Cao Xifeng, male, 46 years old. On November 16, 2000, Cao went to Beijing to make appeals to the government and to validate Dafa. Police arrested him on Tiananmen Square. When he was illegally detained at Wuchang City's Liaison Office in Beijing, police did a body search and took 100 Yuan from him (Note: the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban laborer is about 500 Yuan). Later, he was detained by the Wuchang City Public Security Bureau, and released after he went on hunger strike. In January of 2001, 1,000 Yuan was extorted from him by the Chief of the Niujia Police Branch, and then 1,230 Yuan by Liu Fang, head of the Wuchang City Public Security Bureau.

Cao Xuewen, male, 49 years old. On November 16, 2000, Cao went to Beijing to validate Dafa, but police illegally arrested him on Tiananmen. He was kept in custody in Harbin City's Beijing office and later transferred to Wuchang City's Liaison Office where the only money he had, 82 Yuan, was taken from him after a body search. On November 19, 2000, he was escorted back to Wuchang City and illegally detained for 45 days. He started a hunger strike to demand his unconditional release. Cao was finally released after a family member agreed to be his guarantor. On November 25, 2000, the head of the Niujia Police Branch extorted 1,000 Yuan from Cao. On April 11, 2001, he was forced and tricked by the Wuchang "610 Office" (a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches) into attending a brainwashing class. On April 11, in the name of room and board expenses, Liu Xiaoling from Wuchang City's "610 Office" took another 330 Yuan from him, and Wu Hongzhang from Jinshan Detention Branch took 460 Yuan from him prior to his release. After that, Cao realized the gravity of having renounced his beliefs, so he wrote a public "solemn statement" to vow to continue practicing Dafa. Cao was arrested four times by the Niujia Police Branch. As a result, he was forced to leave home for half a year to avoid more illegal arrests.

Jin Changxin, male, 37 years old. On November 16, 2000, he went to Beijing to make appeals and validate Dafa, but was arrested on Tiananmen by police. When he was illegally detained at Wuchang City's Liaison Office in Beijing, he had 240 Yuan taken after a body search. In January of 2001, he was escorted back to Wuchang City, where 1,000 Yuan was extorted from him by the head of the Niujia Police Branch. Liu Fang of the Wuchang City Public Security Bureau also took 1,230 Yuan from Jin.

Cheng Jing, female, 53 years old. On November 16, 2000, she went to Beijing to make appeals for Dafa, but was arrested on Tiananmen by police. When she was illegally detained at Wuchang City's Liaison Office in Beijing, and 150 Yuan was confiscated during an illegal body search. Later, Jing was detained at the Wuchang City Public Security Bureau, and she was never told how long they planned to detain her. However, she was released after a 13-day hunger strike. On November 22, 2000, Jinshan Detention Branch forced her to pay 230 Yuan for her meals. On February 7, 2001, for no apparent reason, the head of the Niujia Police Branch detained her for 107 days in the Wuchang Detention Center. On May 23, 2001, Liu Fang, who works at the Wuchang City Public Security Bureau and the Wuchang City "610 Office," extorted 270 Yuan from her.

Ao Rongxue, male, 45 years old. Ao was detained for 24 hours from July 22 to 23, 1999 for making appeals to the provincial government for Falun Dafa. On November 17, 2000, he went to Beijing to make appeals and validate Dafa, but was illegally arrested and escorted back to Wuchang City, where he was detained for 45 days. During this period of time, Liu Fang of the Wuchang City Public Security Bureau extorted 1,400 Yuan from him. On December 23 of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, 2000 (1/17/2001) he was illegally detained for four days by the Hongqi Township local police and township officials. Ao was tortured and his home was ransacked. He also had 1,500 Yuan taken by Yang Chunguang of the Hongqi Township government.

Qiao Lihua, female, 34 years old. After July 20, 1999, local government officials illegally seized all of her Dafa books. On November 15, 2000, she went to Beijing to make appeals and validate Dafa, but was arrested and detained for 16 days. The local police extorted 2,000 Yuan from her and 1,000 Yuan from her family before she was released.

Zhang Yanchao, male, 35 years old. On November 13, 2000, Zhang validated Dafa in Beijing, after which 200 Yuan was extorted from him. Later, he was arrested and detained for 36 days by the Lalin Township police in Wuchang City. The Wuchang City Public Security Bureau took 1,400 Yuan from Zhang. Police of Lalin Township and local officials constantly harassed him and interfered with his daily life.
