U.S. Congressman Richard Burr's Letter to a Practitioner

April 12, 2002 |

March 17,2002

Dear (name omitted):

Thank you for contacting my office to express your concerns about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in the People's Republic of China. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this important matter and apologize for the delay in my response.

As you may know, I have been a critic of China's treatment of Falun Gong and other persecuted groups. I have also cosponsored bills that express Congress's disapproval of the People's Republic of China's (PRC) treatment of Falun Gong practitioners. It is my hope that by expressing our disapproval of the PRC's actions, we can help alleviated the suffering of Falun Gong practitioners in China. I am encouraged that during his trip to the PRC, President Bush addressed the issue of religious freedom in China both during a speech and in private discussion with President Jiang Zemin.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this important matter with me. If I can be of additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Richard Burr
Member of congress
