster and next to the Teutoburger Forest in the north of Germany is the city of Bielefeld, famous for its textiles. People were busy Christmas shopping on the last Saturday in November but still found time to show their concern for the Falun Gong practitioners being persecuted in China. Lots of people passed our informational booth in the city center and took leaflets. After they had read through the leaflet carefully and found out more about the persecution, they came back to sign a petition to help stop the persecution in China.
This June, Falun Dafa practitioners entered the annual Bielefeld Festival Parade. The traditional Chinese dances and Falun Gong exercise demonstration were highly appreciated by the spectators and ten thousand leaflets were given out in three hours. On the 13th of November, practitioners from Bielefeld and other nearby cities went to the city center again to promote Falun Dafa and raise awareness about the persecution. Practitioners also used this opportunity to ask shopkeepers if Falun Gong leaflets may be displayed in the shops. Many shopkeepers were glad to display our leaflets.

(Clearwisdom.net)
Dear Honorable Premier Li Xianlong,
Greetings!
I was very shocked when I heard that the police in Singapore arrested two Falun Dafa practitioners on charges of unlawful assembly and distributing informational materials about the brutal persecution in China without a license. I understand that the practitioners have been brought to trial and face large fines and even up to a year in jail if they are convicted. As a Falun Dafa practitioner from China who has suffered greatly in the persecution, I am particularly concerned about this miscarriage of justice.
I'm 63 years old and living in Sydney, Australia. Since I had been persecuted by Jiang Zemin's regime for practicing Falun Dafa, I received asylum from the Australian Government.
Most of my career since I graduated from college has been spent doing scientific research in the Chinese Academy of Science. I am a research scientist at the same level as an associate professor. I have won the Second Award of Science and Technology for the Chinese Academy of Science three times. I am a professional and a citizen who abides by the law.
I developed arthritis, heart disease, and other illnesses over the course of my life. Long-term treatment didn't work for me. In 1993, I was fortunate enough to learn Falun Dafa, and so started to believe in "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance." Soon, all my illnesses were gone. I received great physical and mental benefits from practicing Falun Dafa. My family, friends and co-workers all saw the changes in my personality as well. These positive changes in me convinced my husband, daughter and two of my sisters to practice Falun Dafa as well. In China, Falun Dafa was spread through word of mouth in heart to heart conversations and the number of Falun Dafa practitioners exceeded seventy million. It could be seen that Falun Dafa was very welcome by the majority of the people.
Just because he felt there were too many Falun Dafa practitioners, Jiang Zemin started to persecute Falun Dafa. He was afraid of losing control. He used the propaganda machine as a tool to control the country, commanding the police and legal system to follow the policy to eradicate Falun Dafa. I didn't do anything illegal but because I would not give up practicing Falun Dafa, but I was arrested and detained six times and my home was ransacked three times.
On February 2, 2000, I went to visit another Falun Dafa practitioner at his home, and was arrested and sentenced to three years in prison. I was forced to share a bed with a murderer. I also suffered many cruel tortures like "Sleeping on a Dead Person's Bed" (1) and violent force-feeding. I was deprived of sleep and forced to do long hours of hard labor. As an older woman in my 60s, I had to live under the tight military administration, and it was even harder to bear the endless forced brainwashing that included watching videos slandering Falun Dafa and constantly being pressured to give up my belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance." During this time, my blood pressure rose again and my heart could not function normally. I felt dizzy and my eyesight was blurred. Three of my teeth have fallen out, all my hair turned white, and both my mind and body reached the breaking point. When I got out of prison, I could not even remember who my neighbors and co-workers were. My work unit stopped my retirement pension and so my only source of income was cut off. This painful experience was unbearable.
My husband is Li Baoqing. He is a research scientist at the same level as a professor in the Chinese Academy of Science, and he is also an advisor of Ph.D. students. He has won the Special Contribution Award of China. Just for practicing Falun Dafa, he was detained 4 times even though he was 67 years old. He was also kept in a brainwashing class to be persecuted. One of my younger sisters was also detained four times for not giving up the practice of Falun Dafa. During her detention she suffered the torture know as "Tying the Ropes" and was almost permanently disabled. My other younger sister was detained and interrogated. The police extorted 5,000 yuan from her. The persecution that my family suffered is typical of the experience of millions of Falun Dafa practitioners in China. For those who refuse to give up practicing Falun Dafa, none can escape persecution. In China, hundreds of thousands of Falun Dafa practitioners have been sent to forced labor camps, over 6,000 sentenced to jail time, several thousand sent to mental hospitals, over 1,100 were tortured to death while in police custody or under guard, and countless more were abducted, detained and sent to brainwashing centers. Could any upright government treat its people like this?
