Let Go of Attachments and Strive Forward on the Road of Fa-Rectification Cultivation

November 23, 2004 |   By a Dafa disciple from Hebei Province

(Clearwidom.net) After seeing the "call-for-articles" notice about the First Written Experience-Sharing Conference for Practitioners in China, I felt it was something of great importance. However, I had not been thinking of writing anything until I read Master's new articles "Let Go of Human Attachments and Save the World's People" and "In Fa-Rectification Your Thoughts Have to Be Righteous, Not Human." I was shocked. After seeing the notice I kept thinking, "What is the root cause of my not being able to strive forward vigorously?" The two new articles pointed it out to me: I had not let go of my human attachments.

Reflecting carefully over the years of the process of my cultivation practice, I have indeed displayed attachments to human thinking and the human heart that I have not yet let go of. These have been a block on the path of my cultivation. There are many instances of this. I had approached Dafa and the validation of Dafa with sentimentality and did not rationally understand the Fa from the viewpoint of the Fa (1). For example, I ought to be good at clarifying the facts and validating Dafa, otherwise, how could I be a genuine Dafa disciple when I was validating Dafa? However, whenever I clarified the facts I was afraid and did not dare to do it on a large scale. After doing only a little, I felt reassured as though I had done my duty. When it came to thinking about other practitioners who were being persecuted, I felt grieved and cried, especially over the news of those who were killed in the persecution. I felt that those who lacked human conscience and cruelly persecuted Dafa disciples had suffered too little karmic retribution. I felt that they should be judged immediately so that more evil people would not be able to go on with their unbridled persecution.

I respect practitioners who have firm righteous thoughts, have given up their attachment to life and death, and have not given in to the evil but have instead firmly upheld the Fa. I respect the Dafa disciples outside of mainland China who clarify the facts about Dafa and the persecution, help to save people, fight for international justice and morality in support of Falun Gong, and condemn those in China who are so maliciously persecuting Falun Gong. Their great efforts and achievements have been reducing the evil's onslaught against Dafa practitioners. There are countless stories of practitioners who have been crippled and even tortured to death. Thus, I looked forward to the arrival of the Fa rectifying the human world and for the quick end to the persecution. But from another angle, I also hoped there would be more time for cultivation practice, because I had not yet cultivated up to the standard.

The above examples illustrate how heavy my human attachments are. This is not the state that a Dafa disciple should be in at this most important time of validating the Fa.

Our Master said,

"My Dafa disciples who have strong human thoughts: the path I'm leading you down heads toward godhood, yet some students just tenaciously cling to human notions. Before, in personal cultivation you always saw Dafa's benefits as benefits for human society; during the tribulation, you've taken the persecution of Dafa disciples by evil beings in this cosmos using bad people to be human acts;" ("In Fa-Rectification Your Thoughts Have to Be Righteous, Not Human")

By continuously studying Master's scriptures and evaluating the condition of my own cultivation practice, I realize that when I let go of my human attachments, then I can truly walk the path to Godhood. I have come to realize a deeper meaning in Master's words reflecting on,

"With attachments left behind, the lightened boats sail swiftly, With a preoccupied human heart, crossing the ocean proves arduous."

("The Knowing Heart," Essentials for Further Advancement II),

In Zhuan Falun, Master says,

"I will mainly make a few requirements: I hope that all of you will treat yourselves as practitioners in future cultivation practice and truly continue your cultivation practice."

And in another section of Zhuan Falun, Master says,

"To tell you the truth, the entire cultivation process for a practitioner is one of constantly giving up human attachments."

Before, when I read the Fa, I thought I understood everything and would thus read through the book quickly. But, in reality, I could perceive very little of what Master was saying. By adhering to human thinking, how can I possibly be a cultivator? If I want to be a genuine practitioner, I must continuously let go of my human attachments and my human sentimentality. This is the way to "walk the path of a God."

The above is only a small part of my recent understanding from studying Master's new articles. I felt that I should write something and act according to Master's requirements.
