Western Practitioners and a "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance" Banner in Tiananmen Square

Download High Resolution Photo

On November 20, 2001, three dozen Western Falun Gong practitioners from over ten countries arrived in Tiananmen Square in Beijing. They unfurled a huge banner reading, "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" to show the Chinese government, all people in China and around the world the truth of Falun Gong. (Above is a group photo of the Western practitioners sending forth righteous thoughts in Tiananmen Square)

Facing these peaceful and serene Western Falun Gong practitioners, Chinese police did not dare to kick and punch them in public, as they would normally treat Chinese citizens. They also knew that they should not treat Westerners as the target for applying their most base means. However, the police are too well studied when it comes to employing violence and humiliation against others. The pictures above were recorded at the moment when the banner with the words, "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" was torn by the police.

Reports of Two More Dead For Practicing Falun Gong In China

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 11/22/2001 [ http://www.faluninfo.net/ ]

NEW YORK, November 22, 2001 (Falun Dafa Information Center) - Chinese officials have confirmed the death of one man and refused to provide any information regarding a second in the latest reports of Falun Gong practitioners being killed in China for peacefully practicing their beliefs. Both victims were detained for practicing Falun Gong and died while in police custody.

Tortured to Death by his Captors After Arrest

Mr. Zhanrui Wu was a volunteer coordinator for the Falun Gong practice in Fushun City. According to sources inside China, Mr. Wu was taken into custody on July 20, 1999 and died shortly afterward. While Chinese state-run newspapers had reported that Mr. Wu had committed suicide, these sources reveal that Mr. Wu was actually tortured to death in an attempt by his captors to force him to renounce Falun Gong. Because he refused, his captors tortured him, broke his ribs, and eventually killed him.

An official with the Fushun City Public Security Department confirmed Mr. Wu's death.

The death of Mr. Wu fits a disturbing pattern that began two days before the official ban of Falun Gong on July 22, 1999. In the early morning hours of July 20, 1999, Falun Gong volunteers throughout the country were taken from their homes and detained. These individuals were then subjected to severe torture and brainwashing techniques in an effort to get them to publicly make statements against Falun Gong and its founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi. Many believe this policy was an attempt to shake the resolve of other practitioners, who numbered in the tens of millions, by broadcasting footage of the volunteers denouncing the practice. Like Mr. Wu, some of the volunteers who refused to denounce Falun Gong were eventually killed.

Due to tight control by Jiang Zemin's regime over the information regarding Falun Gong practitioners being killed in custody, the details of Mr. Wu's case have only now been uncovered.

Chinese Air Force Hospital Could Not Counter Labor Camp's Abuse

More recently, Mr. Yongshun Shan, 40 years old, was illegally detained in the Zhengzhou City Baimiao Labor Camp before he was tortured to death, according to sources inside China. On October 19th 2001, he was sent to the Zhengzhou Air Force Hospital when he was "on the verge of death," these sources say. Despite an emergency rescue effort, Mr. Shan died from his injuries incurred while in custody.

One reporter who spoke with a woman at the Zhengzhou City Baimiao Labor Camp asked about Mr. Shan's case three times after which he was told, "If you want to learn the details, you need to come here and bring an introduction letter with you. That's the regulation here."

Falun Dafa Information Center spokesperson Adam Montanaro commented on these cases: "These deaths are the direct result of Jiang Zemin's policy of state terrorism towards Falun Gong. This cannot and must not go on." Mr. Montanaro continued, "As we all saw from the western demonstrators on Tiananmen Square yesterday, despite the efforts of Jiang's regime to hide the facts, the world is becoming aware of these atrocious acts. China has a rich and profound culture, but for China as a nation to participate in the global community with any sense of dignity, the suppression of Falun Gong must end, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice."

The Falun Dafa Information Center has confirmed the deaths of 314 Falun Gong practitioners who died due to brutality in custody since Chinese President Jiang Zemin banned Falun Gong in July, 1999. Government officials inside China, however, report that the actual death toll is well over 1,000. Over 100,000 have been detained, with many of them being sentenced to forced labor camps with no trial.

Western Practitioners Who Appealed in Tiananmen Square

Clearwisdom's Interview with John Nania, an American Practitioner Who Just Returned to Minnesota After Appealing in Beijing

Clearwisdom: Welcome back, John. Great job done.

John: Thank you. A lot of other people did a great job.

Clearwisdom: When were you released? What charge(s) did the Chinese police make against you?

I was released at the door of the airplane right before I boarded.

From when I was arrested at Tiananmen Square to when I was released at 9:30am Wed., the 21st by Beijing time, I was detained for a total of 19 hours. I had some policemen watching me all the time. Even when we went to the bathroom, we had to keep the door open.

When they let me board the plane, they told me I was not allowed to enter China for 5 years.

They didn't let us know what charges were made against us. They didn't say anything and gave us no paper stating anything.

Clearwisdom: Where were you detained? How did the police treat you?

John: We were detained at a police station near Tiananmen Square for 4-5 hours. Then they took us to a hotel near the airport. We were divided into two groups and placed in two conference rooms. They questioned us one by one while others were in the same room.

I was questioned probably longer than others, for about an hour. The ones that questioned me were not rude to me, but some other practitioners were not treated the same.

We were not allowed to make phone calls at any time. We were not allowed to contact the U.S. embassy.

Clearwisdom: John, why did you decide to go to China and Tiananmen Square in particular?

John: I wanted to let the Chinese people and the government know that Falun Gong has broad international support, and let the people in the world know that Falun Gong is good. Also, we wanted to provide support and encouragement to the practitioners within China.

Tiananmen is a natural place to go because that's the symbolic center of China and that's where other practitioners have appealed before.

Clearwisdom: You were 30 some practitioners from 12 different countries and from all walks of life such as a CEO, engineer, students and a housewife, and you knew no practitioners in China. Why did you have a strong feeling about the persecution in China and took the risk to go to China to appeal?

John: Because we understood the great benefit of Falun Dafa. We know "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance" are important to all humanity. Also, because we practitioners inside and outside China are one body. No matter where we are, all practitioners must do whatever we can to clarify the truth. And this is something Western practitioners can do.

Clearwisdom: How did you feel before going to Tiananmen Square, at the Square, and after being detained?

John: Before going to the Square, while I felt a bit nervous, I felt more of positive things and I was absolutely sure I was doing the right thing, the righteous thing.

At Tiananmen Square, once we sat down, I concentrated on sending righteous thoughts. We had only several seconds before we knew the police came. But I was concentrating on sending righteous thoughts, even when they dragged me into the police van.

Afterwards, as we practitioners always do, I reflected a lot to see if everything we did during the whole process was up to a practitioner's standard. Although there was no doubt that we were absolutely doing the right thing, yet we still found many different attachments and weaknesses that we had.

Clearwisdom: After visiting China, in particular after this experience at the Tiananmen Square,

what are your new understandings about Fa rectification? You got a taste of what practitioners in China have been experiencing?

John: Yes, I've got a lot of new understanding. Definitely a lot. I need a few days to reflect to organize my thoughts. I'll write for Clearwisdom later.

The police that we encountered are not the center of the evil forces. A lot of them know the truth at some level. What we experienced definitely can't be compared to what our Chinese practitioners have experienced [and are continuing to experience.] The biggest factor is that we're Westerners and the police knew they had to be very careful with us.

Clearwisdom: Anything you want to share with Western practitioners outside China in particular?

John: Yes, our responsibilities as Western practitioners include doing anything we can to expose the evil and remove the poisons from the minds of the Chinese people. There are many things that we Western practitioners can do, but Chinese practitioners cannot. We Westerners should look for all opportunities to do those things.

Clearwisdom: Thank you very much, John. I'm very glad you got back safely and look forward to seeing your article sharing your experiences in Beijing.

John: Sure. My pleasure.

Press Statement by Midwest Practitioners on John Nania's Return from China

Wednesday, November 21, 2001

We gather here today to welcome John Nania, back to Minneapolis, to celebrate his safe return home, and to reflect on why John had to go to China, and why everyone of us should be grateful that he made that journey.

As you know, John is one of 35 Falun Gong practitioners from ten countries around the world who decided to pay a visit to Tiananmen Square. There, a few of them unfurled a banner written with the words "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance," and the rest peacefully meditated. For this, John and the others were arrested and thrown in a Beijing jail.

The arrest of John Nania reveals for the entire world to see, the terror that Jiang Zemin, the president of China, has unleashed on the people of China. What John did is no different than what millions of Chinese practitioners of Falun Gong do every day, and what has happened to John is part of the price they have had to pay for over two years and four months for sticking to their principles. In the China of Jiang Zemin the simple act of meditation can not only get one arrested, it can get one beaten, brainwashed, tortured, raped, and killed. Hundreds of practitioners have died as a result of this terror. Hundreds of thousands of practitioners are being held in detention, jail, mental hospitals or labor camps.

The principles that John and the tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners in China abide by are Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance. John's peaceful act of civil disobedience in Beijing affirmed these principles and embodied them. In this simple act, John demonstrated a heart of great kindness, showing his concern for the practitioners of China who are facing daily persecution, and for the people of the world, in trying to let them know the truth about Falun Gong and its persecution in China. He and the 34 others who made this trip did so because they want the people of China and the people of the world to understand one simple fact. The persecution of Falun Gong in China is not a "Chinese" issue; it is a human issue. These 35 were there in Tiananmen Square to let the Chinese government and the Chinese people know the world cannot rest while good, and kind people are persecuted for being good and kind.

Here in Minnesota we know something about being kind. We joke about "Minnesota nice," but we are able to joke in this way because we are basically a kind-hearted people. We also know something about sticking by our principles, and our principles do not allow us to abide what is going on in China. Today we call on all the kind-hearted people of Minnesota to join together and let the government of Jiang Zemin know that John's trip of kindness to China will not be forgotten. We all now join with John in demanding the end to the persecution of Falun Gong. And while we give thanks for his safe return, we look forward to a Thanksgiving Day on which trips such as his will no longer be needed.

An American Falun Dafa Practitioner from Minnesota: Statement Regarding My Trip to Beijing

I will be spending the week before Thanksgiving in Beijing, China. I will do some sightseeing and try to learn a little Chinese while I'm there, but the main purpose of going is to gather one afternoon with several other Falun Gong practitioners from a number of Western nations. We will assemble and silently hold up a banner that reads, in English and Chinese, "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance."

The persecution campaign in China against Falun Gong is one of the most comprehensive and brutal such campaigns organized by a government against its own people in world history. Before this campaign began in 1999, the government estimated that 70-90 million people from all segments of society practiced Falun Gong. The government's propaganda, punishments, and torture since July 1999, have directly affected those tens of millions of people. They have indirectly touched the lives of most people in society, whether they are family members, co-workers, and friends of practitioners, or just people who watch TV or read newspapers and are subject to the barrage of distortions and lies that the state-controlled media publishes about Falun Gong.

At least 307 people are verified to have died as a result of torture while in custody, but a source there in the government says it's actually well over 1,000 who have died. These are people who are uniformly non-violent and courageous in maintaining their principles.

This campaign has also spread to the US and other countries. I was at a speech by the Chinese ambassador last year when he disparaged Falun Gong here in Minneapolis. Practitioners in San Francisco and Chicago have been beaten up in public places. The mother of a graduate student at the University of Minnesota is serving time in a labor camp in China because she had flyers in their family home, and his phone conversations with his father are monitored. There is plenty of poisonous propaganda in the Chinese-language media in the US, and some of it spills over into the English-language media.

Beyond these effects, the government of the most populous nation in the world is taking a high-profile stand against the universal principles of Truth-Compassion-Tolerance. This is bad for everyone in China, and bad for everyone everywhere.

This journey to Beijing is undertaken by a number of responsible individuals of conscience. Each of us has to ask ourselves: Why are we doing it, why are we traveling to the heart of China to make this quiet, peaceful statement that we hope will spark some change?

Here are some of the reasons I'm doing this:

* For the millions of practitioners in China who have endured much, to encourage and support them, to give them hope

* For all the people of China, to let them know that Falun Gong practitioners are good people from many countries and that the international community recognizes Falun Gong as good

* For the good people in the government of China, and for the good part inside every person in the government, to help them to wake up to the peacefulness and the righteousness of Falun Gong, and to give them the opportunity to change their hearts

* For all the people of the world, to let them know that Truth-Compassion-Tolerance is the highest, noblest, and most unshakable principle of the universe

All of us who are going understand clearly the situation in China and what some people there might think about our event--some will not welcome it.

My reply to any concerns is that I fully expect to be back home for Thanksgiving. I believe that we are taking a message of goodness to China, a message that is necessary to be seen there, and that what is in our hearts will be the most important thing during our visit there.

Australian Practitioners Arrived Back Home

Australian Practitioners, Kate Douglas, Kay Belonogoff and Myrna Mack returned back to Sydney after joining a group of 35 practitioners from 12 countries on 20 November 2001 in peaceful demonstration in Tiananmen Square on behalf of all Falun Gong Practitioners persecuted in China. Media Advisory: Falun Gong Prisoner to be Released Today by China

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, November 21st, 2001

á

OTTAWA -- Lanark-Carleton MP Scott Reid welcomed reports that jailed Canadian citizen Zenon Dolnyckyj is to be freed by Chinese authorities and returned to Canada later tonight.