This attempt to eradicate Falun Gong has lasted for over 5 years. Because of the strict blockade of the media by Jiang's faction, the people and the governments in other countries of the world do not know much about the persecution. The mainstream media doesn't report on it very often and this makes the Jiang group act even more irrationally. So many Chinese Falun Dafa practitioners are still suffering from torture every minute; many are on the brink of death. How could the Falun Dafa practitioners outside of China not care? We do care.
We're cultivating "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance," and we're peaceful and rational in any situation. We use the money saved from our daily expenses to make truth-clarifying CDs and materials to distribute, with the hope of letting the governments and the people of all countries in the world know what is happening in China, and help us end the persecution. If the conspiracy to exterminate the Jews by the Nazis in Germany could have been exposed earlier, and all the governments in the world stepped forward to oppose it, then how much suffering and loss of life could have been avoided?
Now Falun Dafa has spread to over 60 countries and Jiang Zemin has been sued in multiple countries and will eventually be sent to the court of history. The upright conduct of Falun Dafa practitioners should also be supported by your government, as it will benefit your people.
We truly hope you can pay attention to this incident and seek an appropriate way to help resolve it despite your busy schedule. Your kind help will be sincerely appreciated.
Best regards.
Sincerely,
Liu Jinghang, an Australia Falun Dafa practitioner
(This letter has been sent to the Singapore Premier on October 12, 2004.)
November 15, 2004
Notes:
(1) "Dead Person's Bed" - The limbs of the practitioners are stretched out and tied to the four corners of an ice-cold metal bed. The practitioners cannot move at all nor are they allowed to get up to eat, drink, or go to the bathroom. This treatment could last anywhere from several hours up to more than two weeks. This type of torture causes severe mental and physical damage.
(2) "Tying the Ropes" - The guards tie up the practitioner with a thin rope, circle the rope around the neck, and tie the hands behind the back. Then the guards use all the force they can muster to tighten the rope. The rope becomes tighter and tighter around the body of the practitioner, and makes it more and more difficult for the person to breathe. The pain is so intense that the practitioner sometimes loses bladder control. There are instances when the rope was tightened enough to break a practitioner's arm.
(Clearwisdom.net) Greetings to everyone! I am an ordinary Internet user in China. I have not been able to learn Falun Gong because I am living in a very remote place. No one here practices Falun Gong or talks factually about the persecution or the true reasons behind it. However, this year I have fortunately been be able to view the Minghui website (1). I have become a frequent visitor. There, I am able to read practitioners' cultivation stories and the truth about Falun Gong. I also read Zhuan Falun (2) and other works written by Falun Gong's founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi. Thus, I have some comprehension of "cultivation." The following is my limited understanding. I am not sure if it is correct, but I would like to share it with you.
Teacher Li has said that "cultivation" is very important; it is the key to increasing gong (3). My understanding is that cultivation includes cultivating wisdom and clarity about Fa principles. Through reading Zhuan Falun and studying the Fa (4), a cultivator ought to feel illuminated and understand the Fa principles, know how to apply this outlook towards life and the world and understand how to face all sorts of conflicts and attachments in one's life. This is the first part of cultivating xinxing (5). The next step is to incorporate understandings of Fa principles into action. In other words, one should treat people and everything in the environment according to one's understanding of Falun Dafa's foundational principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance."
Being able to apply the principles in daily life is the most important part of cultivation. It is the crux to improving xinxing. Cultivating xinxing is imbedded within one's actions. For a cultivator to achieve consummation, he or she has to reach a very pure realm through cultivation. This is like making a steel implement from molten iron and other elements. First, we must shape the form in a special furnace and then refine it under high temperatures. Only then can it become pure steel. Hence, our understanding of Fa principles is just like the furnace: it is only a mold. Bringing the Fa principles into our hearts is just like pouring the molten iron into the mold. Then, applying the principles is akin to refining the steel under high temperatures, driving out the impurities. Thus, cultivating xinxing is imbedded within one's action.
However, due to the principles of mutual-generation and mutual-inhibition and principles of positive and negative in the cosmos, no matter what you do, you will encounter hardships and tribulations. Fearing hardships and suffering are in the roots of all living beings in the old cosmos. These impurities can generate other attachments and karma. The opposite -- that is, enduring hardships and suffering -- is the key to producing mighty virtue. In short, both virtue and karma come from how we handle hardships. Only through enduring hardships, can we eliminate attachments and karma and accumulate mighty virtue. Furthermore, the process of enduring hardships and accumulating mighty virtue is a process of continuously tempering one's will. When the will becomes as strong as diamond, the cultivator can endure much hardship.
