Exposing the Shameless Propaganda of "Victorious" Brainwashing

February 27, 2003 |   By Zhao Liang

(Clearwisdom.net) Right after the Festival of Lanterns (February 15), I turned on my TV in the US and accidentally tuned to a CCTV [Jiang's state directed media] program that was displaying another "victory" in Jiang's brainwashing campaign. The victim's name was Mr. Song Yuesheng, a man I had heard of. I could not help but watch it to the bitter end.

Song Yuesheng was an art instructor in Hainan Province's School of Culture and Art and a well-known sculptor in the province. He should have had a bright future and a fulfilling life. On July 22, 1999, however, the Chinese government announced Falun Gong to be an illegal organization. As a Falun Gong practitioner, Song Yuesheng fulfilled his right, bestowed by the Constitution, to appeal to higher authorities. Nevertheless, he was illegally arrested. On November 12, 1999, the City Court of Haikou City, Hainan Province, sentenced Song to a 12-year jail term jail for "utilizing the [slanderous term omitted] organization to disrupt the fulfillment of the law." Three other practitioners were given sentences of varying lengths the same day. The "law" that was used to convict Song--the so-called "decision to ban and punish [slanderous term omitted] organizations"--was hastily contrived by Jiang and issued at his direction by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress" on October 30, 1999, after Song had been arrested. This practice of arresting people first, followed by making laws tailored to the situation, and then imposing heavy sentences belies the ruling party's slogan "Rule the country by Law." In fact, Jiang's practice of ignoring laws has ironically been termed "a Chinese characteristic."

Song Yuesheng is an example of the "thought crime" victim, who has been deprived of personal freedom and jailed because of his faith in "Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance." The CCTV proudly reported, "The police officers' patient and painstaking ideological work with Song Yuesheng eventually destroyed his faith and successfully 'transformed' him."

The Declaration of Independence of the United States and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights issued by the United Nations both agree that freedom of belief is a fundamental human right that cannot be ignored. In China, however, such a serious human rights violation as physically and mentally torturing an imprisoned person to destroy his will and then brainwashing him with fallacies and lies to "transform" his faith in Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance has been touted by the CCTV as a "victory" in its propaganda campaign.

The purpose of CCTV's propaganda about this brainwashing "triumph" was to show people not only the effectiveness of the Jiang's brainwashing but also how grateful the brainwashed person is to Jiang's regime. However, anyone with the capacity for independent thinking wouldn't follow that logic. Do you believe it? Just take a quick vote of the people in the world to see who would be willing to stay in a mainland jail to enjoy the "patient and painstaking" brainwashing.

Even Jiang's regime itself doesn't believe its announced "victory." While trumpeting its success on the TV, they were still keeping Song Yuesheng in jail, not daring to return his personal freedom. Once someone is released from the terrorism of imprisonment, the ability of independent thinking is restored, and one is soon able to deny the "transformation" that occurred under the pressure of terror.

Jiang's regime not only won't allow the so-called "transformed" Falun Gong practitioners to freely receive information and thoughts from the outside world, but they dare not even allow everyday Chinese people, those who don't practice Falun Gong, to freely acquire information. At about the same time that the CCTV broadcast the brainwashing victory story, the China News Service, another mouthpiece of the Jiang regime, was announcing another masterpiece: "A Leading Technology -- The Breakthrough in Network Filtering Studies." I looked closely and discovered that it is actually the "Falun Gong Content Inspection System" developed by the Institute of Acoustics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It uses the conceptual hierarchy network analysis of sentences and an advanced Chinese sentence analysis technique to filter information streams on the Internet. It enables the Jiang Regime to mandate network filtering and prevent the Chinese people from gaining access to any information of which the authority doesn't approve. In this, the age of information and globalization, what the Jiang Regime is developing and broadcasting are all going against the trend.

How did the Jiang Regime's brainwashing "victory" come about? In the following paragraph from the Clearwisdom.net website, we can see that brainwashing is by no means "patient and painstaking" work.

Jiang gave orders to "kill Falun Gong practitioners without mercy." Before that, on June 10, 1999, he ordered the formation of the "610 Office" that has absolute power to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners, overriding both the constitution and state laws. Afterwards, he ordered the "610 office" to assure the police that "If you beat a practitioner to death, you will be free of responsibility, and it will be counted as suicide." Since July 20, 1999, according to nongovernmental channels, 573 Falun Gong practitioners, from 30 provinces, autonomies, and municipalities, have been confirmed dead. Based on estimates provided at the end of October 2001 by individuals inside the Jiang Regime, the true number of deaths was at least 1600. There are over 6000 Falun Gong practitioners illegally sentenced to imprisonment. Over one hundred thousand practitioners were illegally sent to forced labor camps for "reeducation through labor." Several thousand practitioners were sent to mental hospitals, where they were injected with nerve-destroying substances. Hundreds of thousands of practitioners were kidnapped to "brainwashing classes" to suffer untold mental tortures. Other practitioners were beaten, subjected to physical punishments, and fined by the "law enforcement personnel." During these three and half years of persecution, Jiang has carried out a reign of national terror in China, causing innumerable Falun Gong practitioners to be beaten to death or injured. They have been forced to leave their homes, their wives and their children in order to avoid arrest. The relatives, friends, and colleagues of millions of Falun Gong practitioners have also suffered varying degrees of harassment and brainwashing.