International media reports surfaced yesterday morning, announcing the arrest of Dolnyckyj, a Toronto resident and Falun Gong supporter. He was detained yesterday in Tiananmen Square, while taking part in a peaceful demonstration against Chinese persecution of the spiritual movement. There was also word that he had been mistreated by police.

"I have received reports of Zenon's imminent release from my friends at the Falun Dafa Association of Canada. These reports are unofficial, but appear to be accurate," said Reid. "I know Zenon personally through our work together in raising awareness of religious persecution in China. He is a kind man and a devoted advocate of freedom of conscience. I was deeply troubled to hear of his arrest yesterday, and am relieved that he is coming home."

Dolnyckyj is reportedly scheduled for expulsion by China later today, with a five-year entry ban to the country. Two other Canadians remain under arrest in China for practicing Falun Gong. Shenli Lin, who is married to a Canadian citizen, has been detained since January 2000. Lizhe He, a Canadian landed immigrant, has been held by Chinese authorities since July of this year. Both were arrested for raising awareness of Falun Gong and resisting state propaganda demonizing the movement.

"I again call upon Prime Minister Chrétien to use his office as well as his international reputation as Dean of the G7 to stand up in defense of freedom of statement and freedom of conscience, and to appeal to the government of China for the release of these Canadian prisoners of conscience," concluded Reid.

Swedish Practitioners Arrested in Tiananmen Square, Other Practitioners Hold Press Conference in Stockholm

At 1 p.m. of November 20, several major Sweden media came to the practice site at the center of Stockholm to interview practitioners about arrested Swedish practitioners in China. The local Practitioners clarified the truth of Falun Gong to reporters. A Western practitioner read out an open letter stating that these practitioners went to China to call on Chinese government to stop the persecution against Falun Gong and stop killing innocent Falun Gong practitioners. The TV 1 and TV 4 stations invited the practitioners to their stations to speak out the truth of Falun Gong and the recent development of persecution in China.

Swedish Practitioners Attend Governing Party's Annual Meeting; Deputy Prime Minister Reiterates Condemnation of the Persecution of Falun Gong

(Clearwisdom Net) From November 8 through November 10, 2001, the Swedish governing party, the Social Democratic Party, held its annual meeting in Vasteras. Major leaders from other parties and many Social Democratic Party figures gathered there. The ballroom on the first floor of the conference hall was set up for the relevant activities.

At the invitation of the host, Falun Gong practitioners participated in the meeting. On the first day, the practitioners gave a demonstration of Falun Gong exercises and clarified the truth about the severe persecution of Falun Gong in China on two different large stages at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. Along with the graceful and harmonious melody, over a dozen practitioners peacefully presented Falun Gong exercises and embodied Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance to the government officials and guests. The people around the stage watched the demonstration and carefully read the materials given to them. Two of the practitioners spoke out on a microphone about what happened in China during the past two years and read a petition to the visiting body.

Swedish Vice Prime Minister Lena Hjelm Wallen, kindly stepped onto the stage and solemnly took the petition, then made a public statement, "It is not the first time that we have received a petition about Falun Gong. The persecution of Falun Gong is just one of the violations of human rights in China. The Swedish government has been approached more than once on the issue of the Chinese Government on different occasions. Your petition will allow us to place more emphasis on the seriousness of this issue!"

Her speech drew warm applause from the audience. We heard the voice from the hearts of the people. After the demonstration, the host presented flowers to all practitioners and said cordially, "Thanks to all of you!"

(Clearwisdom.net) The Annual Human Rights Dialogue between China and the U.K. was held in London from November 19 to 21. The European Friends of Falun Gong Association recently wrote a letter to U.K. Prime Minister, Mr. Blair, expressing its concern over the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China and the recent situation of Zhao Ming, a graduate student at Trinity College Dublin. Because Zhao Ming refused to give up his belief in Falun Gong, his detention term has been extended to March 2002. In the letter, the Falun Gong Association also stated that the persecution of Falun Gong is actually state-run terrorism and it calls on the U.K. government to urge Jiang's regime to stop the persecution.

In his letter of reply, Mr. Blair wrote, "...thank you for your recent letter, ...will take careful note of what you say... [I have] asked that your letter be passed to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office who have responsibility for this subject so that they, too, are aware of your concerns and can send you any comments they may have direct."

Washington Post: China Arrests Foreigners at Rally, Group Protests Violence Against Falun Gong

Nov 21, 2001
From Reuters at 6:54 AM

BEIJING--China expelled foreign followers of the banned Falun Gong spiritual movement on Wednesday, a day after they unfurled a banner on Tiananmen Square in a protest against Beijing's [persecution] on Chinese believers.

Seven Swedish members of a group of 35 protesters were put aboard a flight for Stockholm, Sweden's Ambassador Kjell Anneling told Reuters.

The U.S. embassy confirmed that six Americans detained after the demonstration were expelled and a Swiss embassy spokesman said three Swiss citizens and one Spanish national with Swiss residence were also kicked out.

Australians, Canadians, French and Germans--all part of the multinational protest group--were either expelled or on their way out, according to diplomatic sources. By Philip P. Pan Washington Post Foreign Service Wednesday, November 21, 2001; Page A19

BEIJING, Nov. 20 -- Chinese police detained about 35 foreigners who unfurled a banner in Tiananmen Square today to protest the government's violent [persecution] on the banned Falun Gong spiritual movement. Police repeatedly kicked and hit at least one protester after forcing him into a van.

The demonstrators, including American, European and Australian members of the group, posed as tourists milling about the square before gathering [...]

Some held up a large yellow banner emblazoned with the words "Truth, Benevolence, Forbearance," the Falun Gong [principle], while others sat in the lotus position, shut their eyes and pressed their hands together [...].

Despite frequent international criticism of China's human rights record, foreigners rarely attempt to stage protests on Chinese soil, much less in Tiananmen, the country's political heart. Similar protests by Chinese members of Falun Gong occurred almost daily less than a year ago, but a state campaign of torture and intimidation has made such demonstrations increasingly uncommon.

Seconds after the foreigners converged, police vans surrounded the group and officers began forcing them inside, dragging several along the pavement and roughly lifting others off the ground. Three officers chased and tackled one demonstrator, who had broken free and run toward a crowd of Chinese onlookers while shouting, in Chinese, "Falun Gong is good!"

At least one police officer punched a protester repeatedly in his back as he forced him into a van. The officer could be seen continuing to pummel and kick the man before the van drove away. But police used less force than they have against Chinese members of the Buddhist-like group, refraining from drawing their batons, for example.

[...] Falun Gong says more than 50,000 believers have been sent to prisons, labor camps and mental hospitals, and about 300 have died in custody.

"We are here to appeal on behalf of tens of thousands of innocent people who suffer imprisonment, torture or even death at the hands of their own government in China," said a statement from the protesters issued by Falun Gong organizers based in the United States, who notified a few Western reporters in advance about the protest. "And we are here to appeal to China's leaders and to seek an end to the violence and terror they have waged against Falun Gong for 2 1/2 years."

China's state-run media said the protesters had been ordered to leave the country, but it was not known if they remained in police custody tonight.

[...]

It was unclear what impact, if any, the protest might have on the Chinese public, [...]

Some Chinese bystanders in Tiananmen today [...] expressed bewilderment. "Foreigners believe in Falun Gong too?" one asked.

Toronto Star Online: China expels Canadian, Western protesters

November 21, 2001

BEIJING (AP-CP) - China has swiftly expelled almost three dozen Westerners - including two Canadians - who protested in the heart of Beijing against the government's repression of the Falun Gong spiritual movement.

By Wednesday evening, little more than 24 hours after they chanted, sat cross-legged and unveiled a banner on Tiananmen Square, all 35 protesters had been forced to leave the country, China's official Xinhua News Agency said.

Canadian detainee Zenon Dolnyckyj, 23, of Toronto was headed home Wednesday. During a brief stopover in Vancouver, Dolnyckyj said he was beaten and made to "write statements" during his detention.

"I was beaten in Tiananmen Square. My nose was bleeding and I was punched all over the body and in the head," Dolnyckyj said. "I was dragged into a van. We were detained for over 24 hours. "During that time, many people were also pushed, slapped and kicked and hit and they were trying to get us to write statements."

Cindy Gu, a member of Toronto's Falun Gong community, said Dolnyckyj's mother told her she had been informed her son was to arrive in Toronto late Wednesday night, where he would be greeted by a crowd of family and friends.

"She was concerned about his safety, but she felt that they did not break any laws, so she didn't think anything bad would happen," Gu said of Dolnyckyj's mother.

Fellow Canadian protester Joel Chipkar, also of Toronto, was released early Tuesday and was to be among those welcoming Dolnyckyj home, Gu said.

[...]

The demonstrators called for an end to China's often brutal crackdown on Falun Gong. The group says more than 300 practitioners have died from torture and abuse in custody since China's communist leaders outlawed the movement in July 1999. Thousands of followers have been imprisoned.

Chinese Falun Gong members are regularly detained and often beaten and kicked for demonstrating on Tiananmen Square, the country's symbolic heart. But Tuesday's protest was the first to involve only Western supporters of the movement.

Falun Gong said demonstrators also included Australians, French, Germans, Irish, Israelis, Swedes, Swiss, Britons and Americans. The U.S. Embassy in Beijing said six Americans detained had all been expelled by Wednesday evening.

Seven demonstrators were Swedes, said the Swedish ambassador to China, Kjell Anneling, noting that the protest would focus attention on allegations of official brutality against Falun Gong adherents. Sweden, like many European countries, has told Chinese officials their treatment of Falun Gong followers "is not acceptable," Anneling said.

[...] Officials have imprisoned followers in labour camps and re-education centres to force them to renounce the group.

Toronto Star: Canadians arrested in Tiananmen protest

(Clearwisdom.net)

November 21, 2001

Canadian Held in Tiananmen Protest

Falun Dafa led Zenon Dolnyckyj away from a life of drugs and hopelessness, his mother said yesterday.

This is why the Thornhill resident travelled to Beijing to try to spread the message of how the spiritual movement, now banned in China, had made him a new man.

"He was a young man going down a very dangerous road physically and mentally," before he discovered Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) a little more than three years ago, Orysia McCabe said.

Dolnyckyj, 23, was one of two Canadians among 33 protesters dragged off by Chinese police yesterday after unfurling a banner and staging a peaceful demonstration in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.

The men and women, from 10 different countries, looked like ordinary tourists until they suddenly sat down, legs crossed, eyes closed and hands pressed together as if in prayer.

In an early-morning phone call to alert friends in Canada, Dolnyckyj said he had been kicked and punched by police, said Cindy Gu, a friend and Falun Dafa practitioner in Toronto.

Fellow protester Joel Chipkar, of Toronto, was released yesterday and was heading home, Gu said. The other detainees could be deported as early as today, Swedish Ambassador Kjell Anneling said this morning after meeting with Chinese officials.

McCabe said she thought she'd lost her son when he was 19 and his life revolved around getting high. The teenager had moved out of the house, was in between jobs and living in a dank basement.

"His life centred around drugs," said McCabe, who feared for his future. "I would have never dreamed there would have been anything that could change him this profoundly. It (Falun Dafa) gave me my son back."

The young man who left for China last Thursday is now living a life "full of love for his fellow man," McCabe said. She said it was important for her son to take part in the protest in Tiananmen Square because he wanted average Chinese people to see that the movement has followers worldwide who are not persecuted outside China for their beliefs.

Falun Dafa says more than 300 followers have died in custody and thousands have been sent to prisons and labour camps. The group, which says its philosophies and slow-motion exercises promote health and good citizenship, attracted millions of Chinese followers in the 1990s.

Before he left Canada, Dolnyckyj told his mother: "We have to let the Chinese people know the rest of the world does not treat Falun Gong the way the Chinese government does."

When he was arrested, Dolnyckyj was holding aloft a banner he had made out of a pillowcase and on which he had written in red Chinese characters, "Falun Gong is good."

McCabe, 51, said she is proud of her son for standing up for a cause he believes in so deeply. Last night, she still did not know the fate of her son.

But she said she was far more worried about her son in the days his life was spiralling out of control.

Dolnyckyj discovered Falun Dafa on the Internet. McCabe said her son was so intrigued by what he read that he flew to Boston to learn it.

"Since then it was the difference of day and night," McCabe said. He stopped taking drugs and drinking, moved back home and is now studying part-time at Ryerson University.

ABC(Au): Fiance of Falun Gong detainee defends actions

Wed, 21 Nov 2001

The fiance of one of the Australians being held detention in Beijing for practising Falun Gong, has defended her actions.

Melbourne's Kate Douglas was one of 35 followers of the banned movement who unfurled banners and performed the outlawed exercies of Falun Gong in Tiananmen Square.

The Chinese Government outlawed the movement, which revolves around exercises aimed at cultivating the mind and spirit, in 1999.

The fiance of Ms Douglas, Simon Vereshaka, is imploring the Chinese Government to release her and all detained practitioners, saying his fiance's done nothing wrong,

"She wanted to raise awareness about the persecution and it is really vicious, they are killing practitioners, they are sending them into mental institutions, heavily overdosing them with drugs as well they are beating them severely," he said.