From this I enlightened to the understanding that gong forms from cultivating one's xinxing, and the mind nature is tempered through suffering hardships within the activities of daily life. Thus, to cultivate, we need to take opportunities to apply Fa principles while we interact with the world around us. You cannot just talk about cultivation without putting the principles into real action. Without action, how can we rid ourselves of attachments? Without action, how can karma be eliminated? Without action, how can virtue be accumulated? With no action, how can the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance" be manifested? There must be hardships and suffering to be endured! Therefore, I think if a person learns the Fa, the person should first contemplate how to endure hardships and suffering, instead of first thinking about consummation. (In fact, Teacher Li has already provided clear directions in the lectures.)
Finally, to provide encouragement, here is a quote from Teacher Li's poem "Righteous Thoughts and Righteous actions" from Hong Yin II:
Righteous Thoughts and Righteous Actions
A Great Enlightened Being does not fear hardship
Having forged an adamantine will
And with no attachment to living or dying
He walks his path of Fa-rectification openly and nobly

Longquan Temple (Dragon Spring Temple) was built in 1450 (the 1st year of the reign of Emperor Jingtai of the Ming Dynasty) in Baimai Spring Park, Zhangqiu City, Shandong Province, China. The main hall of the Fanwang Royal Palace was reconstructed in 1996. The images of Buddha in the palace are brilliantly shining in gold and green, and the mural images are lifelike and vivid. This is where pious men and women worship Buddhas and meditate. Three large Chinese characters that mean, "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" have been inscribed on plaques and placed into the red wall, creating a peaceful and gracious atmosphere.

(Clearwisdom.net) I am a 47-year old farm worker from Heshizhen Farm in Dazhou City, Sichuan Province. On November 27, 1998, I was introduced to Falun Gong. At the beginning, because I was of a lower educated class, it was difficult for me to understand even the surface meaning of the Fa [Law and principles; the teachings of Falun Dafa], not to mention the profound inner meanings in the Fa. I only knew that the Fa that Teacher taught us was so good that I could not live without it.
On July 20, 1999, Jiang's regime initiated the persecution of Falun Gong. Malicious lies were spread about our respected Teacher, poisoning the minds of people around the world. I was deeply bewildered and sad. How could my Teacher be slandered for teaching us to be good people? All I could do was cry in misery.
On December 24, 1999, I went to Beijing with fellow practitioners to appeal to the government. I wanted them to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. For this I was arrested and detained until February 2000 when Da County Police Department assignees took us back to our hometown, where I remained detained for another 40 days at a local detention center. During that time, the police ransacked my home and confiscated all my Dafa books. They also fined my family 10,000 yuan. The police claimed the fine was to cover the cost of having people bring me back. I heard from my family members later that one meal receipt alone was 900 yuan (about one month of my salary). In reality, on the way back from Beijing, I had eaten only three bags of instant noodles. Among the six people who went to Beijing to bring us back, only two were police officers and the other four were their relatives.
The police instructed the director of Heshizhen Farm, a person by the name of Huang, to collect the fine from my daughter, who was still a junior high school student (my husband was in the hospital at that time). My daughter cried, "You know we don't have that kind of money, my parents are not here. Where do you want me to get money?" Huang left after realizing that he was unsuccessful in his extortion attempt. But the police department insisted on being paid 10,000 yuan. Therefore, Huang was forced to pay the police with money belonging to the farm. Later the farm withheld 6,000 yuan in medical reimbursements earmarked for my husband's hospitalization. They also confiscated 2,000 yuan from our savings fund. From then on, the local police often came to my home and harassed my family.
In 2001, the Da County Police Department arrested me again, because I handed out flyers that told the truth about Falun Dafa. Three other practitioners and I were detained in a filthy detention center for over three months. Later I was transferred to the No. 2 Detention Center in Da County. I refused to cooperate when the guards interrogated me, which gave them an excuse to beat me. When they told me to kneel, I refused. They beat me even more viciously. Seeing that I did not yield to their beatings, they finally gave up. Two months later, we were transferred to the No. 1 Detention Center. We insisted on practicing the Falun Dafa exercises at the detention center even though the guards did not allow it. So they handcuffed us in a position called "carrying a sword in the back" (1). One of the guards commented that he had never seen a woman being handcuffed in this position in all the years he had worked at the detention center. But we were handcuffed like that for over twelve hours. After 13 months of illegal detention, I was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. I was sent to Jianyang Women's Prison and assigned to Brigade Three.
