July 20, 2002 |   By the Falun Dafa Association of Canada

(Clearwisdom.net) Over the past three years, the Falun Dafa Association of Canada has received several hundred letters from Canadian government officials at various levels, calling on China to stop persecuting Falun Gong and expressing their support for the freedom of speech and the freedom of belief. The Falun Dafa Association of Canada is composed of volunteer practitioners who have received many support letters over this time period, so please forgive us for not being able to report all of the important letters and events.

Below are some of the unpublished support letters written by Canadian government officials. We are also happy to report that VIPs from different countries jointly signed a petition to call for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong at the Congress of Liberal International held at the end of October 2000 in Ottawa.

1. Over the past three years, Canadian VIPs at all levels showed their concern and called for the end of the persecution of Falun Gong

On September 3, 1999, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs at that time, Mr. Lloyd Axworthy, said in his reply letter to Falun Gong: "We are very concerned about this suppression of the basic rights of freedom of expression and spiritual practice and call on the Chinese government to respect these essential human rights." He also said: "The Canadian Embassy in Beijing has raised our concerns about the treatment of Falun Gong members with the Chinese Foreign Ministry. Departmental officials have expressed our views on this matter to the Chinese Ambassador in Canada. We have also registered our concerns at the Plurilateral Symposium on Human Rights, which was held in Qingdao, China on July 26 and 27. This event was co-hosted by Canada, China and Norway."