Mr Vereshaka and a number of Melbourne Fulun Gong practitioners will hold a peaceful appeal outside The Melbourne Chinese Consulate on tonight..

Canadian Press: Canadians Among 35 Pro-Falun Gong Westerners Arrested in China, Group Says

BEIJING (AP) - As hundreds of Chinese looked on in surprise, police detained more than two dozen Westerners who unfurled a banner in Tiananmen Square on Tuesday afternoon and chanted slogans in support of the banned Falun Gong [group].

A group of Westerners, most in their 20s and 30s, had been talking among themselves and taking photographs for nearly an hour when they sat down shortly after 2 p.m. (0600 gmt) in the lotus position, their eyes closed and their hands together as if in prayer.

The nationalities of those detained were not immediately clear, though one wore a T-shirt depicting the Canadian flag and another carried a German flag. "Purge the evil," some chanted in Chinese, a common Falun Gong invocation.

Police vans quickly encircled the group, and uniformed male and female officers began separating those whose arms were interlocked.

Group members - both men and women - resisted for a time before police managed to load them into vans and drive off.

Beijing police refused to confirm the detentions. However, the official Xinhua News Agency reported that 35 foreigners had been detained for displaying a banner of the [Jiang Zemin government's slanderous term omitted]. [...]It said the incident was under investigation.

Falun Gong said 36 people participated, including demonstrators from Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The high-profile location they chose for their 10-minute protest, Tiananmen Square, is the symbolic heart of China and has been a regular venue for protests by Chinese Falun Gong followers - and the site of tight police security for many years.

On Tuesday, authorities seemed to have advance word that something was imminent; some moved into position at 2 p.m. as if anticipating problems.

When they made the arrests, they used none of the rougher tactics often employed in arresting Chinese followers of Falun Gong - which have included punches, kicks to the head and beatings with truncheons.

Chinese authorities have pursued Falun Gong followers since the government outlawed the group in July 1999.

[...] Falun Gong says almost 300 followers have died in custody during the crackdown and that many more have been tortured and abused. Thousands of followers have been sent to prisons and labour camps.

At the demonstration Tuesday, Chinese looked on, agape, as police swooped in.

"Foreigners," one said.

One demonstrator broke from the group briefly and ran around in circles near onlookers, wielding a banner in the sect's trademark yellow. "America knows, China knows, the world knows! Falun Gong is good," the man said.

Police stopped him shortly afterward.

There were no visible signs of tightened security in Tiananmen Square after the incident.

A statement attributed to the protesters and distributed by Falun Gong via e-mail said the protest aimed to draw attention to persecuted Chinese practitioners.

"We appeal today for the benefit of all Chinese citizens, to let them know that Falun Gong is good and that its practitioners are good people from all over the world," the statement said.

U.S. Embassy officials said they were still trying to obtain information about those detained. Swedish Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Aasa Arvidson said several Swedes were taken into custody.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said she had no information on the protest but reiterated China's insistence that Falun Gong is an [Jiang Zemin government's slanderous term omitted]."

Frankfurter Allgemeine: German Members of Falun Gong Arrested

Nov. 20, 2001

F.A.Z. BEIJING. Ten Germans were among the 35 Western followers of the forbidden Falun Gong movement who were arrested and ordered to leave China on Tuesday following a demonstration on Tiananmen Square. Group members gathered in the center of the Chinese capital with banners bearing the Falun Gong motto -- "Truth, Benevolence and Forbearance" -- to protest China's alleged persecution of their movement. China's state-run radio station said the protesters were issued warnings for disrupting public order.

Falun Gong was banned in China in 1999 after 10,000 members demonstrated on Tiananmen Square against defamation of the movement. The Chinese government views the movement as a [Jiang Zemin government's slanderous term omitted] that has a damaging influence on society.

The movement, which says its philosophies and slow-motion exercises promote health and good citizenship, attracted millions of Chinese followers in the 1990s.

BEIJING (AP) - China expelled six Americans detained with other Westerners for demonstrating against the government's crushing of the Falun Gong (news - web sites) spiritual movement, the U.S. Embassy said Wednesday.

China said the three dozen Westerners detained Tuesday on Beijing's Tiananmen Square would be deported. They included six Americans, who by Wednesday evening had been expelled, said an embassy spokesman, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.

He would not say where they were sent.

China's Foreign Ministry told Sweden's embassy that protesters would be deported on the first available flight, Ambassador Kjell Anneling said. He said the Chinese didn't specify where protesters were held, where they would be flown to or whether they would be expelled together.

The protesters sat cross-legged on Tiananmen Square, chanted and unveiled a banner before police took them away. Anneling said seven Swedes took part. He said the protest would focus attention on allegations of official brutality against followers of Falun Gong, outlawed in China [...].

Sweden, like many European nations, has told Chinese officials their treatment of followers ''is not acceptable,'' Anneling said.

Official media said the 35 protesters broke laws on protest, assembly and cults. It was the first Falun Gong demonstration on Tiananmen Square to involve Westerners exclusively. The square is China's symbolic heart and has been a frequent venue for protests by Chinese Falun Gong members since the group was banned in July 1999.

Falun Gong said demonstrators included Australians, Canadians, French, Germans, Irish, Israelis, Swedes, Swiss, Britons and Americans.

It identified one detainee as Zenon Dolnyckyj, from Toronto. Canadian Embassy spokeswoman Jennifer May said she too was told all the protesters would be expelled.

Diplomats said eight Germans were among those held. Switzerland said three Swiss and a Spanish citizen living there were detained. Australian reports said four Australians were in custody.

Demonstrators said they wanted to publicize the plight of Chinese Falun Gong followers.

Falun Gong says 300 followers have died from torture and mistreatment in custody. Thousands have been imprisoned. The group attracted millions of Chinese followers in the 1990s. Practitioners believe Falun Gong aids health and even gives accomplished followers supernatural powers.

Meanwhile, Falun Gong said Wednesday it feared that a U.S. resident serving a three-year jail term in China for publicizing the [persecution] might have been tortured and brainwashed.

Age (TheAge.com.Au): Falun Gong deportees due back tomorrow

November 21, 11:42 PM MELBOURNE

Two of four Australians expelled from China after staging a protest against [...] persecution in Beijing are due to arrive back in Sydney early tomorrow, the Falun Gong group said today.

The Australians were arrested in Beijing's Tiananmen Square yesterday for protesting against the country's [persecution] on the banned Falun Gong meditation group.

Falun Gong spokeswoman Caroline Lam told AAP that Myrna Mack, 50, had messaged her via voicemail tonight to say she and Kay Belonogoff, 22, were due back in Sydney tomorrow morning.

The whereabouts of two other Australians arrested yesterday, Melburnians Kate Douglas, 21, and Chris Cominos, in his 30s, was not known at this stage, Ms Lam said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said the four Australians were being deported on the next available flight to Australia.

Ms Lam said it was a relief to hear that at least two of the meditation group's members were safe and due home soon.

"We'll be welcoming them with open arms.

"We're in full support of them trying to peacefully appeal to the Chinese government on behalf of all Falun Gong members," she said.

The deported Australians were among 35 foreigners from countries including Germany, France, the United States, Sweden, Britain and Canada who staged a peaceful protest against China's human rights record.

China banned Falun Gong in 1999, [...]. Since the ban, tens of thousands of followers have been rounded up and jailed or sentenced without trial to prison terms in Chinese labour camps.

The group says it is mystified by the persecution because it is a meditation group which advocates peace and personal spiritual development which has no political agenda.

Ms Lam said the deportees plan to hold a press conference outside the Chinese Consulate in Sydney at 12.30pm (AEDT) tomorrow.

A Primary School Student Calls For Help

(Clearwisdom.net)

My father is a farmer who has never been to school. Over the past few years, his health was destroyed by the heavy burden of the family. He lost hope in life and turned to alcohol, which made his temper worse. He often beat and scolded us. In July 1998, we saw a great change in his life. He started practicing Falun Dafa.

He has become a new man; he quit drinking, stopped making trouble, and is more considerate to other people. We all know it is Falun Dafa that is saving his life. My father has been following the teachings of Falun Dafa and has become a very good person, even better than good.

However, on September 28, 2001, at around 10 p.m., the security officer in the village came to our home with 15 or so policemen. They searched the house and took my parents away. On October 9, we received the news that my father had been sentenced to three years in a labor camp. It was like a bolt from the blue. My sister, who is 11-years-old, my brother, 9, and I, who am 14, cried together. We have a 92-year-old great grandmother in the family. My 70-year-old grandfather has been ill for many years. My first uncle is 51, and has dementia. Another uncle is 47 and handicapped. Our whole family depends on my parents. While they are detained, how can we survive?

I can never understand why the police put them in jail. My parents practiced Falun Gong only to be good people. What crime have they committed? I ask you officials at the various levels to think about it. Who is going to take care of my family? Under these circumstances, I appeal to the responsible officials to release my parents immediately and let our family reunite.

[China] Many Dafa Banners Appear in a Northern City Demanding to Punish Jiang Zemin and the Head of the "610 Office," Luo Gan, for their Persecution of Falun Gong

On October 25, 2001, in a northern Chinese city, more than 50 Dafa banners and 1,000 small banners and stickers with "Falun Dafa is good," "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," "Restore Justice to Teacher," "Punish Jiang Zemin and Luo Gan, the Head of '610 Office' for their Illegal Actions," written on them appeared. These banners became a discussion topic throughout the city. This strongly frightened the evil and awakened people. People observed happily, "Falun Gong is really marvelous."

[Yongjing County, Hebei Province] No. 1 Middle School of Yongjing County Persecutes Under Age Student

In late October, two middle school students from Yongjing County of Hebei Province went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. After they were arrested and brought back to Yongjing County, the County Public Security Bureau did not dare to detain them longer than 24 hours because they were both under age. They were instead sent back to school. The school authorities, however, not only refused to release the students, but also wouldn't allow their family members to see them. The school authorities forced every class in school to write a paper to "expose and criticize" Falun Gong and then reported the writing to the authorities.

The county educational bureau required all of the students at the middle school level and below to write "promises" not to practice Falun Gong, and to report each other to the authorities. Students who do report others to the authorities are to be commended. They also threatened the students, saying, "Any one who practices Falun Gong will be arrested by the police." In order to prevent practitioners from going to Beijing to appeal, the county "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) arrested practitioners everywhere and sent them to brainwashing classes.

[China] The Persecution of a 76-Year-Old Dafa Practitioner by the Evil Forces

Zhang Hongchang is 76-years-old. Because he is resolute in cultivating Falun Dafa, his retirement pension was stopped in April 2000. After he went to Beijing to appeal on July 19, 2000, the police sent him to prison. He was released after 25 days. In November 2000, Zhang asked the town government and Culture and Education Department for a document verifying that they stopped his retirement pension, but they refused provide one. In December (lunar calendar), Zhang had a headache and was cold all over his body. He had difficulty moving. On December 19 (lunar calendar), the leader of the Culture and Education Department returned 500 Yuan RMB (one month of average salary in China) of his retirement pension to him along with 25 kilograms of rice. However, at noon the next day, December 20 (lunar calendar), the town head and six policemen entered his house, pulled Zhang out of the bed, used a quilt to wrap his body, forcibly sent him to prison, and illegally detained him for 70 days. He was released only because the labor camp was afraid that they would be responsible for causing his death.

[Baishan City, Jilin Province] Dafa Practitioner Illegally Detained

Dafa practitioner Wang Xia (female) was taken away from her home on November 10, by the Baishan City Public Security Bureau. She is being illegally detained at the Baishan City Detention Center. Her in-laws are the only ones who can look after her 3-year-old child.

This incident happened because Wang Xia passed on a letter written by her husband, Fang Ming, who has been illegally detained in the Baishan City Labor Camp for half a year. She gave the letter to a person who had once given up practicing Falun Gong against his will. The police authorities were so disturbed because this letter caused this person to publicly declare that he will start to practice Falun Gong again.

[China] If Every Fellow Practitioner and Family Member Use Righteous Thoughts to Face the Persecution, then "evil will of itself no longer exist"

The "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) in a city held an intensive brainwashing class and illegally arrested many practitioners. The practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts to eradicate the evil. Then all of them went on hunger strike demanding unconditional release. They refused to cooperate with the evil in any way. At the same time, the family members of the practitioners went to the government departments demanding the release of the practitioners. On the ninth day of the hunger strike, all of the practitioners were released.

After they were released, one of the practitioners, on June 29, was again illegally taken away from home. He refused to cooperate with the evil and was beaten up by the police. He was then sent to the hospital for emergency treatment and then back to the brainwashing class. He has been resolute in cultivating Dafa with an unshakable heart and has been sending forth righteous thoughts to eradicate the evil all along. After the people from the "610 Office" illegally took him away, they also tried to extort money from his family members, calling it "living expenses" and "guarding expenses." His family members told the "610 Office," "You illegally arrest people and still ask us for money. You are absolutely lawless! There is no money for you!" The family members sent a cotton-padded jacket to the practitioner to protect him from the cold and told him, "They (the police) have brought you here. They should send you back in the same way." The head of the police could not extort money from the family. He was also unable to force the practitioner to give up practicing Falun Gong. Therefore, he had no choice but to use a car to send this practitioner back home.

