1. Mr. Shi is a 66-year-old retired cadre in Langfang city. On July 20, 1999, Mr. Shi and his family rode bicycles to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. They were arrested on the way and unlawfully detained for a week. During that week, a young policeman slapped his face and kicked him. The policeman's vicious behavior caused a big uproar in the people around and the policeman had to stop the beating. In September 1999, Mr. Shi went to Beijing to appeal again. He was arrested, sent back and illegally detained for more than 20 days.

In September 2000, he was sentenced to three years of "re-education through forced labor" in a labor camp because he was caught clarifying the truth of Falun Dafa to people. The old man had to go on a hunger strike to protest the unlawful sentence against him. Only when he became extremely weak and fainted did the police send him back home to live under surveillance. On December 14, Mr. Shi had to leave his home and stay away [to avoid more harassment from the police] for seven months.

He continued to clarify the truth of Falun Dafa to people wherever he went. Mr. Shi is determined in his belief: to have more people deceived [by Jiang Zemin's regime] know the truth of Falun Dafa and save more predestined people. He was arrested four times. Once the police beat him up and his head and forehead swelled up. It took him several days to recover. Another time, he was distributing Falun Dafa truth-clarifying flyers on the train when the police arrested him and detained him for one day. Mr. Shi faced the police's harassment and detention with his righteous and firm belief in Falun Dafa, and quickly got away from them. In the mid July 2001, Shi went back home to send out some Falun Dafa materials. The Langfang police found him and arrested him. We recently learned that Shi was unlawfully sent to the Wanzhuang Labor Camp in Langfang City, Hebei Province again.

2. Mrs. Zhang is a 64-year-old female in Langfang. She went to Beijing to appeal in November 1999 and was arrested in Tiananmen Square. She was sent back and detained for more than 20 days. During the Chinese New Year of 2000, she went to Tiananmen Square to validate Fa and do Falun Dafa exercises. The police arrested her and sent her to the Shengfang Detention Center in Hebei Province. Because of practicing Falun Dafa in the detention center, ten or so practitioners were handcuffed together. If a practitioner moved a little, the connected handcuffs had the effect of becoming tighter. The handcuffs cut into their flesh and made the practitioners' hands swollen. When the police took off the handcuffs, they were stained with blood.

In October 2000, Mrs. Zhang went to a store to copy Falun Dafa materials and clarify the truth. The police closed down the store and took her away. She was detained for a few days and sent back home to live under surveillance. After some time, the police took her away from home again. Three or four days later Mrs. Zhang, the sixty four year old woman, was unlawfully sentenced to three years in the Hebei No. 1 Labor Camp. In the labor camp, Mrs. Zhang continued to practice Falun Gong and was beaten up by the guards. No matter how hard the guards beat her, kicked or hit her, she persisted in sitting with her legs crossed and did the fifth exercise. Three guards saw their failure to stop her and became so angry that they roared and screamed at her. From then on, if the guards found her practicing Falun Gong, they seldom interfered with her. Later she went on a hunger strike [to protest the illegal sentence] and she was in a critical condition. Three months later, the guards were afraid to take responsibility and asked her family to take her home, but had her live under surveillance.

Finally Mrs. Zhang had to leave her home and stay away for five months. Wherever she went, she validated Fa by clarifying the truth and exposing Jiang Zemin regime's evil deeds toward Falun Dafa and its people. She went through many tribulations during this time. Once she went to a remote mountain village to give out truth- clarifying literature and got caught by the police. After she went on a hunger strike for four days, the police released her.

In the afternoon of August 3, 2001 when she was taking a rest in a simple shed, the police rushed in, arrested her and seized 4000 Yuan (Chinese dollars, the monthly salary for an average worker in Chinese cities is about 500 Yuan) from her along with her belongings. The 13,000 Yuan that a practitioner asked her to take care of was also taken away. Even the items for daily necessities were confiscated. Mrs. Zhang was then sent to a labor camp again.