After I arrived in Jianyang, the prison guards demanded that I report to them, as was required of the criminal inmates. I told them that I was a Falun Dafa practitioner and not a criminal. Then, they used all sorts of torture methods to have me admit that I was a criminal. When they saw that I still refused, they hung me on a gate by handcuffs for over six hours.
Because I insisted on practicing the Falun Dafa exercises, the prison guards ordered the inmates to strap me to a bed. They used handcuffs to shackle my hands behind my back and secured them as tightly as possible. I was told, "I will make sure you won't want to live, but I won't let you die even if this is your greatest wish." Seeing me handcuffed like that for the entire night, one of my cellmates was deeply distressed and cried all night long. She knew Falun Gong practitioners were good people, but she did not dare to help me. From then on, each day the guards sent several collaborators (2) to "transform" me. These former practitioners had renounced the principles of Falun Dafa; however, they could not convince me to give up the practice, even though they were well educated and I was not. Once the guards realized that the transformation had failed, they tormented me even more. They did not allow me to study the Fa with other practitioners, and they ordered several inmates to follow me and monitor me closely. One day, one of the inmates saw that my lips were moving, so she asked if I was reciting Falun Dafa teachings. I said yes. She went to the guards and told them. One of them came over and began to belittle me and to beat me. I was again handcuffed to the bed for half a day. They tortured me inside a closed room because they were trying to maintain the appearance of being a civilized prison.
There were three of us practitioners who did not yield to the persecution. We encouraged each other, and we relied on our righteous belief in Teacher and Dafa to resist the persecution. The jail guards forced us to stand facing a wall for around 18 hours each day. During most evenings, they wanted us to write the Guarantee Statements. When we refused, they punished us by having us stand day and night for several days without rest. Inmates took turns watching us. One of them asked me quietly, "How can you put up with this? Why not write a statement and then continue to practice when you get out?" I smiled at her, "I cannot. That is not being truthful. There is nothing wrong with our striving to be good people and following our Teacher's requirements. It would be disgraceful if I admitted any guilt and wrote the Guarantee Statements. That is not even up to the standard of a righteous person, not to mention the standard of a cultivator."
After that incident, we were forced to stand for approximately 18 hours every day for three months. When the jail guards realized that they could not reach their goal by using any of the means they employed, they put us to work in the workshop. We worked about 17 hours per day. In the evenings, we were forced to write about our perception of the situation. We could only sleep after 2:00 a.m. every night. This lasted another three months.
After this, the prison guards set up brainwashing sessions. The instructors were collaborators who had given up the practice under pressure. Those people gave it their all in this brainwashing effort, in order to have their sentences reduced in return for forcing other practitioners to renounce Falun Dafa. They spread lies in the name of Falun Gong practitioners. They accused the practitioners who refused to give in of caring only about themselves. As a result, the guards and some inmates became even more hostile to those of us who were not transformed, and the guards intensified the persecution against us. We were forced to run in the full sun every day without any rest. In the evenings, over a dozen people took turns tormenting one practitioner. There were originally 27 practitioners who refused to renounce Falun Gong. Within a little over two months, half of them gave up. I felt pain in my heart. I thought to myself how hard it must be for my Teacher to save one person. Yet, I also understood that I could not let my feelings for them become an attachment. To cultivate is difficult, and to enlighten is even more difficult. One can either pass or fail each test and tribulation. It is difficult to pass the test, and only one unrighteous thought can ruin it all in the blink of an eye. From then on, I saw the evil nature of the persecution more clearly, and I became more steadfast and clear headed. Even if I could not walk out of the prison, I wouldn't yield to the evil. Once the prison guards realized that they could not change my mind, they sent me back to Brigade Three. I spent all my time working in the workshop, often until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning, and sometimes through the entire night.