From this story, it is clear that if every fellow practitioner and every family member can use righteous thoughts to face the persecution, then "evil will of itself no longer exist." Just by having your heart unaffected, you will be able to handle all situations.

[Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] A New Round of Horrific Brainwashing Classes Held in Chengdu City

On September 28, more than ten Dafa practitioners including Jiang Zhenmei (female, 74-years-old), Zheng Miaojun (female, 70-years-old, who has overseas Chinese relatives), Li Farong (female, 51-years-old), Fei Sujuan (female, 63-years-old), Luo Hui X, and Zhao Yu were forcibly taken away from their homes by people from the Jiangxi Street Police Substation of the Wuhou District Police Station in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province and by people from the "610 Office" (an agency created specifically for the purpose of persecuting Falun Dafa). Each of them was forced to pay 5,700 Yuan (more than half a year's salary for an average Chinese worker) every month for the so-called base construction fee, meal expenses, and guard fee. They were not allowed to study the Fa or practice the Falun Dafa exercises in these brainwashing classes. Several fellow practitioners were brutally beaten for practicing the exercises. They were also stripped of their clothes (with only their underwear left on), and were inhumanely forced to stand outside in the cold.

[Hefei City, Anhui Province] A Dafa Practitioner from Hefei Is Abducted

Liu Zhengcun, a Dafa practitioner from Xishi District, Hefei City was arrested by police when he went to visit another practitioner who was in the hospital due to torture. He was illegally sentenced to three years of forced labor re-education.

[Gansu Province] During the International Human Rights Commissioner's Visit to China, Vile Gansu Police Kidnapped Falun Dafa Practitioners

During the International Human Rights Commissioner's visit to China, the vile Gansu police didn't restrain themselves. On the contrary, they became extremely vicious. On November 12, they kidnapped Dafa practitioners Yu Jinfang and her husband.

[Beijing] A Kind-Hearted Policeman

A fellow practitioner told me this story: During New Year's Day 2000, a fellow practitioner went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing to validate Dafa, and was arrested. That practitioner led other fellow practitioners in reciting Hongyin (a collection of Master Li Hongzhi's poems) and shouting, "Falun Dafa is good!" A policeman nearby asked her, "Aren't you asking for a beating?" Then she spread Dafa and clarified the truth to this policeman. The policeman was moved by her righteousness and benevolence. He told her his pager number, and said that she could give him a call whenever she needed help. After being illegally sent to a detention center, the practitioner realized that she should not stay there and that she should leave the jail. She put on her shoes and winter coat, and tried to escape by using the excuse of going to the restroom. Unfortunately, the warden saw her. The second time, she successfully ran out without wearing shoes or her winter coat. She ran barefoot to the train station. It was very cold. She had no money with her. When the policeman on duty saw her, he asked her to warm herself in his office. At that moment, she remembered that policeman's pager number. She told the policeman on duty, "I have a friend working in the police station. Could I give him a call?" That policeman came right away. He was very surprised upon seeing the practitioner. Out of his good nature, the policeman bought shoes and a coat for the practitioner. He also bought a ticket for her to return home.

[Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Dafa Practitioner of Chengdu Missing

In the first ten days of this month, it was reported that a fellow practitioner with the last name Fang from the Chenghua District of Chengdu City was missing. At present, it has been confirmed that the police arrested him. The Xinhong Road Police Station threatened this fellow practitioner and forced him to tell them his name and address.

We went to visit his family members. His wife lost 8 jin (about 9 pounds) in one week. His daughter has also become thinner. According to his wife and daughter, they didn't see him, but watched a video of him. The daughter said that her father was beaten, his eyes were closed, and there were clearly wounds on his face. Their family had a very good reputation among their neighbors, as well as in the street office and in the local police station. This fellow practitioner Fang worked hard in his work unit. He always did whatever other people didn't want to do. Why was such a good person arrested and beaten? Simply because he posted Dafa truth-clarifying materials for saving the people of the world? The mother and daughter are very worried about their future and safety. Everyday they have no appetite for food or drink, it's so miserable.

[Hengshan City, Hunan Province] The Brutal Crimes of the Hengshan Police

In October 1999, a Dafa practitioner from Hengshan, Hunan Province went to Beijing to safeguard Dafa. Several policemen from the Political Security Section of the Hengshan Police Station illegally escorted him back from Beijing by plane. The police forced this countryside Dafa practitioner, who lived in poverty, to pay for their transportation fee, and the expenses for their eating, drinking, and entertainment. They also beat this Dafa practitioner with a two-inch diameter club. The practitioner was drenched with blood due to the beatings.

[Harbin, Heilongjiang Province] A Record of Criminal Activity in the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp

Practitioners in Second North Team who practiced Falun Dafa exercises were all brutally beaten up by male police guards and then hanged in the air. They were hanged for several days till one practitioner Tao Hongmei (female) lost consciousness.

Seeing other practitioners being hanged, practitioner Liu Suping (female) went to untie the ropes. A vicious male guard saw her and dragged her by the hair into a small isolated cell. He hung her in the air and shocked her using an electric baton. She was cruelly beaten up.

To force-feed the practitioners, brigade director Wu Jinying instructed the criminal inmates to beat practitioner Zhao Yaqing (a female, over 60 years old, who later died due to torture). When they beat her, they broke her ribs. As the result, she could not move for over one month.

Practitioner Yang Ruiqing (female) was also beaten by male guards because she resisted force-feeding and her face was deformed.

Practitioner Qu Yan (female, over 60 years old) was kicked by the vicious brigade director Wu Jinying because she didn't shout her number when she went out. Her feet were so swollen that she could not walk.

Because she refused to sign the so-called "Guarantee Letter," the male police guards beat up practitioner Lei Chuanqing (female) until she was incontinent. They beat her so badly there was hardly any unbruised skin left anywhere on her body. She was so severely injured that she couldn't move for over a month.

Because Jiang Lihua (female) said, "Falun Dafa is good," she was sent to a tiny and dark cell with no air circulation where she was kept in solitary confinement while being hanged for several days. Her term was also illegally extended for one year.

Tortures such as these happen frequently in Wanjia Forced Labor Camp.

[Harbin, Heilongjiang Province] Some Evidence of Harbin Practitioners Being Persecuted

Qu Fengqing, female, was 57-years-old. Her address: No. 32 Jiancao Street, Dongli District, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. On January 14 2000, policeman Yang Shouyi of Political Security section of Dongli District Police Department extorted 120 Yuan from her as a "Physical Examination Fee." On January 20, police guard Zhao Meiyan of Wanjia Forced Labor Camp extorted 100 Yuan from her as a "Brainwashing Class Fee." On March 14, 2000, police guard Shi Yingbai of Wanjia Forced Labor Camp extorted a 100 Yuan Life Insurance charge from her.

Qu Fengqing's experiences of persecution: She was detained in the No.2 detention center of Harbin City for 81 days. Each person had a space about half a foot wide in which to sleep. In summer, it was hot and very crowded. They were not allowed to use the toilet during the night. In the daytime, they were forced to work for the detention center, making toothpicks, for instance. When inspectors from upper levels came, the guards would hide the working detainees and not allow anyone to speak the truth. Criminals of the same cell stole clothes from her. She was put in shackles and slapped in the face because she did the exercises. After she was transferred to Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, she was forced to do heavy labor, e.g. loading and unloading the truck. For the night shift, she had to work until past midnight. For the day shift, she had to work until ten in the evening. She was also forced to make slippers. This job required using poisonous adhesives to glue the bottom of the slippers without any health protection.

Huang Ming, female, is 39-years-old. Her address is: #848 Qiluniidao Street, Dongli District, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. On January 14 2001, Policeman Yang Shouyi extorted 120 Yuan from her as a "physical examination fee." On January 20 2001, Zhao Meiyan of Wanjia Forced Labor Camp extorted 100 Yuan from her for a "brainwashing class fee." On March 14 2001, Shi Baiying of Wanjia Forced Labor Camp extorted 100 Yuan from her as a "life insurance fee."

Huang Ming's experiences of persecution: She was illegally detained in the No. 2 detention center of Harbin City for 3 months. The authorities had no legal reason to detain her, but in fact kept her beyond her term. In the detention center, one detainee has a space only half a foot wide to sleep. It was so crowded that it was difficult to breathe. Besides, they were not allowed to use the toilet during the night. During the day, they were forced to work, and sometimes worked very long hours. When upper level cadres came to inspect, the guards would hide the work they did. After she was transferred to Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, she had to sleep on a wet wooden bed and this caused her to have large areas of scabies. She also had to use poisonous glues during the work but without any health protection. Because of the scabies, she was sent to the hospital. The labor camp used this as an excuse to extort a lot of money from her family. In the camp, the guards instructed the criminal inmates to beat her up when she studied the Fa or did the exercises.

Solemn Declaration

I was arrested while distributing Falun Dafa materials and sentenced to a two-year term in a labor camp. When I was sent to the labor camp, I had already been on a hunger strike for six days. The police tortured me by forcing me to stand in a very painful posture with my back against the wall, my head dropped forward, and with both hands pulled up behind. I was denied sleep during the night. On the next day, I saw practitioners who refused to denounce their belief in Falun Dafa being badly beaten. Their faces were distorted and they were unable to open their eyes as a result of the torture. They needed help from others to go to the restroom. As a result of hearing the screams of pain, and witnessing the unbearable, cruel scenes, I felt as if I were in hell.

I was afraid. I hesitated under the threat of death, and under heavy pressure of threat and torture, I was forced to sign a "statement of repentance" (to give up my belief).

When I returned home, I was in deep pain because I knew I had done something that a practitioner should never do. With fellow practitioners' help, I read Teacher's article, "Coercion Cannot Change People's Hearts":

"[The bad people] produce fake scriptures, disallow students to sleep, fabricate charges, frame students, spread lies, and so forth. Being threatened severely, deceived, and pressured greatly by all those indecent means, some students have written things like the so-called 'guarantees to stop practicing' or 'statements of repentance' when they were not in their right minds and forced. None of those were genuine expressions from the students' hearts--they were done against their will. Although they had attachments, were momentarily taken advantage of by the evil, and did what a cultivator should not, a cultivator ought to be looked at in his entirety."

From the bottom of my heart, once again I deeply felt the great mercy of our Teacher.

I solemnly declare, the "guarantees" to the evil people and all the things against Dafa that I was forced to write under pressure are invalid. I am back to the great task of rectifying the Fa. I will validate the Fa with my life to make up the damage I have caused toward Dafa, and will be a genuine particle of Dafa.

Solemn Declaration

I obtained Falun Dafa in 1996. Before, I did not work very hard at studying the Fa. I was always under the influence of my everyday person's way of thinking. Although my righteous belief in Dafa is fairly strong and I always follow Teacher's Fa-rectification steps, whenever I met with tribulation, I could not understand the Fa according to the Fa, but covered up my attachment and fear with the deviated human thoughts and acquired notions.

In April of 2001, somebody called me to go to the police station. I had no fear at that time. I told the truth and promoted the Fa to them. I told them that practicing Falun Gong could heal illnesses and keep one fit. How could I not study or practice such a good method? Then the people from the police station persuaded me to write a hypocritical "promise to stop practicing cultivation." Teacher said: "Whenever a tribulation comes, you do not see it with the side of your original nature but view it completely from your human side," ("Expounding on the Fa"). At that time, I did not consider it according to the Fa. All my everyday person's heart of fear, sentimentality, and deviated notions appeared. Once my human heart came forth, I forgot the Fa and wrote the "promise," signed with a pseudonym. Teacher said: "If these acquired notions become very strong, they will reverse their role and dictate one's real thinking and behavior. At this point, a person may still think that they are his own ideas. This is the case for almost all contemporary people." ("For Whom Do You Exist?")

Later I thought it was not right to do this. Although I did not use my real name, I wrote the promise myself. I am cultivating toward becoming a Buddha, Tao, or God. How could I make any promise to the evil? Why didn't I restrain my human side with the side that has been successfully cultivated? When I came back home, I felt very depressed. I did not have any appetite for food and I always had interference when I studied the Fa. Always, some demon was saying: "Don't study the Fa. You are no good anymore. Teacher is no longer taking care of you and you are dropping." During that few days, I became aged and weakened. I could not summon my energy. Teacher said: "Whenever I see you suffer hardships, Master feels even more upset than you; whenever you do not take a step well, it really pains my heart. Everything that the evil has done has actually targeted the attachments and fears that you have not let go of. You are future enlightened beings who are becoming Buddhas, Daos, and Gods, and you are not concerned with the losses and gains of this world. So you should be able to let go of everything." ("Eliminate your Last Attachments"). Later, seeing me this way when they visited me, fellow practitioners said, "The demons are happy if you don't study the Fa and practice cultivation, but Teacher will not be happy. You should pull yourself together. Teacher is compassionate and he won't abandon any disciple." Teacher said: "In dealing with relevant, important issues, if a life can really, without any preconceptions, assess issues, then this person is truly able to take charge of himself. Such soberness is wisdom, and it is different from average people's so-called 'intelligence.'" ("For Whom do You Exist?"). By studying the Fa, I found out my shortcomings, my attachments, fears, and deviated thoughts. Thus I work even harder to study the Fa again and again. I won't let the demon, the old force, exploit my loopholes. I am standing up and joining the procession of Hong Fa to doubly redeem the losses that I brought to Dafa and to rinse my stain. Here I solemnly declare that the "promise" I wrote at the police station, as well as the fingerprint I pressed are to be totally disregarded. When we become clear-minded, we will all come back to Dafa. While Fa-rectification has not finished yet, it is still continuing. Teacher is waiting for us to step out of our human nature, to join the onrush of the Fa-rectification. I will work hard to make up for the losses that I brought to Dafa and the damage that I brought to Teacher to become a truly eligible Dafa disciple. Clarifying the truth, exposing the evil, saving the sentient beings, I'll take every step well on the road toward consummation of cultivation.

