My Understanding of Non-Omission

November 28, 2001 |   By a practitioner in China

(Clearwisdom.net)

I decided to write on the topic of "Non-Omission" because I observed that, like some fellow practitioners, I would from time to time fall into a valley in the course of my cultivation, after which I would ascend to a higher realm where my mental state would become stable and proper again. This roller-coaster situation would repeat itself each time before I would elevate to the next higher realm. For individual cultivation, taking such a path is not inappropriate; however, during the current situation it seems to have serious loopholes. The evil forces seize upon even our tiniest attachments to augment them, to expand on them and to exploit them, and much valuable time is wasted before we awaken to what is happening. We do less or even botch up our efforts to clarify the truth, we have less pure mental states when we send forth our righteous thoughts, and our concentration wanders when we study the Fa and do the exercises. Being in this state of depression is both to indulge and to condone the evil old forces. Worse, it is a manifestation of a less-than-solemn attitude towards the Fa, and a lack of assimilation to the Fa.

Non-omission as we refer to it here carries very, very serious and grave implications. The frenzied evil old forces will take advantage of any weakness to infiltrate. Any kind of omission might inhibit us from reaching the state of indomitable solidity, and prevent us from becoming pure Dafa particles. A Fa-rectifying deity is both solemn and dignified and he will rectify all that is non-righteous. "The mighty virtue is majestic and everlasting." ("Towards Consummation") It is time to eradicate all loopholes that nurture evil. "Cultivation practice takes time, but you should not slack off. You may say: 'Teacher has said that cultivation practice takes time -- let's do it slowly.' That will not do! You must be strict with yourself. In cultivation of the Buddha Fa, you should strive forward vigorously." ("Zhuan Falun" page 213) We should be stricter with ourselves and eliminate all attachments and bad notions at their early stage. We must constantly measure our conduct with the standard set forth by the Fa, and eradicate any deviation without hesitation with our righteous thoughts. The mind of an enlightened being is tranquil like the still water in a pond; it does not have any ripples, let alone any omissions. "Non-omission is the true essence of emptiness." ("What is Emptiness?") As Dafa practitioners, we carry with us a mission of historical significance, one which concerns all sentient beings in this universe. Our all-encompassing unification without weakness and diamond-like fusion without omission will signify the end of the evil old forces and the birth of enlightened beings.

"If every one of you can understand the Fa from the depths of your mind, that will truly be the manifestation of the Fa whose power knows no boundary--the reappearance of the mighty Buddha Fa in the human world!" ("Cautionary Advice")

The above is my personal understanding. My fellow practitioners, please kindly correct any inappropriate expressions.