In June 2003, I was transferred to Brigade Seven. As soon as I entered the gate, I saw a fellow practitioner handcuffed to a basketball stand. One inmate told me that she had been handcuffed there for over three months because she refused to wear the prison uniform. On that day, she took off the uniform that was forcibly put on her as soon as she was released from the handcuffs, and put on her own clothes. Over a dozen inmates grabbed her and tore her clothes off. They even cut her underwear off with a pair of scissors. The jail guards took away her clothing and put the uniform back on her. She then ran to the bathroom and took it off. Several inmates saw her naked. They then dragged her to the outdoor basketball court for the guards to take pictures. They tormented her mercilessly, violently beat her, and ridiculed her. The practitioner went on a hunger strike in protest. The guards and several inmates then handcuffed her to a gate and tried to force-feed her. Since she refused to cooperate, they used an iron bar to pry her mouth open. They were not just force-feeding her, they were torturing her ruthlessly. When I heard her scream in agony, I deeply felt her suffering.
A few days later, the guards sent that practitioner to the hospital for force-feeding. A tube was inserted through her nose to her stomach while her hands were still handcuffed behind her back, and she was tied to an iron bed for three days. Meanwhile, I was locked up in another room with several inmates guarding me. For refusing to wear the prison uniform, that practitioner suffered so much, yet she did not waver in her determination. I was deeply moved. I enlightened to the fact that the uniform was for criminals. If I wore it, wasn't I admitting that I was guilty of a crime? I took off the uniform, even though I knew the consequences. But I had a fellow practitioner as a model. I was determined not to cooperate with the old force's arrangements even if I lost my life. I resolutely took the uniform off, refused to join the other inmates during prison call, and refused to report to anyone. Right after that, I was subjected to all sorts of tortures. They hurled insults at me. They said I was a fool and was crazy. They beat me, and they handcuffed me and hung me up. When the beating was at its worst, I silently recited,
"How much longer can the evil run rampant?
Every being's volition is fully revealed.
Who could be outside this calamity?
Looking with a smile, at the Gods being foolish." (Essentials for Further Advancement II)
When I had a sense of fear, I thought to myself, "I am a disciple of my Master, what am I afraid of? The certainty of my conviction is worth my life."
After a few days, the guards in Brigade Seven decided that they had run out of methods to deal with us, so they sent us back to Brigade Three. Once I was back, I refused to stand in line during prison call or to report to anyone. The guards did not understand. I told them that I was not a criminal, why should I submit to the prison call? So the guards had a few people drag me to the line. When they told us to squat down, I refused. Then they had a few inmates throw me to the ground. They intentionally prolonged the prison call and blamed me for not cooperating, and causing over three hundred people to endure further hardship. That created conflicts between practitioners and the regular inmates. The inmates did not understand my behavior and some practitioners did not understand it either. They said I was going to extremes. Teacher had said,
"As a human being, you are a good person only if you can follow this universe's characteristic of Zhen-Shan-Ren. A person who deviates from this characteristic is truly a bad person. In the workplace or in society, some people may say that you are bad, yet you may not necessarily be bad. Some people may say that you are good, but you may not really be good. As a practitioner, if you assimilate yourself to this characteristic you are one that has attained the Tao--it's just such a simple principle." (Zhuan Falun)
I enlightened to that teaching, and was not influenced by what the others said. I was certain that as long as something is according to the Fa, it should be followed.
A few days later, the guards changed their tactics. One guard told me, "You don't have to wear the uniform, but you need to have the words 'Provincial Women's Prison' on the back of your clothes." I told them, "Isn't that the same? I will not submit." So the guard called seven or eight inmates to force me to the ground, and then they wrote those characters on the back of my clothes. I did not know what to do.
A fellow practitioner thought we should cut the characters out. So we used scissors to cut out the characters and left a big hole on the back of my clothes. The guards called more inmates and they forced us to the ground. They wrote those characters all over our clothes. I again cut out the words. Three times in a row, I cut six pieces out of the clothing. I had no more clothes. When I worked in the workshop, I had to wear clothes with holes. Other practitioners encouraged me, "Don't be afraid of others laughing at you. When Milarepa cultivated in his time, he didn't have any clothes, so he wrapped himself in a sheet of cloth. Our condition is much better than his. What is there to be afraid of?" Some people thought I was crazy, insane, stupid, and ignorant. I did not care. On the contrary, I felt calm in my heart.
Several days later, the jail guards asked our local police officers to visit me. As soon as I saw them, I told them the truth of Falun Gong. I told them the tortures I had been subjected to in the prison. After they saw the clothes that I was wearing were full of holes, they left without saying a word.
From then on, the jail guards forced us to work all day long without rest, to prevent us from studying the Fa. We strongly demanded to be given time to study, but the guards refused our request saying that as long as we did not "transform," we would not be given time for studying. So I thought to myself, "I will find time to study even if you don't let me." So I used the short time after dinner to study. Because I did not have any books or articles, I just recited Hongying and "Lunyu." Again the guards would not allow it. I was punished by being made to stand for a long time, to walk around the workshop, and to be humiliated by inmates. But none of this had any effect on me. It only hardened my resolve. I continued to study whenever I had time.