Solemn Declaration

I was illegally arrested at a railway station on my way to appeal for Falun Dafa in December, 2000. I was taken to the Zhangqian Police Station where I was put in a room of less than five square meters with sixteen fellow Falun Dafa practitioners. The police asked for our addresses. None of us cooperated. We just kept reciting Hong Yin. After being locked up for twenty-four hours there, we were sent to the municipal detention center. That night, the policemen deliberately opened the windows so the cold wind could come in. The following day, two male and two female provincial police came, along with a few others recruited from other jurisdictions to deal with Falun Dafa practitioners in this city. Around 7 o'clock, the interrogation started. Three fellow practitioners were called out and loud swearing was heard soon afterwards. A little while later, they called me out. I saw two practitioners hung with their feet about a foot above the floor. The policemen asked where I lived and what my name was. I didn't tell them. Then they bound me and hung me up, too. I couldn't feel my arms. I felt my blood gushing up my head and before I knew it, I fainted. When I woke up, they kicked my knees while continuing to swear at me. When I couldn't take it any longer, I told them my address. As a result of the torture, I couldn't move my hands at all: the nerves were severely damaged. I couldn't look after myself. I needed help from fellow practitioners with food as well as going to the bathroom. When I was sent back to the local police station, I was kicked, slapped in the face, shackled with ankle chains, and not allowed to go to the bathroom. Having gone through all that, I was still sent to a detention center, where we were forced to write a statement to renounce and defame Falun Dafa. Due to my attachments, I signed the statement against my own conscience.

I now solemnly declare invalid everything I have signed against Falun Dafa. I will double my efforts to make up for the damage done to Falun Dafa and erase the blemish on my cultivation history. I will fully participate in the Fa-rectification process, clarify the truth and offer salvation to people

39 Solemn Declaration Received Today

As practitioners in China face tremendous pressure to give up their beliefs under the Chinese regime's brutal persecution, there are those who have given in and signed documents renouncing Falun Dafa. However, many of these people deeply regret doing so after they are released from detention and labor camps. "Solemn declarations" are the public statements made by such practitioners, often at great risk to their personal safety, to declare to the world that the documents they signed under duress are null and void and that they will continue to practice Falun Dafa.

Here are some of the Solemn Declarations from the practitioners:

Exposing Further Bloody Crimes at Ping'antai Labor-Reeducation Camp, in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province

November 15, 2001

(Clearwisdom.net)

From October 20 to November 4, five male practitioners at the first unit of the fifth brigade in Ping'antai Labor Reeducation Camp went on successive hunger strikes to protest the persecution. They are Qian Shiguang, Zhang Luchan, Li Mingyi (Li Wenming), Shen Shiyong and Zhang Feng. The vicious police at the camp not only denied their lawful requests, but also locked them up in a closed cell and proceeded to intensify the torturing. Their hands were handcuffed behind their backs to the bed in such a position that they could neither sit nor stand. By November 4, there were still three practitioners being tortured. They were Zhang Luchan, Li Mingyi and Zhang Feng.

Because Dafa practitioner Qiang Weixiu in the second female unit resisted their brainwashing, she was handcuffed by the evil police and beaten with an electric baton. She was tortured for eleven days. She still did not give up practicing Falun Gong. She was hung and beaten in the same way for another seven days, which crippled her. Right now, she walks with difficulty and often passes out, but she is still forced to do hard labor.

Dafa practitioner Yang Jun in the second female unit firmly cultivated in Dafa, resisted their brainwashing, and submitted the statement, "I am willing to stop the evil persecution of Dafa practitioners with my life" to the brigade. She was handcuffed with arms to the back, hung up with toes barely touching the ground, and maliciously beaten. Her hair was pulled out and her clothes torn to threads. Her whole body was beaten black and blue with not an inch of normal tissue unscathed.

October 30, I saw a Dafa practitioner in the bathroom. Bones on both hands were fractured, and her legs were beaten black and blue. She could not take care of herself and required help from another practitioner.

The vicious police did not let off over sixty-year-old Dafa practitioner Ren Suzhen. She was hung up in the same way for two hours. They then grasped her hair and banged her head against the wall. Her nose was bloodied and her face swollen. It was too ghastly to behold. She almost lost her life.

Since the building used to punish prisoners needed renovation, they moved the torture room for Dafa practitioners to the vegetable cellar. When the prisoners who were drug-addicts in the labor camp heard about the "vegetable cellar," they shuddered "such a terrible place!"

There was a drug-addict whose picture was posted in the propaganda column, and said that she was a Falun Gong practitioner. On November 2, someone asked her what it was all about. She quietly told the real story: "One day, someone from the camp came to take pictures. They asked me to lie down. Two sticks were inserted into my nostrils, and a tube was put into my mouth. My eyes were closed. After the pictures were taken, I realized it was to make me look the part of a Falun Gong practitioner gone astray and on hunger strike."

A Report on the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Nanpi County, Hebei Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Over the past two years, since July 20, 1999, the public security bureau, the police, and especially the atrocious "6.10 office" (an agency specifically created in order to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems), under the direct orders of Jiang Zemin, have been implementing their policy of state terrorism against innocent people by carrying out the nationwide persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. The situation in Nanpi County, Hebei Province, is no exception. The following is a general account of the persecution going on in this area.

Part I. Torture of Practitioners by Police

Case 1.

The police force of Nanpi County have used various instruments to torture Falun Gong practitioners who exercised their legal right to appeal for Falun Gong Beijing. For example, Li Zhiru (female), Hou Mujiang, Hu Chaofeng (female) and other practitioners were all tortured by police on a device called the "ice chair" (a torture in which one is forced to sit motionlessly for a long period of time). Among them, Hu Chaofeng was forced to sit in the chair for 36 hours. The vile policemen also used other inhumane methods to torture Zhu Yuying, Liu Guiyan and other female practitioners, such as depriving them of food and sleep, forcing them to squat against a wall and hold painful postures, etc for long periods of time. Those who were beaten by police include Wang Jing (female), Chai Baohua, and others. On at least one occasion Nanpi County police went to the rural town of Baoguantun to torment practitioner Liu Zhonghua. They tortured him by letting a scorpion bite him.

Case 2.

A woman named Deng Shulan went to appeal in Beijing around the time of the Spring Festival 2001. Afterwards, some thugs in the town government tortured her. Her arms were broken and her lower back was injured. Her mouth was full of blood and 12 of her teeth were knocked loose by the beating. She fainted several times. Later, the police sent her to the county detention center without informing her family.

The government recruited thugs from every village. They invented a lot of irrational methods in which to torture practitioners, like forcing them to say profanities at Falun Dafa, curse Teacher Li and to give up cultivation practice. The victims include Li Xianwu, Guo Xiurong (female), and Shao Ruixiang.

Case 3.

The police in Luguan Town tortured practitioners under the banner of so-called brainwashing "re-education." They beat the practitioners' faces with their belts and the soles of their shoes. They tied the practitioners to a tree and shocked them with electrical batons. They struck the lower abdomens and genital areas of female practitioners. Moreover, they went further over the edge by forcing practitioners to beat themselves. The victims in this region include Wang Jing (female), Wang Peng, Liu Zhongling, Liu Peihua, Liu Bingxiang, Liu Xijie (female), Xu Wenlan (female), Li Jinxia (female), and Pan Xingzhong.

Case 4.

One afternoon in the fall of 1999, two policemen led by the head of the police station in Wangshi Town cruelly beat a 60-year-old practitioner named Song Binghuan.

Case 5.

Both Cao Hongquan from Baoguantun Village and Li Yanzhong from Wumaying Village had their front teeth broken by the police because they clarified the truth about Dafa to people. Moreover, the vicious police also instigated the practitioners' ignorant relatives to beat them. Wang Jing, Wang Peng and Li Shuangfei were each beaten by their fathers while in the Luguanxiang Police Station, and Li Jinxia was beaten by her husband there as well. The husband of Sun Baoxia from Wangsi Town was incited by the police to stab her with scissors.

Case 6.

In the Nanpi County Detention Center, Song Binghuan was hung up without warm clothing in the open air for several hours during a cold winter night because he practiced Falun Gong exercises in the detention center. A few female practitioners there were made to squat with their backs against a wall in a painful position for hours. Chai Baohua's arms were covered with burns made by prisoners with cigarette butts. Chai told them that they were violating the rules of the detention center, but the prisoners brazenly answered, "This is an order from the guards, and they will reward us with beer if we do well."

Part II. Illegal Confiscation and Imposition of Fines

In the whole territory of Nanpi County, Dafa books and cassettes were illegally confiscated, and many families' TVs and video players were stolen by authorities.

The police ransacked a lot of families' homes with the excuses that the practitioners would go to appeal in Beijing and clarify the truth of Falun Gong or even that they practiced at home. A practitioner named Yang Junfeng from Dalangdian Town had the furniture, clothing and all other articles of his family confiscated. They had to eat on the floor because police even took away their table. Practitioner Wan Guilan's family was robbed of all valuable electrical appliances, and both Zhu Guiying's and Liu Peikai's cattle were taken away and sold. The gas oven and other articles of Liu Zhonghua's family were confiscated. The home telephones of Liu Peisheng and Li Yanzhong were cut off. The villainous police at all levels (county, towns, villages and work place), even extorted money from practitioners in the name of "guarantee deposits" (intended to prevent them from going to Beijing to appeal), "living expenses (practitioners are forced to pay a large amount of money for their room and board while in detention)," "material fees (used to print out materials that slander Dafa)," "traffic fares (fees for escorting practitioners back from Beijing after they were arrested)," "[brainwashing] class fees," and "monitoring fees" (money to pay for cost of tapping their phones lines, sitting outside practitioner's homes, and trailing them wherever they go).

The following is a partial list of practitioners in Nanpi County from whom police extorted money:

Shao Ruixiang, Liu Junqiao, Liu Guiyan, Liu Bingxiang, Liu Zhongling, Liu Zhonghua, Liu Xijie, Liu Hongqin, Liu Dewen, Liu Fengqi, Liu Yieqing, Liu Zirong, Xu Wenlan, Xu Fengqin, Xu Fengchen, Song Binghuan, Li Zhiru, Li Yuhua, Li Hongjun, Li Jinming, Li Shuhua, Li Shuzhen, Yang Shuzhen, Yang Junfeng, Yang Min, Yan Fengru, Zhu Yuying, Zhu Guimei, Zhu Guiying, Ding Huiping, Chen Yueying, Chen Xiuzhi, Chen June, Cao Shulan, Cao Hongquan, Wang Jing, Wang Changfen, Wang Defeng, Wang Jianrong, Wang Hongsheng, Zhang Fashui, Zhang Yuling, Zhang Huifen, Zhang Xiuying, Zhao Jinying, Zhou Shumei, Zhou Hongxin, Zhou Junling, Hou Mingli, Hou Mufen, Hou Mufang, Hou Mujiang, Gong Jinfeng, Jia Xiuxia, Gao Jie, Huang Pingfa, Guo Xiurong, Jiang Wener, Chang Shouxuan, Deng Shulan, Xiao Yun, Qi Jianmin, Gong Jinfeng's mother, Liu Xijie's mother, Liu Peitai's wife, Li Yanzhong's wife, He Qiusheng, Chi Jingxi, Cui Zhenhua, Tang Xiuying, Hu Baolan, Tian Shuzhen, Chu Shuquan, and Sha Mei.

These people were fined upwards of thousands of yuan (RMB) and some of them were even fined tens of thousands of yuan if you add up all the fines against them. After they paid these fines, they were at most given a note (usually a blank note) as a receipt and, in the most cases, there was no receipt at all. The illegal fines have caused tremendous economic hardship and created conflicts within the families of the practitioners and their friends.

Part III. Illegal Detention, Illegal Arrest and Illegal Trial

So far in Nanpi County, one practitioner has been sentenced to prison and seven have been sent to labor camp. They were usually sentenced secretly, even without notification to their families. The sentences of the practitioners in the Nanpi County Detention Center have now been extended without cause. When the relatives asked when their family members would be released, the authorities replied that there was no definite duration for the detention of Falun Gong practitioners. Even a pregnant woman named Liu Xijie was detained for 56 days. Since July 20, 2001, practitioners have been detained just for saying that they continue to practice Falun Gong, regardless of whether they have appealed to the government. Shao Ruixiang, Liu Zhonghua, Ding Huiping, Pan Zhongxing, Xu Wenlan are all examples of practitioners who have been incarcerated for stating that they still practice Falun Gong.

