On January 14, 2003, we learned that the Haicheng local authorities would unduly take fellow practitioners Mr. Meng Yong, Ms. Pan Yujun, Mr. Zhang De, Ms. Cui Xiujun, Mr. Bei Hongsheng, Mr. Pan Fangsheng, Ms. Dai Xiulian, Ms. Wang Feng, Mr. Guo Lifeng, and others to court on January 17th. We all started sending forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil factors in other dimensions that were persecuting the practitioners. On the morning of the 17th, local practitioners showed up early at the courthouse to watch the proceedings, but they were chased away by the police. Only two relatives of the accused practitioners were allowed in and they were given some threatening warnings.
At 8 a.m. police sirens pierced the air in Haicheng city as a fleet of police cars arrived at the courthouse. At 9 a.m. nine Falun Gong practitioners walked into court holding their heads high and their shoulders back. At the sight of the practitioner's emaciated bodies, due to suffering from torture, the audience could be heard making remarks to each other about their appearance. The practitioners kept sending forth righteous thoughts while explaining the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong. It was said that the upright and eloquent comments from the nine practitioners made the prosecutors speechless and so the planned mock trial ended abruptly in less than an hour.
On January 28, 2003, (the eve of the Lunar New Year) at 9 a.m. the evil authorities held a secret court hearing. However, there were no remarks from the defense. Without following proper legal procedures or presenting any evidence of a crime, Judge Zhao Guangyuan, together with his associates Mr. Wang Pong and Mr. Li Wei, followed the recommendations of the evil regime and sentenced the practitioners to long jail terms. Ms. Cui Xiujun was sentenced to 12 years, Mr. Zhang De and Mr. Meng Yong, 10 years, Mr. Bei Hongsheng, 9 years, Ms. Pan Yujun , Mr. Pan Fangsheng, and Mr. Guo Lifeng, 8 years, Ms. Dai Xiulian, 7 years, and Ms. Wang Feng, 3 years. All of these practitioners refused to accept their sentences and indicated that they wanted to appeal.
The evil "610 Office" [a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches], the court, and the jail staff tightly controlled the distribution of the news about the sentenced practitioners. It is reported that the practitioners were transferred to either Gai County jail or Shengyang's Dabei jail.