Later, a newcomer, who was also a practitioner, recited a paragraph from Master's teachings:
"I often see students like this: 'You don't let me do the exercises, but I insist on doing them. You don't let me study, but I insist on studying. I just won't listen to you evil beings. All you can do is threaten me with death, right?' Of course, Master has said that here to you, who are cultivators. But even so, Master doesn't want to say it, because if everyday people hear it they won't be able to understand. What I'm telling you is that when you're truly able to let go of the thought of life or death you can do anything!" ("Teaching and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference")
Teacher also said that it is another method of silently protesting when you can stand up to validate the Fa in an environment that is filled with evil elements.
Another practitioner and I decided to validate the Fa by practicing the exercises. Once the guards saw us practicing, they immediately handcuffed us to the gate. When it was time to go to work, we were released. After work, we went back to our cells and we immediately started practicing the exercises again. As soon as we started the movements, inmates who were watching us dragged us outdoors and handcuffed us to the gate. Five days later, when the guards saw that we were still trying to practice, they put two of us in solitary confinement. The cell for solitary confinement was dark and small. It was filthy, stinky and humid. It was used for punishing inmates who had violated prison regulations, but it became a place where we practiced the exercises. We were locked up there for 15 days, and we practiced for 15 days.
Fifteen days later, the guards thought we would concede. They let us out and made us work again. When other inmates saw that we both looked even better after 15 days of solitary confinement, some said quietly, "Falun Gong is indeed good and I will practice it when I get out." Some inmates even studied the Falun Dafa articles with us. At that time, I enlightened that I should not participate in forced labor. Our purpose was to validate and defend Dafa. We should negate all the old force's arrangements. We refused to work. The guards then really hated us, and they used all sort of methods to insult and torture us. As soon as we started practicing the exercises, we would be handcuffed to the gate for 16 to 17 hours daily. Several times, the guards hung us up on the window ledge. Several inmates lifted me up to be handcuffed, and then released me, so that the weight of my whole body was on my wrists. I passed out a few times from the pain.
The guards arranged one inmate to watch the two of us. She did not allow us to talk. When we tried to tell her the truth about Falun Gong she refused to listen. One day, a guard saw that we were talking to each other. They ordered her to separate us and not allow us to speak. So we decided to go on a hunger strike. Seven days later, their behavior improved a little. But soon after, it was the same again. We were handcuffed if we studied the Fa or practiced the exercises. Whenever that happened, we went on a hunger strike. That happened six times. Three times, we were on a hunger strike for seven days, and three times for nine days. One time, during five out of the nine days, we were force-fed through tubes inserted into our stomachs. The cruelty of this torture cannot be described in words. We were handcuffed and hung from the gate on and off for more than eight months because we wanted to practice the exercises. In August this year, after three and a half years, I finally walked out of the prison with dignity.
During the three and a half years in prison, when the persecution was at its worst, we were not able to study the Fa for a long time. We did not know the progress of the Fa-rectification, and we had not heard about sending forth righteous thoughts to resist the persecution. We only silently endured it with our steadfast belief in Dafa.
During those three and a half years, I did not do well on many occasions. Mainly because I am not well educated and did not start practicing until right before the persecution began. I did not have a deep understanding of the Fa. I did not clearly understand that it was the old force's arrangement to persecute Dafa and practitioners. Facing the persecution, I only knew to tolerate it unconditionally. The evil took advantage of my loopholes and I endured suffering that I should not have. Whenever I made a mistake, I was always in agony. Teacher gave me many hints and encouraged me when that happened. Teacher truly has great mercy. The Fa-rectification is not finished yet, and I will do the three things (3) well and make up for the past three and a half years, to save more sentient beings and to be worthy of Teacher's benevolence and salvation.
Notes
(1) Carrying a sword in the back - The practitioner's hands are tied behind her back with one hand over the shoulder and the other hand against the lower back. The guards then apply a great deal of force to pull the two hands toward one another and handcuff the two hands together.
(2) Collaborators are former Falun Gong practitioners who have turned against Dafa due to brainwashing and torture.
(3) The three things that Master Li has asked practitioners to do are to study the Fa, send forth righteous thoughts and clarify the truth of Falun Dafa and the persecution to the world's people.
