Australian Members of Parliament Support Falun Gong

October 26, 2002 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Shortly before the APEC meeting, several members of the Australian Parliament wrote letters to the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Immigration and expressed their concern about the Falun Gong practitioners' family members being persecuted in China.

In a letter MP Peter Andren wrote to Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Alexander Downer, he stated: Ms. Li Ying is a Falun Gong practitioner. She was detained because of passing some video materials about this group. I noticed that you had openly spoken up about this issue and I appreciate the diplomatic efforts you had made on it. But recently, I heard that three Canadian Falun Gong practitioners' family members were released before their terms and they have re-united with their families in Canada. I think, according to such cases, we can use same method to help Ms. Li Ying and other detained family members of Australian citizens.

MP Mr. Tony Wonder replied to a Falun Gong practitioner's letter and said that he had written a letter to Foreign Affairs Minister Downer and asked him to raise the Falun Gong issue during the APEC meeting.

MP Ms. Jill Hall and MP Mr. Alen Camden also wrote letters to the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Immigration asking them to pay attention to Australian citizens and residents being detained in China.
