(Clearwisdom.net) The "Rescue Charles Li Car Tour" arrived in New Jersey on September 9, 2003. The members of the car tour and residents of New Jersey who helped with the rescue and local Falun Gong practitioners organized press conferences in front of the Newark City Hall and Trenton City State Council Building.

On the morning of September 9, the press conference in front of Newark City Hall attracted attention from the largest newspaper in the state, the Star Ledger, and Chinese media, including the World Journal. Many passersby and city government officials signed their names on the petition letter. Newark City Council Member Mr. Luis A. Quintana called on the media to support the petition to release Charles Li. Two New Jersey congressmen Roth Holt and Robert Andrews wrote letters to express their concern for Charles Li's case.

State Assemblyman Mr. Reed Gusciora attended the press conference in Trenton and gave a speech. He said that he was proud to be a long time supporter to Falun Gong and stated that the American people need "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance" and hopes that Dr. Charles Li will return to America soon.

Friends of Falun Gong (FoFG), with its headquarters is New Jersey, was one of the organizers of the car tour. FoFG Executive Director Alan Adler said that Dr. Li is a brave upholder of justice. He was put into jail because he refused to accept the lies Jiang's regime forced onto Chinese people.

Chen Gong: Concerned about Charles' situation due to his own experience

Chen Gong, who was jailed in China for three years and rescued to America recently, also attended the press conference. He talked about his own experiences of being tortured in China, including being deprived of sleep for 15 days, only allowed to sleep 2 to 4 hours a day, and being shocked by electric batons in sensitive areas.

He said that the rescue effort overseas do have an effect in China. When the policemen in Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp knew that foreign countries were trying to rescue him, the persecution was somewhat less harsh. But there are many practitioners being persecuted who are not known to the outside world. They are experiencing more beatings and tortures. He hopes kindhearted people overseas will try their best to help those practitioners in China and help to secure Charles Li's release as early as possible.

Yeong-qing Foo appeals to everyone to help rescue Charles Li

Charles' fiancée Yeong-qing Foo talked about Charles' experiences of persecution in the jail and his hunger strike protest, asking everyone to help rescue him. She said that the lawyers in China have been ordered not to accept cases related to Falun Gong and there is no justice for Falun Gong practitioners in China. According to officials of the American Consulate, Li was tortured by prison guards, and Chinese policemen continuously force-fed him as punishment for his hunger strike. In the end, she appealed to everyone to help rescue Charles Li. People can write letters or make phone calls to China or American officials, requesting the immediate release of Charles Li.
