Trip to Africa (III) - Namibia

June 17, 2001 |
Written by Practitioners in Australia and Africa

[Minghui Net] Namibia was the second country visited on our trip to Africa. Since we always take Falun Dafa flyers with us, we passed them out on the airplane, in the terminal building at the airport, and on the bus. On our way from the airport to downtown Windhoek, a local resident sat next to me on the bus. He had already heard about Falun Gong, and asked why China's President Jiang Zemin banned it. We were really surprised by the extent to which Falun Dafa had already reached people.

The next day was the start of the weekend. We decided to introduce Dafa in a park in the downtown area. There were many people in the park, and upon seeing us unfold the banners, two people came over to help. While we were demonstrating the Falun Gong exercises, they passed out the flyers. People in the park stopped what they were doing to watch us. Those with predestined relationships were naturally drawn over. Upon seeing us, a lady from the Congo asked to learn the five exercises. Afterwards, she repeatedly said that she would continue learning Falun Dafa, and stated she knew many people who would come to learn. The day we left Namibia, we gave her the book, Zhuan Falun, and the tapes of Falun Gong music. She hugged us gratefully and expressed her wish to see us again in the future.

We also encountered a lady from Australia, who said she had never heard of Falun Gong in Australia, but told us she would definitely learn it. Many African people who were of various backgrounds were interested in knowing about Falun Dafa. Unfortunately, we only had a limited number of books and materials with us, so we told them that more information could be found on the Falun Dafa web site.

What we have done seems very simple, but perhaps it is through this simple way that the seeds of Dafa were planted in the hearts of people. When the time comes, they will be able to attain the Fa. Many homeless Namibian children followed us to do the exercises. We told them that no matter how hard life was, one should try to be a good person, and that one should not do wrong deeds.

We didn't expect to see Chinese people in this country; therefore, it was surprising to see some people from mainland China come over to ask us questions about Falun Gong. There were very few Chinese people here, so they were very friendly when we met on the street. We told them the true stories about Falun Gong and gave them our only two Zhuan Falun books in Chinese. We believe it was a predestined relationship that led us to see them there.

On the third day in Namibia, we went to the President's Office early in the morning to present Falun Dafa books and materials to them. We were received by a spokesman of Foreign Affairs and Public Relations who seemed to already know about Falun Gong. We informed him about the spreading of Falun Dafa in China and explained why Chinese President, Jiang Zemin, started the persecution. It was his first time hearing an account of Falun Gong stories from Dafa practitioners. After the meeting, we went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to see the First Assistant to the foreign minister. He seemed to know something about Falun Gong, too, but not from the side of practitioners. We had a busy schedule and couldn't wait for the replies from the related government offices. So we started back to the hotel after the meeting. On the way, we met an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who showed great interest in the issue. He drove to our hotel at 10:00 p.m. to visit us, and we talked for over two hours discussing issues such as the human rights policy in his country, the influence of Falun Dafa in the world, and the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China. At the end of our meeting, we asked him to convey the following message to the President: Namibia is a democratic country in its development. To respect Human Rights is the essential principle of a democratic country. From the perspective of protecting human rights, we hope that Mr. President would help stop the persecution in China.

Actually many countries and governments, especially small countries like Namibia, don't know the real situation concerning the persecution in China. It is difficult for them to properly judge the issue at the United Nations Human Rights Conference. However, we found the Namibians to possess kindness of heart and a sense of righteousness.

The following day we ended our trip in Namibia and departed. We know that by accepting Falun Dafa in their hearts, the people in Namibia are given new hope, not only for themselves, but also for this ancient land.