Recently the authorities have begun another round of kidnapping practitioners and locking them in brainwashing classes. Pan Zhongxing was taken away when he was working in the field, Liu Hongqing was taken away while being at work and Guo Xiurong was arrested while doing chores at home. Li Yuhua was abducted by police when she was sleeping at home. Those scoundrels burst into her bedroom and took her away to an old folks home, where she was detained for a long time. In another instance, the authorities tried four practitioners and imprisoned them in the Nanpi County Detention Center without informing their families and without any sort of assessment in a court of law. They even claimed that it was an open trial. These so-called upholders of law are violating the laws themselves!

At present, all of these kind-hearted Falun Gong practitioners are enduring terrible persecution. Some of their families have been broken (for example, Li Zhiru, Song Binghuan, Liu Zhonghua, Liu Peisheng, Li Yanzhong, Chang Shouxuan); some of them have been forced to become homeless and wander about (for example, Liu Guiyan, Liu Xijie, Cao Shulan); some of their children have been deprived of their right to go to school (for example, the three children of Chai Baohua, the son of Chang Shouxuan and the daughter of Chen Xiuzhi); some of their salaries have been cut (for example, Liu Peisheng, Guo Xiurong, Li Jinming, Liu Junqiao, Song Yuer); and some of them have met with economic hardship (for example, the 5000 yuan (RMB) dowry of Yang Shuzhen's niece was used to pay a police fine, the fine paid by Hu Chaofeng's son was money he had to borrow from several different people, and Shao Ruixiang and Liu Zhonghua had to sell their cattle to pay a fine).

All the incarcerated practitioners are handcuffed and shackled. Behind iron doors and iron windows, they are completely deprived of the dignity of human beings and the fundamental rights of all citizens. We must ask what wrong has been comitted by these people who believe in "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance?" Is it just that they try to be good people all the time and in all situations?

Criminal Evidence About Li Changchun and His Vicious Brainwashing Camp in Guangdong Province

(Clearwisdom.Net)

In 2001, Li Changchun, Party Committee Secretary of Guangdong Province, formed a "610" Office (a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches) to persecute the kind Falun Gong practitioners. He did this in order to flatter Jiang Zemin into promoting him to the position of State Council Premier. The "610" Office consists of a group of the Party's political hoodlums and the rogues who are especially good at cheating, framing, and attacking innocent people. The 610 Office's continuous kidnapping of Falun Gong practitioners, and their subsequent disappearance, seriously violates citizens' rights and international human rights norms. It also destroys the international reputation and status of Guangdong Province. This evil behavior has made both Heaven and the people angry, and it has brought some serious natural and man-made disasters to Guangdong Province.

In 2000, the majority of honest cadres in Guangdong Province were passively resisting the persecution of Falun Gong. This angered Li Changchun. He personally created a blacklist, and pressured the related departments to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. They used methods such as spying and framing to arrest many coordinators of Guangzhou City's Falun Gong practice group. These coordinators included Zhao Jingan, Vice President of Nanfang Real Estate Company of Baoli Corporation, and Han Yuejuan, Director of the Media & Communications Department of Guangzhou District and the honored widow of a United Nations employee.

Another vicious method of Li Changchun and his "610" office has been arresting Falun Gong practitioners on a large scale and forcefully taking them to brainwashing classes. Clearwisdom Net reported that many university professors who practice Falun Gong in Guangdong Province were missing. Many practitioners in the Sanshui Labor Camp brainwashing class were actually kidnapped at home or on their way to work by the police or personnel of the "610" Office.

Under the direct instruction of Luo Gan (national head of the Party's Political and Judiciary Committee) and Li Changchun, the Guangdong 610 Office directed the province's Party Work Committee, Higher Education Work Committee, and Law and Judicial Department to form the brainwashing class at Sanshui Labor Camp. This camp is the evil's base for persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners, which detains more than 500 female and 300 male practitioners from many areas. The practitioners who were illegally kidnapped and taken there since March of 2001 include cadres from the Party's committee system, as well as staff and teachers from the province's higher education system, such as Wang Yizhou, Luo Min, Shen Jian, Chen Xianzhang, Tang Luping, Yang Wei, Chen Feng, Lin Tianci, Jiang Wenyi, Zhong Runsheng, Lin Yapeng, Liu Qingshan, Lin Yaocheng, Tian Yulan (female), Zheng Yudong, Lu Xiaohong (female), Pan Xiaoping, etc. Practitioners who had gone through several forced brainwashing classes and had not succumbed were also sent there to be persecuted further. They were from areas like Nanhai, Foshan, and the Huangpu district of Guangzhou City, etc.

The leaders of the evil Sanshui brainwashing class are: Li Qiongyang, Director of Guangdong Party Work Committee, and Wang Jiadong, Section Chief.

The telephone number of Sanshui brainwashing class is: 86-757-7318858

We hereby expose to kind people and nations around the world the crimes committed via brainwashing classes in Sanshui, Huangpu, Huadu, and other areas of Guangdong Province.

Persecution Cases from A'Cheng, Heilongjiang Province (Part II)

(Clearwisdom.net)

(Continued)

The following are a few of many cases describing how Falun Gong practitioners have been detained, subjected to extortion, humiliated, and brutally treated in A'Cheng, Heilongjiang Province.

1. Immediately after July 20, 1999, policeman Lin Song of Minzhu Police Station illegally seized the identification card of practitioner Fan Guoxia, female.

2. Practitioner Zheng Zhenghe, female, 38, lives on Shengli Street, A'Cheng. She was arrested on December 3, 2000 in Beijing for demonstrating Dafa. Then, A'Cheng Electronic Relay Company extorted 5000 Yuan (the average salary of a common Chinese urban worker is about 500 Yuan a month) as payment for escorting her back to A'Cheng. In ACheng she was directly sent to a detention center. She was illegally detained there for 15 days. After returning home, she was constantly monitored at her work place and not allowed to leave town. Before the Chinese Spring Festival, a company security officer, who wanted her "to have a talk with a company head" took her from her home. Instead, she was illegally detained at the security department for a day and a night.

3. Practitioner Song Shunyi, female, 61, a retired worker from the A'Cheng Electronic Relay Company, also paid 5,600 Yuan to Jin Zhongxue of the company between December 2000 and January 2001. Because she refused to write a guarantee to give up her belief in Falun Gong, she was detained twice by police without legal process; she lost her freedom for about three months in total.

4. Practitioner Sun Zaishun, female, 51, an employee of the A'Cheng Electronic Relay Company, was forced to pay 1000 Yuan by officer Zhou of Hedong Police Station. She was illegally detained for 70 days.

5. Practitioner Ye Shuren, male, 64, lives in the Huanwei building in ACheng. He was illegally detained for 23 days for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and paid 9,600 Yuan, to Minzhu Police Station. Also, 3,600 Yuan was deducted from his salary.

6. Practitioner Wang Fengling, female, 34, a resident of Victory Street, A'Cheng, was detained and treated unfairly for one month just for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. In July 2000, the Police Bureau coerced her into paying 10,000 Yuan, and then sent her to a brain washing center.

7. Practitioner Zhang Shujie, female, 54, a resident of Victory Street, A'Cheng, had her identification card illegally seized in July 1999. Policeman Lin Song, Democracy Police Station, threatened her many times to give up practicing Falun Gong.

8. Practitioner Li Xiuling, female, 42, an employee of the Electronic Hardware Super Market, was frequently harassed by policeman Wang Hengxian in June 2000, which seriously interfered with her life and work. On March 22, 2201, she was arrested and illegally detained by policeman Zhou Haidan of the Democracy Police Station. He asked her many times if her mother, husband, and child were also practicing Falun Gong. He even illegally seized her and her husband's identification cards, even though her husband is not a practitioner.

9. Practitioner Sun Mingshan, male, 48, a resident of Linji building, A'Cheng, paid 1,000 Yuan to Zhang Wei, a policeman of River East Side Police Station. On December 7, 2000, he was arrested in Beijing for appealing for Dafa. Then, the Party secretary of his village (Xingguang Village, Yagou Township) extorted 5,000 Yuan from him. Sun was illegally arrested twice. The first time he was detained for 70 days. The second time, he was illegally sentenced to one year of "labor education," and kept in a labor camp for 6 months.

10. Practitioner Jin Xiangshun, female, 48, a resident of Forest Machinery building, A'Cheng, was arrested on February 2, 2000, by Zhang Wei, a policeman of River East Side Police Station. She was detained for 71 days and extorted out of 1 000 Yuan by the police. Zhao Jingzhong, a policeman from the Yagou Town Police Station, also arrested her on November 8, 2000. She was detained for 16 days, and paid 1,000 Yuan to Zhao.

11. Practitioner Piao Yuanda, male, 52, a resident of A'Shen township, A'Cheng, was extorted out of 10,000 Yuan. He was illegally arrested on December 7, 2000, by the A'Shen Police Station for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and was detained for 12 days.

12. Practitioner Zhang Bingzhong, male, 57, a resident of Victory Street, A'Cheng, was arrested on June 18, 2001 and illegally detained for 10 days. All of his Falun Gong books and tapes were seized, and he was forced to pay 500 Yuan. For reading Dafa books, he was arrested by policemen Liu Yi and Lin Song of Democracy Police station. He was forced to sit in an iron chair (torture device) for an hour because he refused to slander Dafa.

13. Practitioner Li Yinping, female, 26, a resident of Victory Street, A'Cheng, was illegally detained for half a day because she went to Harbin City government to appeal for Falun Gong on July 20, 1999. Then she was escorted back to A'Cheng and detained for half the night. Since then, her home has been disturbed dozens of times by street administrators and policemen. They threatened that if she refused to write a guarantee to give up Falun Gong, they would arrest her. On the eve of Chinese New Year, 2001, the street administration office illegally detained her for two days. The street administrators involved in the bullying are Liu Fengxia and Song Xuejun, and the police officers are Zhou Xiaozhang and Xu Hua.

14. Practitioner Zhang Yaru, female, 35, an employee of Liuzhong (No. 6 Middle School) Vegetable Market, A'Cheng, was taken to Victory Police Station, and brutally beaten in 2001. Policemen from A'Shen Police Station searched her home 6 times, seized a Dafa book, and took her to the A'Shen Police Station in the middle of the night on October 1 (Chinese National Day).

15. Practitioner Zhang Guirong, female, 47, a Tongcheng Street resident, A'Cheng, was detained for 48 hours and fined 200 Yuan for going to the Provincial government to tell the truth about Falun Gong on July 22, 1999. In November 1999, her company held her for 4 days and forced her to attend three brainwashing classes to make her give up Falun Gong. In February 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was detained for 91 days. She was forced to pay 4,000 Yuan, and expelled from the Party. During that time, her family traveled a lot and spent about 10,000 Yuan to gain her freedom. In October 2000, her company demanded that her family pay 2,000 Yuan and go to Beijing to find her. On December 20, 2000, she was illegally arrested for demonstrating Dafa exercises in Beijing, and detained for 56 days before being sentenced to one year of labor education. Then, on February 14, 2001 she was sent to the notorious Wanjia Labor Camp. On February 22, for persisting in practicing Falun Gong she was locked into a "little cell" where her hands were tied behind her back, and the rope was pulled up so that her toes barely touched the floor. She was released from the "little cell" on March 9, and her right hand is still numb most of the time. At other times, she was ordered to stand up for almost 16 hours a day, and sometimes not allowed to sleep for over 60 hours. One time she was handcuffed to the cell door for three days and two nights. She is still in the labor camp (This information was provided by another practitioner). Policemen Gao Ruiqiang, Li Min, and Wang beat practitioners very cruelly at Wanjia Labor Camp. As they beat practitioners they shouted, "I will make you suffer inner bruises." There are other policemen who do not dare to show their faces to practitioners so they grab practitioners by their hair and strike their heads forcefully against the walls.

16. Practitioner Li Hongmei, female, 40, is an employee of the A'Cheng Transportation Company. On September 25, 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. On the next day, A'Cheng city police searched her home and seized her Falun Gong books, a portrait of Master Li Hongzhi, a Falun emblem poster, and other Falun Gong materials. Then, during the period of September 30, 1999 to January 25, 2000, she was illegally detained at the A'Cheng Detention Center for a total of 11 days. She was cursed and tortured by policemen during that period. When she was released on January 25, she paid 10,000 Yuan as a "warranty deposit" to the director of the 610 office (a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches) of the City Police Bureau. The warranty deposit is not returned if the person is caught doing Falun Gong activities again. On the same day, officer Liu of the 610 office extorted 150 Yuan from her.

However Li Hongmei was only at home for eight days before the police illegally took her back to the detention center. This time she suffered much more instrumental torture, and was injected with drugs. She was detained for 112 days and extorted out of another 1,000 Yuan as a warranty deposit by the 610 office on May 24, 2000, before she was released.

On October 20, 2000, Li Hongmei was arrested for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing, and paid 150 Yuan to Liu Yi, a policeman dispatched from Heping Police Station, A'Cheng. On the next day she was escorted back to the A'Cheng detention center, where Director Lu of the Peace Police Station beat her. Three days later, 8 policemen from the Peace Police Station beat her with their fists and kicked her because she refused to have her fingerprints taken. She was kicked so brutally that she urinated blood and her hips were black with bruises. Other Dafa practitioners also in detention witnessed all of these activities.