\(Clearwisdom.net) My name is Zhang Qinghui and I am 58 years old. I was originally employed at the Baoding Film Factory. In April 1996 I was fortunate to begin practicing Falun Gong. Prior to practicing Falun Gong I had hepatitis, nephritis, and other illnesses. Due to my weak body and lingering sickness, I was unable to do my normal job or study, and just suffered the hardships of the illnesses. I sought medicine and medical treatment in every possible way, and had practiced several types of qigong, but they all failed to help me or improve my condition. Yet, not long after practicing Falun Gong, my hepatitis pain disappeared and my urinary tract system returned to normal. Having practiced Falun Gong and studied the Fa [Law and principles, the teaching of Falun Dafa], my body became very comfortable, energetic, and full of vigor. I obtained great benefits from Falun Gong's marvelous effects by keeping fit, expelling sickness, and building a healthier body. I was therefore diligent in doing the exercises and Fa-study together with fellow practitioners, and spreading Falun Dafa, bringing honor to the practice.
On July 20, 1999, when the persecution of Falun Dafa began, I went to Beijing to appeal for understanding regarding Falun Dafa and was illegally arrested and taken back to Baoding. After returning to Baoding, my employer threatened me with a layoff or firing.
On February 9, 2001, when I was distributing flyers explaining the truth of Falun Dafa, the authorities illegally abducted me, and I was imprisoned for three months, during which time I suffered all kinds of mistreatment and insults. After being released I learned that my family paid 8,700 yuan to get me released.
In July 2001 I returned to my hometown, Liangzhai Village, Wenren Township, Qingyuan County. I continued to explain the facts of Falun Dafa by distributing truth-clarifying materials and Dafa books. I told the villagers of the grandeur of Dafa, based on my own personal experiences. At the same time I exposed Jiang's and his group's slander of Falun Dafa, and helped fellow villagers understand the truth of Dafa. I also shared experiences with those practitioners who had not yet stepped out to validate the Fa. We went out together to eliminate the evil by putting up posters, distributing flyers, and doing the three things that Dafa disciples are supposed to do [study the Fa, explain the facts of Dafa and the persecution and send righteous thoughts].
During the night of July 20, 2001, I was abducted a second time, and all truth-clarification materials and Dafa books were taken from my home. I was taken to the Wenren Township government building and subjected to cruel beatings. Later, after being detained in that building for three days because of my inability to pay the 8,000 yuan "fines" that the enforcers demanded, I was sent to a brainwashing center in a northern urban district of Baoding. I was handcuffed as soon as I arrived and hung on a window frame by the handcuffs. I was left in this painful position, unable to turn for the whole day and night. I was not let down until the guards came to work the following day. By then the skin on my wrists was torn, my arms were swollen, and I could not walk.
I was illegally kept at the brainwashing center for a week, and was interrogated every other day. One time the police attempted to reform me ["reforming" is forcing one to renounce Falun Gong]. I told them the facts of my own experience with Falun Dafa. The second time they threatened me, and demanded that I pay a fine of 5,000 yuan. I thought, although I don't have the money, I am not going to accept their attempt at reforming me! I know I ought to firmly continue the practice. Two days after, they sent me to the Baoding City Dongjiao Detention Center. That was my second time being in that detention center.
As soon as I entered the detention center, two people pushed me into a room with more than thirty people. Because toilet breaks were forbidden, plus with so many people being there, the temperature was quite high and one could hardly breathe. The prison warden ordered several people to brutally beat me, stating that it was on orders from higher authorities.
After being cruelly beaten I felt dizzy. I could not bend my legs and I was unable to walk steadily. I was persecuted in this manner for over three months. Because I did not give up the practice, nor give them any sense that I was being reformed, I was sent to the Bali Village Forced Labor Camp in a southern urban district of Baoding for two years.
The camp head forced me to do the work of washing clothes. That day more than ten Falun Gong practitioners were abducted and brought there. All of us were forced to work continuously until after midnight. The next day some guards and other personnel conducted an unlawful interrogation. I told them that people had been mislead about Dafa because of the fabrications and propaganda spread in the media, and that the purpose of our distributing flyers is merely to let the people know the facts. I told them that Falun Gong does not try to seize any power or position, and that it is a great qigong practice for keeping fit, expelling sickness, and building a healthy body. I continued by saying that the practice teaches one to be kind, by practicing Zhen-Shan-Ren (Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance), and practitioners strive to become genuinely good people. I told them the reason I distributed flyers was to eliminate the misunderstandings about Falun Gong. They had nothing to say in reply.
