Reflections on My Trip to Hong Kong: Do Not Forget Our True Purpose

July 13, 2002 |   By a Taiwan Dafa Practitioner

(Clearwisdom.net) Initially I thought the purpose of going to Hong Kong was to send forth righteous thoughts in close proximity. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that idea. However, if we only focus on the specific activity of sending forth righteous thoughts and forget that our real purpose is to save sentient beings with a compassionate heart, we have omissions. If a significant proportion of those practitioners who went to Hong Kong had the same idea, it would constitute a very strong attachment, which would be taken advantage of by the old forces to increase the difficulty of the test for us.

No matter whether we send forth righteous thoughts or clarify the truth to people, our purpose is to save sentient beings to the greatest extent possible. If we all realize this, we will always manifest our practitioners' compassion under all circumstances. Master said, "Every person you come into contact with in society is someone to clarify the truth to..." (Essentials for Further Advancement II, "To All Students at the Nordic Fa Conference") Naturally this would include Hong Kong's police officers. If we are attached to only entering Hong Kong to send forth righteous thoughts in close proximity, but lack a compassionate heart to save all sentient beings, our attachment may be used as an excuse by the old forces to interfere with us.

We all know that we must thoroughly oppose all the old forces' arrangements, but how can we go about accomplishing this? At the very least, if all of us can solidify our righteous thoughts and be forgiving and benevolent, we will be able to break through the old forces' arrangements more naturally. Master said in "Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Boston:" "The best way to deal with this situation is for Dafa disciples to walk their paths righteously, to try their best not to let the evil or the old forces take advantage of their gaps, and to solidify their righteous thoughts. The old forces don't dare to oppose our clarifying the truth or saving sentient beings. What's key is to not let them take advantage of the gaps in your state of mind when you do things."

When we were refused entry to Hong Kong, did we react like everyday people? When we become emotional, our righteous thoughts and compassionate heart have already diminished; isn't that the same as bolstering the evil's excuses? If Dafa disciples' thoughts are kind, pure and righteous, the evil's capacity will be automatically weakened. As Teacher said, "Your current performance as Dafa disciples is magnificent. All of this is your goodness (shan) made manifest, and it is what evil fears most." (Essentials for Further Advancement II, "Rationality")

Teacher told us that, "Other people may treat us badly, but we do not treat others badly, nor do we treat people as enemies" ("A Brief Statement of Mind"). My understanding is that this does not apply only on the surface, as when others hit me and I do not hit back. There is a gulf of difference between the mindset of a practitioner and that of an everyday person. Our compassion, kindness, pure righteousness and forbearance are what distinguish us from others. This is not weakness, nor should it be seen as being compromising or yielding. It is a manifestation of an enlightened being's benevolence, and his pure and perfectly harmonious unbreakable righteous thoughts without omission.
