Chinese president Jiang Zemin recently initiated yet another assault against the Chinese people using the state media, propaganda machinery, administrative means, and financial enforcement measures. He launched the campaign by forcing the republic's citizens to sign his malicious documents that smear Falun Gong. As a matter of fact, his million-signature drive is the most solid and consistent first-hand evidence of Jiang Zemin's human rights violations and his mental and physical abuse of the Chinese people.

Under Jiang's rule, China has no freedom of press, assembly, association, not to mention any freedom of belief and thought. This is already the notorious truth known to the world. In recent years, international justice and human rights organizations have been paying close attention to China. The US government recently decided to condemn China at the UN Human Rights Meeting this March. Similar actions also poured in from other governments. But Jiang Zemin hasn't attempted to correct his mistakes. Instead, he puts all his efforts toward launching the most extensive persecution the country has known. As Amnesty International documented in its report, Jiang Zemin's suppression is a large-scale persecution of the people using his state-run machine.

Elementary students are forced to learn the contents of anti-Falun Gong material. They must follow specifications in answering anti-Falun Gong questions during exams. They will be deprived of their rights to obtain higher education if they do not answer the questions in the entrance exams those schools. Teachers are required to teach such bias, coordinate and play an unwillingly role in Jiang Zemin's campaign of persecution.

Workers and farmers also must participate in Jiang Zemin's persecution directives. Otherwise they will be fined, fired, and even jailed. Officials must take aggressive action; otherwise they will lose their positions and be punished for failing to advance Jiang's policies. Policemen also must follow Jiang Zemin's directives and detain and torture people; otherwise they will not receive a salary bonus and can even be fired from their jobs. Because Jiang Zemin pays their salary, they have to work themselves to the bone for him. The senior officials in the government have to deny any existence of the persecution against Falun Gong, caused by Jiang Zemin's personal jealousy. Otherwise Jiang Zemin will admonish them, and bring trouble for them and their families. The state dares to collectively detain Falun Gong practitioners who work in the central government, send them to Tuanhe [a detention center location] for forceful transformation [to give up their belief] , and torture them. Who can escape these disasters? These are the results of enforcing the large-scale persecution against Falun Gong.

Tens of thousands of practitioners have been detained and tortured. They are persecuted to death, injured, crippled, had their families broken apart, and are shunned in society. The situation in the country is already depressing to look at. Now the persecution has been further extended to all people in the entire country. This is now a spiritual persecution that is more inhumane than a physical persecution. Did the Chinese people choose to sign? Did they choose such an inhumane society? No, Jiang Zemin imposed it. From the information blockade to the ensuing spiritual genocide, from the government's spreading of malicious rumors to the government's plotting fake suicides on Mount Xiang and Tiananmen Square, from large-scale destruction of Falun Gong publications to extensively coercing people to sign petitions against Falung Gong. At any time did the people choose this? Kind-hearted Chinese have said, "I've never spoken badly of people." Did Jiang's policemen ever spare them? NO, NEVER!

The so-called freedom means certain unlimitedness. The nature of matter has determined that nothing can be absolutely free. Its reality specifies its volume and size of existence, the physical space's restriction on it, and its dependency on multiple conditions of existence. A human body is also comprised of matter. Therefore, it is impossible to have freedom in a society such as China. But a human has a spirit too. Physical persecution is ultimately unsuccessful because the physical condition does not confine the spirit that conforms to the condition of freedom. The spirit is completely free and exists beyond space and matter. Why do modern people seek spiritual profoundness? Because it ensures a human being's freedom. This is the reason why a fair society and politics, and humane thoughts and theory never intervene people's spiritual freedom.

In Jiang Zemin's society, he took the human spirit, which is boundless physical matter, under his jurisdiction, and strictly enforced and controlled it as matter that has lost its human nature, as if he was producing a product. Today, he turns you into a signature-signing machine; tomorrow, he turns you into a slogan-shouting machine. After he was defeated in the persecution of the physical bodies of Falun Gong practitioners, he started to mentally torture the population of the entire country. Sadly, this is the only comfort for Jiang's depression from his failure in persecuting Falun Gong. He is trying to claim his revenge on a larger scale, and mentally torture the population of the entire country just so he can enjoy his power.

A shameless person who mounts the emperor's throne will also feel the greatness of the states' power.

Therefore, when one goes to the post office, he has to sign a petition against Falun Gong in order to buy a stamp. When one goes to visit Tiananmen Square, he has to swear at people for Jiang Zemin before he can enter the square. And when one walks on the street, he can be stopped by police and forced to utter some curse words before he can continue walking. [Note: this a current policy so that police can determine who are ordinary citizens and who are Falun Gong practitioners. A Falun Gong practitioner lives their life to the highest moral standard and does not swear.] Those who insist on believing that Falun Gong is good are not able to get approval to be married. Women who don't give up their cultivation in Falun Gong are forced to have abortions so they can be detained in jail longer. If one is a practitioner, their spouse will be forced to divorce them. Just as Jiang Zemin used all the heroes and model citizens of the past to educate the people to be loyal to him, the brutal persecution also uses miserable measures to coerce people into obeying the wishes of corrupted officials or suffer retribution. Some numbed people may not have felt the cruelty of such spiritual persecution. In fact, one can maintain a human's dignity and freedom of spirit while enduring physical pain. But spiritual genocide is the most inhumane and brutal torture, because it deteriorates people soulless beings with no more sense of right.

The campaign for a million signatures is the most powerful evidence in Jiang Zemin's so-called "golden age of human rights", which brutally violates the human rights of the Chinese people. It shows how Jiang Zemin tramples on human dignity and ruins the country's environment while the international society is working hard for fair living conditions. It shows what kind of living hell pitiful China has become and will continue to deteriorate as long as Jiang Zemin's leadership is not changed in the future. It shows that the international condemnation of Jiang Zemin's human rights record is completely correct and timely, and needs to be strengthened even further. The international community should pay a visit to Jiang's society and investigate from objective facts, bring the public to reality, stop their barbarous acts, and educate the world not to follow suit. The million signatures has provided the international community first-hand evidence to denounce Jiang Zemin's human rights record.

As more people sign their names, more will become enslaved by Jiang's tyrannical policies. The broader the scope the signatures have, the broader domain and deeper degree Jiang Zemin's persecution of human rights is exposed. This is an unique opportunity, which shows the hard evidence to the world regarding the present human rights condition in China, and practically shines the light on the Chinese people's current living conditions.

The sages in China and abroad have all said, "If there is no freedom, one would rather die." The living condition of the Chinese people is worse than dying, because although Jiang Zemin permits you to live, he actually enslaves and deprives you of everything you have as a human being.
