Dear Ms [name omitted]:

It was a pleasure meeting you on October 9, 2002 when you visited my office in Washington, D.C.

As you know, I share your strong concern for securing justice for Falun Gong practitioners in the People's Republic of China and in the United States of America, and I have been committed to speaking out against the harassment, repression, and persecution of Falun Gong practitioners around the world. As you requested, you will be happy to learn that I am a proud cosponsor of H.Con.Res. 447, introduced by Rep. Lynn Woolsey on July 24, 2002, which urges the government of the People's Republic of China to cease the harassment and persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. H.Con.Res. 447 also calls upon the U.S. Attorney General to investigate claims of harassment and threats by the government of China against Falun Gong practitioners on American soil. Unfortunately, action was not taken on H.Con.Res. 447 prior to the close of the 107th Congress. Please be assured that I will keep your support for similar legislations very much in mind when the 108th Congress begins in January, 2003.

I also appreciate receiving the support materials regarding the persecution of Falun Gong across the United States, and the pressure exerted by the Chinese Consulate on town in New Jersey that passed resolution supporting Falun Gong. I have taken the liberty of forwarding these materials to Secretary of State Colin Powell. I have enclosed a copy of my letter to Secretary Powell for your information and review. Please be assured that I will forward you the response as soon as I receive one.

Thank you again for contacting me. As your Representative in the United States Congress, it is a privilege and an honor to serve you and to act as your voice in Washington. Please feel free to contact me again with any other issue or matter that concerns you.

Sincerely,

Steven R. Rothman

Member of Congress
