Los Angeles: Minghui School Opens Its Doors (Photo)

(Clearwisdom.net) After the 2003 Washington DC Fa-Conference, practitioners from the Los Angeles area shared an understanding of the importance of establishing a Minghui School. In the weeks following the conference, practitioners began the process of setting up a Minghui School to create a better cultivation environment for young practitioners. They consulted with Minghui Schools in other cities to share experiences and carefully designed the curriculum, searched for teachers, picked the teaching materials and classrooms. After a four-week preparation, the Los Angeles Minghui Chinese School opened on August 16, 2003.

Los Angeles is a large city and commuting is inconvenient. When the practitioners have a meeting, many of them need to drive for 30 minutes to an hour, so we decided to arrange more and longer classes. Every Saturday, the class starts at 2 PM and lasts to 8 PM, including 20 minutes of break and snack time. The major courses begin early and are followed by elective courses.

The major courses include Fa-Study, reciting Hong Yin, story telling, Chinese Pinyin, and Chinese language. The elective courses include music, dance, martial arts, GO, chess, etc. There are also activities like sending forth righteous thoughts and practicing the Falun Gong exercises.

In order to minimize the impact to other Dafa work and to reduce the cost of running the school, we give the priority to practitioners with special skills and/or teaching experience when selecting teachers. While designing the curriculum, first we ensure that the young practitioners have time to study the Fa and practice the exercises. Second, we arrange other academic, art and leisure courses. These elective courses increase the interest level for students and help to prepare for the future, when the school opens to non-practitioners' children.
