January 04, 2002 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Cao Kai, male, 30 years old, was a Ph.D candidate in the Development Institute at the Chinese Academy of Science. On July 20, 1999, he was secretly taken away from his home to the Academy and illegally detained. Later he was put under surveillance for about a month and threatened by the police in an attempt to discover the source of Dafa materials. In September 1999, he was detained for 15 days for practicing the Falun Gong exercises in a public place. After his arrest Cao was then suspended from school. His employer, ignoring the fact that Cao's infant was suffering from severe heart disease, forcibly took back their apartment. As a result, Cao and his wife were homeless for a long period of time. Their baby endured many hardships because of this and died before reaching his first birthday. On October 28, 1999, after Cao went to the National People's Congress to appeal, he was detained for one month at the Haidian Detention Center. In December 1999, when the original members of the Falun Dafa Research Society were illegally tried, the authorities were afraid that he would be in the audience, so they detained him in the Zhongguancun Police Station on the day of the trial. In March 2000, the police from the Beijing Public Security Bureau broke into Cao's apartment and arrested him. He was detained for four days and released due to a lack of evidence. On May 12, 2000, the police again burst into Cao's apartment and arrested him. Cao's pregnant wife Zhang Wenfang blocked the way of the police vehicle and prevented him from being taken away. In June 2000, Cao was arrested by the police in Hainan. He was then detained in the Number 7 Detention Center and the Haidian Detention Center in Beijing for almost one hundred days. During those one hundred days, Cao went on a hunger strike to protest his illegal detainment. The staff at the Detention Center tortured Cao repeatedly and force-fed him by inserting a tube into his stomach through his nose. The guards then cruelly left the tube in his esophagus for a long period of time. Due to the long-term torture, Cao Kai was on the verge of death. At the end of September 2000, he was released by the Haidian Detention Center. In February 2001, Cao was again arrested by the police while sharing his views on cultivation in a fellow practitioner's house. At present nobody knows Cao's whereabouts. It is said that he is now being detained in Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp.

During the daytime, he was taken to the police station and interrogated about the source of the Falun Dafa materials. During the nighttime he was escorted back to his home to sleep. For a long period of time, the local police followed Qin Wei wherever he went and monitored his home telephone. On October 27, 1999, after he went to the National People's Congress to appeal, he was detained at the Haidian Detention Center for one month. On New Year's Eve 2000, he went to Tiananmen Square again to protest the persecution of Falun Gong, but he was viciously beaten and detained for 50 days. After his release in March 2000, he was again detained for one month after clarifying the truth about Falun Gong at the Military Museum, which was holding an exhibition that slandered Falun Dafa. At the end of June 2000, Qin heard that a Falun Dafa practitioner had been arrested when he was copying Falun Dafa materials, so he went to reason with the police but was arrested himself. After he was detained for one month, he was sentenced to Beijing's Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp for one year. At the labor camp, the police tried to force him to stop practicing Falun Gong. During the latter half of September 2000, the guards denied him sleep, beat him, and forced him to attend brainwashing classes. In addition, Qin was forced to make all kinds of products for the labor camp. During his detention Qin Wei was very firm in his cultivation. In June 2001, when he was due for release, his sentence was extended for six months. Currently, he is still being detained at the labor camp.

The police asked Wang to promise that he would not appeal for Falun Gong anymore, but he firmly refused. On December 30, he was detained at Zhongguancun Police Station for two more days. In March 2000, he was taken from his dormitory and detained at Haidian Police Station for one day. In April 2000, he was forcibly detained by the Academy of Science for several days, during which he was isolated and brainwashed. At midnight of July 19, Wang was taken away by the police to Zhongguancun Police Station and detained for two days. When Li was in the Tiananmen Police Substation, he tried to stop a policeman from beating other practitioners, and he was given a severe beating. His family was forced to pay 10,000 Yuan (Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban worker is about 500 Yuan) to the police. Later Li was suspended from his studies by the Academy. Because of the hardships he went through, his mother was on the verge of a mental breakdown. In June 2000, the Party Secretary of his institute personally went to his home and asked him to stop practicing Falun Gong, or he would be unable to continue his study. But Li Xiaodong told the institute officials that he was determined to continue practicing Falun Dafa, and they let him continue with his studies. Before the Chinese National Day of 2000, he was detained by Zhongguancun Police Station for one day. In November, the Academy of Science forcibly sent him to a brainwashing class, but he was able to escape several days later. Then the institute officials used his family in order to trap him, but he resisted the illegal arrest with all of his strength and was severely injured in the process. The police then forced him to leave school and become homeless. In February 2001, he was arrested while sharing his views on cultivation at a fellow practitioner's home. During the Spring Festival in January 2001, she was detained for about 20 days. At the end of 2001, she was unexpectedly taken away from her home and sentenced to two years at a forced labor camp. She was then sent to a forced labor camp in the Hangzhou region. Because she insisted on practicing Falun Gong and refused to be brainwashed, she is currently being detained and tortured in the "strict discipline group." It is said that her physical condition is very poor. Her family was forced to pay very high expenses, around 100 Yuan or more for each day.
