Facts About the Persecution of Dafa Practitioners in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province

Su Junyan, male, in his fifties, a worker at the Yanjiang District's Internal-combustion Engine Factory in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province. In January 2001, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa, but was cruelly tortured for 16 days with over 10 different torture instruments at the Fangshan District Detention Center in Beijing. The wounds and scars all over his body are still visible.

Huang Qifen, female, in her fifties, a member of the clinical staff in Yanjiang District's Internal-combustion Engine Factory Hospital in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province. She has been detained many times. On December 20, 2000 she went to Tiananmen Square to peacefully appeal for her human rights, and suffered all kinds of tortures in Beijing. Her face, breasts, genitals and other body parts were seriously burned and injured from being shocked with electric batons. An associate police department chief kept watch over Huang Qifen, who had fallen unconscious due to the severe burns. When Huang Qifen awoke, he told her that they could only release her if she agreed to tell others that the burns were self-inflicted. After she returned to Ziyang, she would not go outside her home unless she was covered with a cloth since her face and body were horribly burned. The black burns, which had turned into open sores, were repulsive to look at. Later on, the local police arrested and illegally sentenced her to stay in a forced labor camp. She is currently detained at the Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp in Ziyang City.

Liu Yongxiang, female, 50 years old, a worker at Yanjiang District's Internal-combustion Engine Factory in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province. She suffered from lupus erythematosis [a disfiguring disease of the autoimmune system] before practicing Falun Gong and completely recovered after the practice. On December 31, 2000 she went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing to peacefully appeal for Falun Dafa, and was beaten with electric batons at a local police station in Beijing. This abuse caused black and blue-colored bruises and wounds all over her body. They poured boiling water on her head, scalding her, and she immediately lost consciousness. Ms. Liu had been detained three times in Ziyang City and had been on a hunger strike three times during these detentions, each hunger strike lasting over ten days.

Li Zhenghua, female, 46 years old, is a worker in Yanjiang District's Internal-combustion Engine Factory in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province. She was a paralytic patient before practicing Falun Gong, but recovered after the practice. She had been detained three times: in February, May and June of 2000; twice for peaceful appeals at Tiananmen Square and once for doing the exercises in an open area on a hill. She was arrested and detained in Zizhong's Detention Center in August for distributing Falun Gong truth-clarifying literature in the Zizhong area. Authorities at the detention center tortured her brutally, beating her 18 times in a row with a heavy electric baton. The warder only stopped the beating after she became unconscious. Her hip was serious swollen and covered with bruises. Later, people from the Ziyang police department sentenced her to a stay in a forced labor camp. She is now being held in the Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp in the Zizhong area.

Chen Yourong, female, in her forties, a teacher at the primary school attached to Yanjiang District's Internal-combustion Engine Factory in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province. She went before The People's Hall in Beijing twice, to peacefully appeal for Falun Gong, in February and March of 2000. Each time she was arrested and sent back. At the Ziyang Detention Center, guards shocked her hands with electric batons. She was sentenced to one and half years of forced labor camp incarceration by authorities from the Yanjiang District Police Department in Ziyang City. She suffered serious tortures many times in the Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp, and was subjected to forced brainwashing.

Xiao Daibin, male, 30 years old, holder of a Bachelor's degree, an employee of the Internal-combustion Engine Factory. He went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for Falun Dafa in February 2000 and was subsequently detained for half month in Ziyang. In August 2000, he was sentenced to two years in a forced labor camp by persons from the Yanjiang District Police Department for distributing truth-clarifying literature in the Zizhong area. He is now being detained in Mianyang Forced Labor Camp, and made to do intense manual labor, such as carrying bricks on his back each day.

Zhang Lianying, female, 30 years old, an employee of the Internal-combustion Engine Factory. She went to Beijing to appeal in March and June 2000, but was intercepted and sent back each time. On May 12, 2000 she was arrested for doing the exercises in an open field on a hill. Twice, she went on a hunger strike. In December 2000 she was forced to participate in a brainwashing class held by the factory police department and almost lost her life there due to the brutal tortures in that class.

Liu Cuiyu, female, 50 years old, an employee of the Internal-combustion Engine Factory. In early 2000 she went to Beijing to peacefully appeal and was detained locally. After being released, the factory authorities had her forcefully brainwashed. The long-term mental abuse caused her whole body to swell and she became mentally ill. Her current condition has improved after coming back to Dafa.

Wang Maoli, female, in her fifties, a teacher at the middle school affiliated with the Internal-combustion Engine Factory. On December 31, 2000 she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa and was later detained locally for two months forcefully brainwashed.