I was imprisoned under such conditions for over a year, and was released on February 12, 2002.
When I arrived back to home, my small yard and room were empty -- nothing was left. I went to talk to my employers at the factory. They ignored me and even verbally abused me. In those days it was really difficult to make a living, because the only recourse I had was to depend on my brothers, younger sister, other relatives, and my friends. With their support I got by. Because my wife was sick and needed to be looked after, I could not work out of town, and had no money to even buy vegetables. Because of the abuse I had suffered in detention, I was physically quite weak, extremely skinny and frail, and more dead than alive. Although being faced with such difficulties, I certainly would not give up the practice, and I still filled my heart with Dafa. I held the book Zhuan Falun [the principle text of Falun Dafa], faced Master's portrait and said, "Master, I am Zhang Qinghui. As long as I have one breath, as long as I am alive, even if I have to beg for food, I will still practice Falun Gong. I will never go back on my promise."
I did what I promised. To this day, I have never skipped my Fa-study and exercises. Whenever my wife would get a little better, I read to her from Zhuan Falun, and we sent forth righteous thoughts and studied the Fa together. Later my wife recovered and my family became more harmonious. With Teacher's Dafa [great Law], his published lectures and guidance, a big tribulation like this was cleared up.
For these past five years on this road of practicing Falun Dafa, I have experienced many difficulties and have navigated a rough, uneven path. I encountered many kinds of troubles and setbacks, but I also learned many lessons, had many inspirations, accomplished certain goals, and steadily improved myself. During these years I also walked tortuous stretches along the path, which was due to my lack of Fa-study and because of ordinary people's notions and attachments that I still had not let go of. Every time this happened, the problems were resolved by Fa-study, from reading Teacher's lectures, or with the help of fellow practitioners.
These are my experiences during my five years of Falun Dafa practice. Please point out any misunderstandings I might have.
(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Li Zhen (pseudonym) was a habitual thief who had been repeatedly arrested and jailed in Squad 5 of the Tianjin Women's Forced Labor Camp.
When the group leader met her there again, he said, "Li Zhen, you are really a hard-core criminal. Last time I saw you, you claimed that from now on, you would behave yourself, but here you are, doing time again." With great dignity, Ms. Li Zhen answered him, "No sir! This time, it is because I have become a good person that the authorities have imprisoned me here. Since I was released last time, I started to practice Falun Gong. Our Teacher has helped me to understand the genuine purpose of human life, and showed me how to be a good person by always considering the welfare of others first, thus curing me completely of my old bad habits. This time I was arrested because I have been telling my experiences to our country's leaders, that Falun Gong is good for our society and the country. When I was a thief, you were justified in arresting me, but now I can't understand why I am being jailed for having become a good person."
The group leader was left without any arguments. Every day when the prison employees and their collaborators tried to "transform" her [force her to renounce Falun Gong], Li Zhen always asked, "What do you guys want to transform me into? Do you want to turn me back into a thief again?"
In fact, Ms. Li Zhen had tried many time to start over with a clean slate. Before she began practicing Falun Gong, she even cut off one of her fingers, causing her great pain, to show her determination to correct her erroneous ways; but she failed to come through. She said that only the power of Falun Gong gave her a new life and turned her into a good person.

1. [Huaihua City, Hunan Province] Mr. Yu Shaoqi Is Tortured For Clarifying the Truth of Falun Gong
In September 2004, Mr. Yu Shaoqi was arrested for clarifying the truth from a phone booth. Yu Qingchang and Xie Kaiji from the Chenxi County National Security Brigade tortured Yu Shaoyi during the interrogation and beat him until he bled. At the county prison, Yu Shaoqi went on a hunger strike in protest and lost consciousness while being force-fed. The minute Yu walked into the prison, the director, Liu Qiliang, had him shackled with iron chains meant for prisoners on death row and beat him. On his way to the Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp in Changsha City, Mr. Yu shouted, "Falun Dafa is great" and was twice beaten until he lost consciousness. In the Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp, guards arranged for three prisoners to closely follow Mr. Yu and torture him. Yu Shaoqi insisted on doing the exercises and explaining the facts about Falun Gong, so the guards have beaten him many times. Once when Mr. Yu's family went to the labor camp to visit him, his face was bruised and swollen. His family could barely recognize him. Yu Shaoqi is currently on a hunger strike.

(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Also, as more and more people in China learn the truth about how they have been deceived and lied to by the Jiang regime, many non-practitioners are also submitting "solemn declarations."
Here are some examples of the Solemn Declarations:
