A Letter to a Canadian Official from a Practitioner

Dear Mr [xxxx]

I am eagerly asking for your help to free my husband from the persecution of the Chinese government. He was arrested in China about 11 months ago for suggesting to the Chinese government that they should stop persecuting Falun Gong, a peaceful meditation practice with no political interests. The Chinese government sent him to jail without trial. What follows is a brief description of the whole incident.

Last year, while visiting my husband, we learned of the many acts of brutality committed during the Chinese government's attempt to wipe out Falun Gong. So we decided to go to Beijing to appeal to the Chinese government, to give them some suggestions, hoping that they would stop the crackdown on Falun Gong, hoping that they would stop labeling Falun Gong as an XX [slanderous word omitted]. For Falun Gong has helped tens of millions to regain their health, has improved people's moral standards and has benefited the general public tremendously.

However, when we told the government what we thought, what we got in return was ruthless persecution. We arrived in Beijing on December 22. Right after we filled in the form for appealing, we were arrested. They did that while fully aware that I was a Canadian citizen. The next day the police escorted us back to Shanghai. My husband was sent to a prison and later on transferred to a labor camp far away from Shanghai where we lived. Labor camps in China are the Communist's equivalent of the Nazi's concentration camps. I was deported within 48 hours. We appealed to the Chinese government purely out of good will, which is fully legitimate and a guaranteed right under the Chinese constitution, but the police in Shanghai sent my husband to prison without even a trial.

I applied for my husband's immigration in August 1999. We had gone through most of the procedures needed for his immigration. My husband had completed his forms for the immigration medical examination. He would soon get his visa to Canada.

However, since his imprisonment, we cannot see each other again. Moreover, it has been impossible for me to correspond with him. Neither do I know what is going on. It has been like this for 11 months now. My relatives in China were not allowed to see him either, I applied for a visa to China in August this year and the Chinese Embassy turned down my request without giving any reason.

In addition, the Chinese government went further to my relatives. My brother and his wife were arrested many times simply because they practice Falun Gong. They were jailed, tortured, harassed repeatedly because they refuse to give up the practice. Recently my brother's wife, [xxxx...xxx] and my husband's brother, [xxx...xxxxx] were arrested again, the reason were that police suspected them to say truth of Falun Dafa to other people (in China now, not allowed different voice from Government). It's said that this time they will probably be sent to a labor camp for harsher until death punishment, because there is news now saying that the Chinese Government is conspiring to kill some people who believe in Falun Gong.

To show you how suppress and absurd the Chinese government are, I included a notarized document stating the reasons for my husband's imprisonment (See attached files). My husband and my relatives they faced extremely dangerous of their life, simply because they practice Falun Gong. According to reports the total number of Falun Gong practitioners died of torture at the Chinese police has increased to 80. What the Chinese government did has totally ruined my personal life. I can not imagine what ordeal my relatives have been going through.

I urge the Canadian government to help me, and to tell the Chinese government that they are wrong. I earnestly ask the Canadian Government to support me and protect my rights, interests and dignity as a Canadian citizen, to protect my family members to have basic human right.