Chen Ting, male, 20 years old, a worker in the Internal-combustion Engine Factory. In December 2000 he went to Beijing for a peaceful appeal and was locally detained for 2 to 3 months without due process of the law. In July 2001, police officers from the factory's police station and town's police department "110 Division" surrounded his residence. He successfully escaped, but did not take any money with him. He lived in the mountains nearby for more than 20 days, drinking contaminated water, eating rotten beans and vegetables, and suffering from swarms of mosquitoes and other insects. He has been forced to live on the street as a homeless person in order to avoid arrest. His child was only a few months old when he left home.

Yi Xiangang, male, 34 years old, holder of a Bachelor's degree, an employee of the Internal-combustion Engine Factory. In December 2000, he was sentenced to one year of forced labor by authorities from the Yanjiang District Police Department for distributing truth-clarifying flyers. After 5 months of detention, he was escorted back to the factory and placed in a brainwashing class. He did not give in to the pressure and escaped before being sent back to the forced labor camp. Before he left, his two-year-old son embraced his neck tightly for a long time, with tears falling like pearls from a broken necklace.

Fu Lijun, female, 29 years old, an employee of the Internal-combustion Engine Factory. In February 2001 she was arrested for standing up against the persecution. Although the arrest warrant was for a 15-day detention, she was held for 4 months. After being released, she was forced to participate in a brainwashing class. She was firm and determined in her belief. The factory authorities forced her to work without pay. Her husband Yi Xiangang's salary was also suspended. The whole family of six is living on the pension of her father, who is paralyzed.

Yang Tonglong, male, 30 years old, holder of a Bachelor's degree, a teacher in the Technical School of the Internal-combustion Engine Factory. He was sentenced to one year of forced labor for distributing Falun Gong truth-clarifying literature. He was illegally detained for half a year, but he refused to give in, and has been forced to leave his home to avoid arrest.

Chen Zhigang, male, 58 years old, a senior engineer of the Internal-combustion Engine Factory. He was detained for 5 months without cause. His wife, Zhao Xinru, was detained for 5 months with him, beginning in December 2000. They are now being monitored closely and are forced to take brainwashing classes.

Li Wenbin, male, in his thirties, an army veteran and employee of a cigarette factory. In March 2000 he went to appeal outside the city hall and was arrested by authorities from the Yanjiang District Police Department in Ziyang. The district court sentenced him to 3 years in jail. He was detained for half a year in Ziyang Detention Center and was then sent to Deyang Forced Labor Camp where he suffered serious tortures for 20 days, resulting in 3 broken ribs.

Li Shaobin, male, 30 years old, an employee of the Erpu Company. He went to Beijing to peacefully appeal in March 2000, was arrested and sentenced to 3 years by officers from the Yanjiang District Police Department and was sent to Deyang Forced Labor Camp, where he was viciously beaten for 16 days, in order to force him to write a "guarantee statement" [promising not to practice Falun Gong].

He Zhenyue, male, 35 years old, holder of a Bachelor's degree, an engineer and team leader of the Xinxing Oil Company. At the end of 1999 he was detained for 15 days by personnel from the Yanjiang Police Department for doing Falun Dafa exercises in front of the train station. In February of 2000 he was detained for 4 days by authorities from the Chengxi Police Station and "fined" 3,000 Yuan [Note: the monthly wage of an average urban worker in China is 500 Yuan] for refusing to write a "guarantee statement." In June of 2000 he went to Beijing to peacefully appeal and was detained by officers from the Ziyang Police Department. He was released after he went on an 8-day hunger strike to protest against the illegal detention. On July 18, 2000, police tricked him into going to the Chengxi Police Station under the guise of "inviting him there for a talk." After being kept for two days, they sent him to a detention center for 15 days. Then he was illegally sentenced for one and half years of forced labor. He became very weak, due to the mental and physical abuse and was permitted to seek medical treatment outside the labor camp. He was released after being fined 3,000 Yuan. In November of 2001, he left his home to escape the constant harassment and threats by his employer and officers from the Chengxi Police Station.

