Apple Daily reported that 2 days ago at around 2 or 3 a.m., Jingshou City, Hubei Province was hit by a fierce hailstorm. The storm swept rapidly through Qianggan, Jinji and 21 villages in Guanyin and Tudang Counties in Jingzhou City. It caused 6 deaths, nearly 100 people were injured, 849 houses were severely damaged and more than 30,000 acres of crops were destroyed. The economic loss was close to 7,850,00 Yuan [Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban worker is about 500 Yuan].

Ming Bao reported that recently a large-scale termite infestation was found at the bank of Huai River in Huainan city, Anhui Province. A specialist estimated that there were at least four major termite nests in the area. Termites are terribly destructive to the river embankment. At the current rate, two thousand termites can be hatched within ten minutes.

This year Shanghai has suffered continuously from two large-scale termite infestations in March and April. The termite colonies spread, migrated and reproduced rapidly. There are about 3,000 households that are infested by termites. It is estimated that the economic loss resulting from these infestations will be over 15 million Yuan.
