Bi County Detention Center in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, Brutally Tortures Falun Dafa Practitioners

June 12, 2001 |   A practitioner in Mainland China

In Bi County Detention Center in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, I was detained along with over a dozen other Falun Dafa practitioners who went to Beijing to legally appeal. The County held an open trial. We were then handcuffed two by two and paraded through the streets. After we returned to the detention center, when the head of the county police station began a ranting speech that slandered Falun Dafa, a female practitioner immediately interrupted him and proclaimed, "Falun Dafa is the righteous Law. It is not XX." [Jiang Zemin's group's slanderous words omitted] After he heard this, the chief ordered her to be handcuffed and taken to another room. She was forced to lie face down on the ground while the police beat her severely with batons. Afterwards, her buttocks were covered with black and purple bruises. She was so bruised that she couldn't sit down when she returned to her cell. They tortured her until she was on the verge of death; then to escape responsibility, the police sent her to the County Hospital for emergency treatment.

On the second day, in order to prevent us from practicing the Falun Gong exercises, the police cuffed us with steel, pipe-like handcuffs. Our hands and necks had to be kept straight and our feet were locked in shackles that weighed over 10 pounds. We couldn't sleep or take showers, and what was worse, we couldn't even eat by ourselves and had to have others feed us!á

One practitioner and I received the same treatment. The handcuffs I wore were too small for me and within days, my hands were completely swollen. I asked the police chief to give me a bigger pair, but as a prerequisite, he asked me to write a "guarantee letter" [in which the author promises to relinquish his/her faith in Falun Dafa]. I rejected his proposal. Having no humanity left, he forced me to continue wearing the small handcuffs. The other practitioner, who was handcuffed like me, was even forced to lie face down out in the rain. A policeman beat her up with a baton and snarled, "How much do you want me to beat you?" She calmly replied, "I don't care." Her fearlessness enraged the policeman and, in a fit, he savagely beat her up. However, the practitioner just clenched her teeth tightly and took the beating without making the slightest sound. The policeman became increasingly more upset and threatened, "I'll beat you until you scream." But to his surprise, she didn't even murmur a little bit. Finally, her buttocks and thighs drenched with blood, the practitioner continued to lie on the ground for a long time, unable to get up. Later, we were transferred to a labor camp.

In the Nanmusi Female Labor Camp in Zizhong City, Sichuan Province, the guards used every means to torture Falun Dafa practitioners. Every day from 7:30 a.m. until midnight they forced us to either stand against the wall or to sit in a stiff military posture. Some practitioners had to endure the "standing punishment" for over 40 days, during which time they were not allowed to take a single shower. Since it was summertime and very hot, they developed a foul body odor. In order to make us wear name badges, the group leader, Zhang, hit our arms, armpits and breasts with a baton for at least half an hour, until we completely lost consciousness. á

On June 20th, 2000, in order to "reform" Dafa practitioners, the police put all of us in one group and forced us to read Dafa-defaming materials. We protested by practicing the exercises in a group. In turn, the police beat us with their fists, boots, batons, and electric batons. A few even used corrugated steel bars. Due to the harsh beating, some practitioners' skin was torn and their flesh gaped open with pus-filled wounds. Some practitioners were hung with both hands cuffed above their heads and feet barely touching the ground from dawn until dusk. Others were forced to sit in stiff military posture [sit straight without any movement] in the burning sun everyday, causing some practitioners to have a heatstroke and pass out. Whoever made the slightest movement would receive immediate insults and beatings. Practitioners weren't allowed to go to the restroom for a long time. The practitioners who refused to be "reformed" were prohibited from taking showers for as long as two weeks, and were also deprived of the right to meet with our families. All of our most fundamental human rights were stripped away. What was even worse, the guards secretly directed criminals to curse and beat us. The more they cursed and beat us, the more they received rewards or had their sentences reduced.á

Here at the detention center, under the slogan "educate, convert and save," they are actually committing vicious crimes.á