Two days after Li Hongmei was released she was illegally taken from her home back to the detention center and sentenced to one year of labor-education. During this time, she was locked into the "little cell" three times for 8 days, 10 days, and 77 days, respectively. She was brutally tortured by police. For example, she was not allowed to sleep for long periods of time, police grabbed her hair and forcefully struck her head against wall, and she also suffered many other physical punishments. She and ten other female practitioners were even locked into male cells where they were not allowed to change their clothes for up to 20 days. They were tied and hung up, tied to the headboard of a bed in the male inmate's cells, tied to a torturing chair for up to 9 nights and 8 days, and only allowed to sleep on the cement floor for a short time after midnight.

Facts Regarding the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in A'Cheng City, Heilongjiang Province (Part I)

Head of Falun Gong Assistant Center Wu Zhanri Was Abused to Death Soon After His Detention in 1999

(Clerwsidom.net)

Practitioner Wu Zhanri was the head of the Falun Gong assistant center in Fushun City, Liaoning Province. He was arrested right after Jiang Zemin and his associates began the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999. He didn't give in under the pressure and soon died in custody. The police notified his family that he committed suicide. Later, a witness exposed the fact that Wu Zhanrui's ribs were broken when he died. The local newspaper Fushun Daily reported that Wu Zhanrui was "not repentant up until the time he died". So the government decided to revoke his party membership (after his death? Isn't it ridiculous?) All the evidence shows that Wu Zhanrui was abused to death for not giving up his practice of Falun Dafa and not cooperating with the evil perpetrators. He was the first Falun Gong practitioner in Fushun City who died in police custody. His steadfastness in Falun Dafa has encouraged many practitioners and stunned the evil. He deserves the title of "Dafa Practitioner." For various reasons, the news has been released to the public only recently. We hope it would be a comfort to this practitioner who sacrificed his life for Falun Dafa.

Other practitioners in Fushun City who were also abused to death by the police, but detailed information is unavailable at present. It is said that some practitioners jumped off the train to escape and died while in illegal custody. Some other practitioners were paralyzed as a result of the brutal torture.

Tragedy Occurs at the Nanshan Detention Center in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province

(Clearwisdom.net) The World Daily reported that on November 9, 2001, after several hundred merchants at the 46th National Medical Instruments Exposition, had their meal that was provided at the conference, there were nearly 200 people with upset stomachs. This lasted until early the next morning. Among them, there were around sixty or seventy people who had serious cases of vomiting and diarrhea. Nearly 100 people had to be hospitalized.

According to Mr. Feng, who is from a medical instrument company in Beijing, he only had the baked eggplant and braised pig ear, then in the evening his stomach was upset. He did not feel better even when he took some medicine. In the early morning of November 10, the pain was too severe to even walk. After vomiting up the meal, he even vomited stomach bile and blood. The symptoms seemed to indicate that he had taken raticide. [a chemical for killing rats]

The following is the previous report from Clearwisdom.net about the atrocity at the Nanshan Detention Center

http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2000/12/16/4010.html

Many Falun Gong practitioners were tortured in the Nanshan Detention Center, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province. The tortures used were so cruel and debased that they were absolutely outrageous and beyond the ability of words to describe. There will be one day in history when the crimes that happened in this evil den full of horrific atrocities will be exposed to the world. Here's one case of how a young healthy female teacher with an optimistic and cheerful nature was tortured to the point of mental collapse.

Wang Xiaodong, female, was a teacher of Nanshan District Foreign Language School in Shenzhen City. She had been dismissed because she appealed for Falun Gong in Beijing. On April 29, 2000, she was illegally detained in the Nanshan Detention Center. On July 13, 2000, she was sentenced to two years of forced labor and put into the Sanshui Female Labor Camp. However, in the middle of August 2000, a legal medical expert group from Foshan City diagnosed her with a "prison type" mental disease with the symptom of losing her ability to have normal behaviour. It was less than 100 days from the day she was put into the detention center to the day she was diagnosed as having a mental illness. How did it happen?

Since being imprisoned, in order to protest the illegal detention, Wang Xiaodong had been on a hunger strike several times and refused to wear the criminal uniform. However, the wardens brutally tortured her. Later, she wrote letters to the higher authorities and the people's procuratorate (a judicial system) to report the facts of the persecution imposed on her and other Falun Gong practitioners. However, Wang Churong, the director of the Nanshan Detention Center, did not submit it to higher authorities. On the contrary, he showed the letter to a vicious guard, Li Yanzhi. As a result, they began their retaliation. They transferred Wang Xiaodong from cell No.6 to cell No.1, which was notorious for torturing detainees.

Wang Xiaodong went on a hunger strike in the new cell, then as a punishment, all inmates were not served food for a whole day. This stirred up the inmates' hostility and resentment towards Wang Xiaodong. After that incident, the inmates beat and insulted Wang Xiaodong whenever they were not satisfied with her. Everyday she was punished with various methods. The detention center director, Wang Churong, and guard, Li Yanzhi, thought Wang Xiaodong did not cooperate and should be further persecuted. They gathered a group of four criminal leaders to hold meetings several times in order to discuss how to persecute Wang Xiaodong. For a long time they put a pair of 80-pound shackles on her that were almost the same as her body weight. They assigned two inmates to monitor her 24 hours a day and record what Ms. Wang said and did. The two inmates made up some things that Ms. Wang did not say.

Wang Xaiodong became extremely emaciated and feeble. She was too weak to stand, and could not walk at all. Two inmates dragged her back and forth every day. The shackle rings cuffing her ankles had dug deeply into her muscles, which caused her ankles to fester and bleed. It was extremely painful when the iron ring directly rubbed on the bone. But director Wang Churong still did not take the shackle off. Ms. Wang's festered ankles became worse. A few months after Wang Xiaodong was transferred to the Sanshui Labor Camp, her legs and feet remained swollen for several months. Policemen in the Sanshui Labor Camp had never seen or heard of a person being tortured to such a state with only a shackle.

Because Wang Xiaodong could not walk, two inmates dragged her to the bathroom, and left her lying on the floor. Wang Xiaodong could not move and had to sleep in the bathroom during the night. When an inmate went to the bathroom, she first dragged Ms. Wang out. After finishing using the bathroom, the inmate dragged her back into the bathroom. It happened everyday. Anyone who showed sympathy to her would be punished harshly. Once an inmate just said one word to show her sympathy to Ms. Wang, then the guard Li did not allow her to purchase anything for three weeks.

Something most inhuman happened one afternoon. The guard Li instigated a criminal (one criminal who was one of the four criminal leaders in the detention center and in charge of arranging who was on duty everyday), to pierce Wang Xiaodong's insteps and lower legs with a needle used for handiwork. Wang Xiaodong's feet and legs were covered with bleeding needle sticks. Ms. Wang tried to endure the extreme pain. If she shouted, she would be beaten in the face with slippers. But actually it was no use for her to shout. The torture lasted for almost one hour and many criminals witnessed the brutal torture.

On the same night, the persecution escalated. Around 1:00am, the two criminals, who were monitoring Ms. Wang, wanted to sleep. They made a string with thin threads and tied Wang's hands tightly together, and forced her hands to be pressed under her body. With 80-pound shackles and hands tied behind her, she could neither turn her body nor sit up. Her hands were pressed and quickly lost circulation becoming numb and swollen. The criminals beat her if she made any noises. It was really horrible, even worse than death. The torture lasted for six and a half hours until the next morning when a policeman was patrolling the cells. The criminals untied her, and Wang Xiaodong reported loudly to the policeman about the torture she had received. The policeman just left without a reply. Two hours later, another policeman came to patrol the cells. With the string with which she was tied the night before, Ms. Wang reported to this policeman the torture, but the police ignored her as well. The criminals laughed at her arrogantly, grabbed the strings from her hands and threatened her, "Do you dare to report us again? We aren't afraid even though you report us to the director. Wait and see how we will torture you tonight!" Ms. Wang was in deep horror. Later, an old doctor in the detention center went patrolling the cells. Wang reported again to the old doctor about the torture of being pierced and tied up the previous night. She asked the doctor to tell the director. The doctor shook his head with sympathy and went away.

Long-term brutal persecution made Ms. Wang almost collapse. The detention center officials not only did not provide any physical examination or treatment, but also did not give any treatment to her injured feet. Her family asked to visit her many times but they were not allowed. On July 13, 2000, when Ms. Wang was sent to the Sanshui Labor Camp, Wang Xiaodong was extremely thin and there were bruises all over her body. Her muscles atrophied, her ankles were festered and her legs were extremely swollen. She looked sluggish in her eyes. She had no ability to speak, and had no response. Even when she was tortured to such a state, Zeng, the director of the Politics and Security Section of Nanshan District Police Department, and Wang Churong, the director of the Nanshan Detention Center, drove to the Sanshui Female Labor Camp to cover up their crimes and plan further persecution. Not until over a month later did Wang's family find out her whereabouts. But at that time the delayed treatment could not make up for her terrible condition.

Within just over two months, a healthy person was persecuted to such a miserable state. Those vicious people who persecuted Wang Xiaodong bragged, "What is the result of not giving up practicing? Wang Xiaodong is the model."

The Nanshan Detention Center used brutal and inhuman means in order to force Dafa practitioners to give up their practice. They used false numbers in their "conversion rate" report, making the results seem higher than they actually were. The torture used even became the model for other areas. The so-called "Nanshan Experience," was just arbitrary arrest, imprisonment, prison sentence and violence. This was insanely trampling on human rights and breaking the law. If this was the advanced experience to be promoted, where are our country and people heading? It is a heavenly principle that good is rewarded with good and evil is met with evil. How could all of these atrocities not incur disasters and tragedies?

The land and the environment nurture people of a region. The crime of persecuting Dafa committed by the local authorities could also affect the local people. To find out the truth, and stop Jiang Zemin's criminal regime from persecuting Dafa and practitioners is the responsibility of every person who is looking forward to a bright future.

Some of My Thoughts on the Chinese Central TV Channel Program on Teng Chunyan

(Clearwisdom.net)

On November 20 2001, the Chinese Central TV Channel broadcast a program showing how Teng Chunyan enjoyed her imprisonment life and how she was "reformed." Teng is a permanent resident of the United States. She was sentenced to three years' imprisonment in a labor camp. In the program, there are a few sentences that I found have deeper underlying meanings. And I would like to analyze them with you all.

The program said, "One year ago, disregarding her family's repeated urging, Teng came back to China several times from America. She gathered information on how the Chinese government handled Falun Gong. Then she faxed it to foreign journalists in Beijing. She also arranged some interviews for foreign journalists and the Falun Gong practitioners." The program also claimed, "She entered China several times since last February. She spied for and provided national intelligence to foreign countries." This is actually the reason given that Teng was sentenced to a three years' term. The charges imposed on her were "spying for and providing national intelligence to foreign countries."

The above sentences used the words of "gathered information" and "spied for and provided national intelligence" to "foreign journalists in Beijing." This revealed the facts that the Chinese X Party [Note: party name omitted] acknowledged that Teng didn't fabricate anything and Teng simply "gathered the information" and then "illegally provided the information to the foreign journalists in Beijing."

Then what is that reliable "national intelligence" about? We have the photos and the videotapes here abroad provided by Teng. The contents of these materials are all about how the Chinese X Party uses the mental hospitals to persecute determined Falun Gong practitioners. The Chinese X Party has been secretly doing these kinds of disgusting things; using mental hospitals to persecute people with different beliefs. However, the Chinese X Party would never like other people to know this. So the information of these kinds of behaviors belongs to the national intelligence. And we have no doubt that the Chinese X Party bears a bitter hatred for what Teng had been doing. However, we have the following fundamental question for all the people that have the abilities of analyzing problems on their own. Is revealing the truth and stopping the vicious people from their evil doings a crime or is using terror and violence to hurt innocent people and to endanger the country a crime?

Here I also want to ask Jiang Zemin, "Does the Chinese Constitution still have the article of freedom of belief? Then why [do you order] the police to detain the Falun Gong practitioners in prisons or in labor camps and try to 'reform' them to give up their belief? Why do you order the police to abduct the resolute practitioners and forcibly comitt them to mental hospitals and inject the practitioners with drug overdoses to damage their central nervous system?"

If Teng Chunyan is really "reformed" as shown in the TV program, do you dare to release her back to the United States and ask her to repeat that statement in the free world here abroad? If you are afraid to do so, how can you prove that her statement made in front of the Chinese X Party's political propaganda machines are her true words from her heart?

The police arrested Teng Chunyan when she flew to Hongkong and tried to enter China through Shenzhen City's Luohu Port of Entry in May of 2000. One year and a half has passed since then. And only until today has she appeared in an interview on a TV program. What on earth has happened to the imprisoned Teng during the past one year and a half?

I also want to remind the media of the foreign countries of the Chinese X Party's deceitful and lying nature. The Chinese X Party has the immoral skills of telling barefaced lies. If you really want to know how the Falun Gong practitioners were treated in the Chinese X Party's prisons and how the deceitful tricks deployed in those brainwashing classes, you might want to contact Prof. Zhang Kunlun in Canada. [Zhang is a Falun Gong practitioner and he was imprisoned in China for some time just like Teng is.] He is a free person in the free world now and you can ask him to tell you his personal experiences. The statements of the people who still live under terror and coercion doesn't hold much credential in the free world. We want to warn the Chinese Central TV Channel that here abroad, we have kept track of all of your programs slandering Falun Gong. When justice defeats the evil, all of your lies will be provided as material evidence to the court.

