Due to government repression of Falun Dafa in China, it is difficult to collect information documenting the abuses. As a result, the material presented here is by no means complete. For each case documented, who knows how many similar cases of abuse remain undiscovered?

Case I

Victim's Personal Information:

Health Condition: Mild neurasthenia before practicing Falun Dafa. Symptoms disappeared after practicing and she became energetic.

Guo Qiang's Story of Being Forced into a Mental Hospital

Leaders in her work unit threatened to fire her because she refused to stop practicing Falun Dafa. Her family members did not understand her either. Since her health condition was significantly improved after cultivation and her neurasthenia was cured without taking any medicine, she explained the nature of Falun Dafa to her family members using the example of her own health improvement. However, in order to force her to give up the practice so she could avoid being persecuted, her family claimed that her neurasthenia could also be cured by taking medicine. They took her to Hefei Psychiatric Hospital. As soon as the doctors in the hospital knew she was a Falun Dafa practitioner, they did not ask any other questions and forced her to stay in the hospital for treatment. Her family agreed, unaware of the hospital staff's real intentions.

Symptoms After Taking Medicines: stomachache, constant vomiting until blood appeared. After she said she couldn't bear it, they changed to another medicine, which the staff claimed to be less strong. However, after taking the new medicine, she felt very tired and listless.

Situation After Leaving Hospital: This practitioner told her family that she couldn't bear the treatment any more, her family then asked the doctors to discharge her from the hospital. She went to Beijing to appeal in July 2000 after she left the hospital. Her work unit asked her family to send her to the mental hospital again and claimed that they could share part of the treatment bill.

Description: Policemen and her work unit forced her to give up practicing Falun Dafa and threatened her family that they could all lose their jobs and be given huge fines if she could not be transformed. Her family members had no choice but to send her to the mental hospital.

Description of Being Sent to Hospital:

Hospitalization Date: May 16, 2000

Location: Hefei No 4 People's Hospital, Anhui province

Responsible Party: Her work unit

Victim's Standpoint: Wants to continue with Falun Dafa; hospitalized against her will.

Condition for release: Give up cultivating Falun Dafa

Description: She went to Beijing to appeal four times. After being sent back from Beijing the last time, she was detained in a "Transformation Class" in Yicheng City. Since she was not "transformed," the leaders in her work unit forced her into the mental hospital.

Course of Hospitalization:

Doctor: Doctor Li, Director Xiang

Diagnostic Process: No examination.

Diagnosis: Normal, but still forced her to be hospitalized.

Treatment: Bound her on the bed and gave injections of tranquillizers. She was forced to take a medicine specifically used for psychosis --- Loxapine.

What are the Medicines Used For: Psychosis

Was the side-effects of the medicines explained: No

Dosage: Two injections of Atropine a day for one week; then taking Loxapine twice a day. If she practiced the Falun Dafa exercises, the doses would be doubled.

Punishment for Refusal of Taking Medicines: Bound on bed and given injections of tranquillizers.

Medicine Name: Loxapine

Symptoms After Taking Medicines: weakness, slow movements, tremulous hands; dull eyes; dizziness. Due to the side effects of the medicines, her whole body became bloated, waistline increased from 2.1 chi (Translator's Note: Length measure used in China, 2.1 chi is equivalent to 28 inches) to 2.6 chi (34 inches). Whole body became deformed.

Situation After Leaving Hospital: This practitioner continues to cultivate Falun Dafa. She went to Beijing to appeal in February 2001, and she is likely to be detained in No 1 Detention Center of Hefei City.

Case V

Occupation: Assistant Professor in Anhui Construction Industry Institute of Technology

Responsible Party: Anhui Female Detention Center

Victim's Standpoint: Wants to continue with Falun Dafa; hospitalized against her will.

Description: She went to Beijing to appeal at the end of December 1999. After being taken back, she was sent to a labor camp, and then transferred to the mental hospital.