Zhao Surong, female, 59 years old, a family member of an employee of Yanjiang District's Candy Factory. She had suffered from breast cancer and stomach cancer before practicing Falun Gong, and recovered after beginning the practice. In April of 2000 she went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for justice, and was detained for 15 days by Yanjiang's District Police Department persons. She was also fined 8,000 Yuan. In June of 2000 she was detained for 30 days, for sharing experiences with other practitioners. In October of 2000 she was suspected of distributing Falun Gong truth-clarifying literature. Yanjiang District's Police Department authorities sentenced her in absentia to one-and-a-half years of forced labor. On December 20, 2000 she was arrested from another practitioner's home. After being held for two months, she was sent to the Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp in the Zizhong area in February of 2001.

Yang Yongjiu, male, 62 years old, a resident of Shiling Town, Yanjiang District. He had high blood pressure, coronary heart disease and diabetes before practicing Falun Gong and recovered after taking up the practice. At the end of January 2000 he was arrested and detained for 15 days by officers from the Yanjiang District Police Department for going to Beijing to peacefully appeal. On May 12, 2000 he was illegally detained for a month for practicing Falun Gong on a remote hill. On December 24, 2000 he went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing to appeal and was arrested by authorities from the Yanjiang Police Department. He has been illegally held in the Ziyang Detention Center to this day, and was told he would be subjected to indefinite detention with no release and no sentence [if he does not give up Falun Gong].

Liu Shufen, female, 60 years old, a resident of Shiling Town, Yanjiang District. She is the spouse of Yang Yongjiu. In January 2000 she went to Beijing to appeal for justice and was unlawfully detained for 15 days by officers from the Yanjiang Police Department. She was again detained for 15 days on May 12, 2000 for doing Falun Gong exercises in an open field on a remote hill. On December 24, 2000 she went to Tiananmen Square for a peaceful appeal. She was detained in a jail in Beijing and later released after a hunger strike. She has been forced to leave her home.

Yang Changwen, male, in his thirties, a resident of Shiling Town in Yanjiang District. He is the second son of Yang Yongjiu. In February 2000 he went to Beijing to appeal and was arrested and unlawfully detained for half a month by people from the Yanjiang District Police Department. He was fined 2,000 Yuan. Since his release, people from the local police station and police department constantly harass him.

Wu Suying, female, 60 years old, a resident of Dabei Street in Yanjiang District, Ziyang City. She was arrested and detained twice in 2000. Later she was detained for 8 months, was sentenced to 18 months of forced labor and fined 4,000 Yuan. As a result, her family was torn apart and she has been forced to stay away from her home.

Yu Chaoting and his wife, both 60 years old, are physicians who own a clinic next to Yanjiang District's People's Hospital. They both went to Beijing in March of 2000 to make a peaceful appeal and were arrested by personnel from the Yanjiang District Police Department. The wife was detained and fined a large amount of money. They were arrested again in June of 2000 when sharing experiences with other practitioners. They are now under close supervision.

Li Guirong, female, 55 years old, a retired worker from Yanjiang District's Baolian Wine Factory. She has been detained three times and fined 8,000 Yuan. She suffered many kinds of diseases in the past, and had often coughed up blood. She recovered after practicing Falun Gong. At the end of December 2000 she was abducted and sent to the detention center for forced brainwashing by officers from the Yanjiang District Police Department.

Yang Shengmin, female, 30 years old, an employee of a pharmaceutical company. Her employer fired her for going to Beijing for a peaceful appeal in December 2000. Her mother, Mrs. Liu, was detained twice. She was abducted and taken to a detention center by 4 police officers from the Yanjiang District Police Department at the end of December 2000. The amount of fines she had to pay is unknown.

Fu Tianling, female, in her forties, a medical doctor at the Internal-combustion Engine Factory Hospital. She has been arrested twice for appealing for Falun Dafa and is now being held in the Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp in the Zizhong area.

Xie Hongmei, male, in his thirties, an employee of the Erpu Company. He went to Beijing to appeal for justice and was detained for several months at the Yanjiang District Police Department. His mother, a non-practitioner, suffered extreme mental pressure due to his arrest. Eventually she was driven to mental illness and committed suicide by jumping out of a building.

Li Zhengrui, female, in her fifties, the owner of a street stand in front of Yanjiang District's Ximen Bridge. She went to Beijing to peacefully appeal twice, in March and December of 2000 and was detained twice in the Yanjiang District for two weeks the first time and three months the second time. She was sentenced to one year of forced labor. The amount of the fine she had to pay is unclear, but it was said to be more than 4,000 Yuan.

Hong Xianhui, female, in her fifties, a retired teacher of Chahua Town's Primary School in the Yanjiang District. She was detained for 6 months for gathering with other practitioners. The amount of the fine she had to pay is unknown. She has been under close scrutiny and harassment for a long time.