Strengthening Righteous Faith is the Core of Cultivation

(Clearwisdom.net) In "Falun Buddha Fa (Lecture at the Conference in Europe, unofficial translation)" Teacher says, "Religions in the West used to teach about faith, while those in the East would teach about enlightenment. The idea is that you have to be resolute. Without this type of mind you can't accomplish anything. In other words, when you don't have a good understanding of the Fa, you won't be able to be resolute."

As I furthered my Fa study and was tempered by the present-day tribulations, I enlightened that in order to have indestructible righteous faith, there's only one way to achieve it: increase my study of the Fa and become more clear about the Fa's principles. The more in-depth the Fa study becomes, the more solid the righteous faith will be.

From the evil's current so-called tests, I further realized that all forms of the evil's persecution towards Dafa practitioners were aimed at ruining their righteous faith by making it waver, thereby achieving the goal of destroying their lives. However, Dafa practitioners' righteous faith in Dafa is indestructible. All those people who have betrayed Dafa did so due to their omissions and lack of enough righteous faith. As Teacher says in "Dafa is Indestructible," "This is a disgrace to Dafa."

Only an indestructible righteous faith can break through all of one's postnatal thoughts and all human mindsets. Only an indestructible righteous faith can enable a cultivator to remain sober-minded, not become confused in tribulations, and thus take every step well in Fa-rectification. Then, the evils will have no place to hide and be completely eliminated by the power of a cultivator's righteous faith.

Righteous faith is the core of cultivation practice as well as a fundamental element in the cultivators' course of reaching Consummation.

Being Responsible to My Child

(Clearwisdom.net) Xiaomei's child, Yangyang, is in fourth grade. Before July 20th, 1999, she had always studied Falun Dafa and practiced Falun Dafa exercises with her mom. Later, she almost stopped practicing Falun Dafa using the excuse of being busy with her studies. Xiaomei was very worried. She spoke with her child several times but did not receive a good response. She always felt that this situation was not right. She thought, "Falun Dafa practitioners should be responsible to sentient beings. Yangyang is my child, so I have more responsibilities to guide her to study Dafa, and that's really good for her. If I let her be, then it's not good for her. If she passed the opportunity to learn Dafa, then it would be my fault that could never be made up."á

One day, she called her child in and said calmly and sincerely, "Yangyang, although you're a child, you're sensible. You were born into our family. Didn't you just wish to learn Dafa? Because you knew [in a previous life] that mom was to be a Dafa practitioner, you became mom's daughter to practice Dafa too. Though our relationship in this life is that of mother and daughter, our genuine relationship [in previous lives] might not have been mother and daughter. Perhaps you were even older than I am. Now you have become my daughter, you're younger. I'm your mother, I will be responsible to you and I will help you practice Falun Dafa. Otherwise, I'm letting you down, letting down your mother in heaven, who is your real mother. She's there waiting for you to go back soon. Don't you want to go back soon? If you don't practice Falun Dafa, how can you go back? Do not miss this opportunity. Think about my words, am I right?"á

The child shed tears while she was listening. Xiaomei's pure righteous heart touched her. Since then, the child studies Dafa and sends forth righteous thoughts with Xiaomei daily. She practices Falun Dafa exercises whenever she has time and her grades in school have become better now. She has also made good progress in all aspects including the relationships with her classmates. Often, she helps Xiaomei post flyers and does other things to validate Dafa. á

Let sentient beings obtain Dafa, assimilate to Dafa, and change their misunderstanding and hatred towards Dafa, and that is to be responsible to sentient beings.á

Pure Heart of Children

(Clearwisdom.net)

When I first started to practice Falun Gong, I thought that my two sons (one is five years old and the other is seven) were too young to practice or study the Fa. As time passed and I reflected on this thought, to my surprise I found that my children study the Fa better than I do because they do not have any interference from everyday people's notions learned in human society.

My husband doesn't practice Falun Gong and often prevents me from teaching our children about Falun Gong. The children and I finally found a time to study the Fa without any interference - during the twenty minutes that I drive them to and from school. We enjoy our time studying the Fa together. When they are quiet, I play the tapes of Teacher's lectures. If they are too active to pay attention, I tell them stories and usually conclude with Teacher's lessons on the subject. Day by day, we improve through this regular study of the Fa.

When I feel depressed during a tribulation, the children sometimes say, "You did not keep 'Forbearance" in your heart," or sometimes they just come over and silently and gently pat me on my shoulder. Every time, at such moments, my bad feelings fade away. The children and I encourage and care for each other in the ways of cultivation. One time when they saw that their father was angry at me because I went to do some work for Dafa, the seven-year-old son said with deep feeling, "I'd better marry a girl who also practices Falun Gong," while my five-year-old son said, "I don't want to get married, I want to go back home, our real home." Another time when I felt confused about Fa validation and how it should be done, my son told me, "We are students during Fa-rectification - we must do the righteous thing." Isn't this a lesson for me? They are helping me with all their efforts.

I have one thought I would like to share with my fellow practitioners: do not think your children are too young or mischevious to study the Fa. They have come to us because they were chosen to be with us before they were reincarnated. They depend on us to help them to realize their destiny. We must honor our responsibilities to them.

Breaking Through The Information Blockade To Clarify The Truth,

Winning Worldwide Support for Fa-Rectification

Hong Kong Human Rights Observer issued a statement on November 16, 2001, during "International Tolerance Day," pointing out that preventing Falun Gong practitioners from appealing was a violation of the Basic Law and basic human rights. In it's appeal to the government, the Human Rights Observer stated that the politically intolerant attitude should be substituted with practicing and promoting tolerance, and encouraging respect for human rights and basic freedom.

My experience while learning to use a computer: A Hong Kong practitioner in his fifties knew nothing about computers. He obtained the Fa from the Dafa website and gradually learned how to download, save, edit files and prepare all kinds of truth-clarifying materials. The computer is not only convenient for promoting the Fa and clarifying the truth, it also plays the role of encouraging us in our cultivation.

The experience of News Jersey State Falun Dafa practitioners in clarifying the truth to government officials of different levels and to the public (Part Three): While thinking from the perspective of the Fa, we can guide ordinary people to oppose the evil persecution. Every resolution that has been passed to condemn the persecution is a heavy and fatal blow to the evil and also a forceful support to the fellow practitioners in Mainland China. It also lays a solid foundation for the kind-hearted public to obtain the Fa in the future.

The novel Yellow Peril published ten years ago has become an officially banned book in Mainland China since it describes in detail an event strikingly similar to the "Tiananmen Self-Immolation Incident". Recently, when CCTV re-broadcast the self-immolation videotape, the dubious points that were analyzed in the deconstruction by overseas experts were cut out. An insider revealed that it was well known by higher officials in the Public Security Bureau that those who were burned were hired by being offered thirty thousand yuan [about five year's salary for an average urban worker] for the deed.

A grey haired mother appealed to rescue her son: Falun Dafa practitioner Yang Xuegui from Lanzhou was abducted in September. The evil policemen used all kinds of inhuman means to torture him. They handcuffed both of his hands behind his back, folding his calves under his thighs. His ankles were handcuffed to the back of the chair. He was left in this position for several days. He had cuts and bruises all over his body.

Latest News From China -- 11/19/2001

Nanmusi Female Labor Camp in Zizhong City, Sichuan Province has been illegally detaining around 1,000 practitioners for a long period of time. Among them, four were tortured to death and an eight-month old baby and a ten-month old baby were illegally detained with their mothers for half a year.

Today, eighty people have published solemn announcements, claiming that all they have wrote, said and done after being deprived of freedom, brutally tortured and forcibly brainwashed by the evil, which were against their own consciousness, are all completely void! From now on, they will double their efforts in making up for the loss they caused to Dafa, completely expose the evil, clarify the truth to people and determinedly cultivate Dafa until the end!

Cultivation Story

Before the 1997 Chinese New Year, whenever the fact that my mother was practicing Falun Gong was mentioned, I felt very unhappy. On the fourth day of the Chinese New Year, when I was resting with my eyes closed, I saw a swastika spinning near my mother. I took up Zhuan Falun and read it from then on. I was so delighted with the book that I could hardly put it down, and began my firm cultivation.

Experience of an Australian practitioner: Dafa practitioners face trials of righteous belief in Dafa all the time. We also understand the principles of Dafa. Break through the old notions in the process of spreading the Fa and truth clarification, eliminate the attachment to doing things with intention, and face the evil with righteous thoughts. Study the Fa more, and be clear about what we are doing, and use different methods to deal with different human's notions.

The Experience of A Third-Year Australian College Student: Make our own contribution during the Fa rectification, proactively clarify the truth to people and become a genuine Dafa particle.

A female practitioner from Sichuan Province detained at the Nanmusi Labor Camp in Zizhong has been subjected to severe beating, cursing and other physical torture. Together with other practitioners, they were once held and confined to a space with a diameter not exceeding one meter (approx. three feet). It was 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) and they were denied of access to water. These practitioners were forced to sit military style for over ten hours a day, and were not allowed to move or talk. They have endured all kinds of hardships during the last two years. Yet their conviction in Dafa has grown even stronger.

My Experience of Validating the Fa in Tiananmen Square: I had polio when I was young. After I started practicing Falun Gong in 1997, all of my illnesses disappeared. I've become much healthier and stronger. On November 18, 2001, at a spot just west to the Monument in Tiananmen Square, I raised the banner proclaiming "truthfulness, compassion and tolerance" up high, and called out "Falun Dafa is good!" People around me echoed, "Good!" I returned home very peacefully.

Witnessing the magnificence of Dafa: I am a junior high school student. I have practiced Falun Dafa for four years. On November 3 when I was on my way home from school, I was hit by a car and propelled more than one meter (approx. 3 feet) away. The car was dented, and the side mirror bounced off my head. I lost consciousness for five minutes. After a day of rest at home, I went back to school as usual. After the accident, my parents kept comforting the driver, telling him about Dafa and letting him know the truth. The driver was extremely touched. He kept repeating, "I've met good people."

Chinese Government Violates Human Rights in Germany

(Clearwisdom.net) On November 10, when the Vice Chairman of China, Hu Jintao and his delegation visited the Germany Science and Technology Museum in Munich, several of our local practitioners went there to clarify the truth of Dafa, and to appeal to the Chinese government to stop persecuting Dafa practitioners.

When we arrived at the museum, it was just at the time that the delegates following Hu Jintao were getting off the tour bus. We handed them truth-clarifying materials, but most of these deceived [by the Chinese government's propaganda] delegates refused to take them. We then went into the museum, but stayed in the hallway. A middle-age [Chinese] man stepped out the room and said to me: "You are not allowed to pass out materials here." I told him, "We are in Germany and this is a public area." He retorted, "Yes, but the order is for you only." Such irrational statements revealed his attitude. Though he knew that the museum was a public area, he still rudely directed overseas Chinese with the authoritarian manner that he is accustomed to using in China.

After a while, a staff member from the Chinese embassy called the related Germany agencies to pressure them. As expected, two German policemen came. We said, "We should have the right to stay here as visitors of the museum." They answered, "Yes, we know that you have the right to stay. But these Chinese people called us, and we have no choice. Let's compromise. You can stay, but please don't pass out anymore materials."

Seeing that the police did not ask us to leave, the staff members from the Chinese embassy were unwilling to give up and continued to make phone calls. Soon a very high-ranking policeman came and asked us to go outside to discuss the issue with him. We were forced to go out of the sight of the Chinese delegation. We asked them [the police], "According to which law can you limit people's freedom while Chinese leaders are visiting?" The high-ranking official also felt it was very unreasonable, and expressed to us many times, "You can appeal what happened today later, but now we just can't let the Chinese visitors see you." Then he inquired, "What on earth is written on your T-shirts?" We explained to him, "What is written is 'Falun Dafa' and 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance.' We can't understand why the Chinese visitors fear to see these words." All the policemen there laughed as well, they couldn't understand why the Chinese government officials feared seeing the words "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," either. Of course, we know it's because evil fears righteousness. The high-ranking policeman said, "I have seen all the peaceful appealing you have made before. I know you are peaceful."

Jiang Zemin's government does not even have the courage to face Dafa practitioners. Instead, they demanded the German policemen to unreasonably limit the freedom of German residents for over an hour, though they had a legal right to be there. Their behavior not only infringed upon the rights of the overseas Chinese, but also violated that of the German people. One of the practitioners suggested, "Since they are afraid to see 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance,' we can let them hear it." So when the Chinese delegation came out of the museum, all of us, including the Western practitioners, shouted from our hearts, "Falun Dafa is good!"

After the motorcade of the Chinese delegation left, the high-ranking German officer shook my hand firmly and said, "I wish you a wonderful future!"

Australia: Using All Means To Bring Truth of Dafa to More People

Recently, at the No. 6 Platform of Sydney's biggest and busiest train station -- Town Hall Train Station, a big beautiful picture catches peoples' attentions. It is a Falun Dafa poster depicting a practitioner meditating in the mountains with a beautiful stream in the background. In the picture there are the words of Zhen-Shan-Ren (Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance) in both English and Chinese and a brief introduction of Falun Dafa. The poster has an apparent contrast with business advertisements around and easily gets passengers' attention while they wait for train.
