A Chinese Woman Living Abroad Says, "The Persecution of Falun Gong is Jiang's 'Waterloo'"

A couple of days ago when I called one of my classmates from college, I mentioned the persecution of Falun Gong. She then told me a story about something that happened to her.

She and her husband were touring somewhere on vacation when a suspicious-looking person approached them and asked her about her opinion on Falun Gong. She firmly answered, "If you ask me, I would say that the persecution of Falun Gong is Jiang's Waterloo. Why? There are so many serious crises happening today in China, yet he doesn't care. Why did he get so obsessed with fighting against Falun Gong? Many Falun Gong practitioners are elderly people. They are not interfering with anybody. People should be free to decide whether they want to practice it or not. Why would he persecute those practitioners? If he has time, why doesn't he work on those corrupt governmental officials!"

That person then asked her for her address and phone number so he could contact her later. She answered frankly, "No. I don't have time to deal with you."

Her husband asked her afterwards, "Why weren't you more careful when you knew that the person was suspicious?" She said, "I've seen so much persecution against various kinds of people while I was in China. Why should I be afraid now? They persecute one group of people today and another tomorrow. Yet they'll announce their rehabilitation the day after tomorrow. Which one of those mass [persecution] movements has been proven to be correct? Now it's just another mass movement against people who practice Falun Gong. Why don't they do something meaningful?"

She also told me that she didn't want to practice Falun Gong herself and she didn't object to my practicing Falun Gong. She said that it is the Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and its persecution of Chinese citizens that truly makes her angry.
