In the past week, many Falun Gong practitioners around the world, who published their email addresses, have been attacked by different computer viruses. The victims often lost all of their data. Yet worse, these viruses duplicated themselves spread to other users on the Internet before the computer was turned off. These infected emails are often traced back to the Public Security Bureau in Mainland China.

According to news on December 20 from the Falun Dafa Information Center, those who persecute Falun Gong in China sent infected emails as one of the ways to interfere in communication between Falun Gong practitioners. Today, a virus hidden in a Chinese email infected the computer of Wang Cheng, a Falun Dafa webmaster. The email contains a message that slanders Dafa. Wang said that his computer detected the virus but was unable to repair it before it infected the hard drive and completely disabled his computer. This kind of "wscript.kakworm" virus is particularly insidious and disruptive because it automatically activates when an email is read instead of working through an attached file. The virus will also infiltrate the email address book and send itself to everyone on the contact list, thus causing greater damage.

Such viruses are technically difficult to fix. If larger corporate sites are infected, their system administrators will suffer terribly. Falun Dafa web sites are often attacked and damaged using advanced techniques employed by hackers against large corporate sites, and the source of the attacks can usually be traced back to the P.R.C. Public Security Bureau or companies in China. (Wang Cheng can be contacted at 516-523-9761)

A computer engineer in Silicon Valley said that they had encountered such virus in their company in the past, which caused a lot of headaches. Especially because the infection was sent from the accounts of acquaintances or colleagues, it was very hard to guard against. Computers were disabled one after another. Not only the data was lost completely, but also after it was repaired, the same virus came back from another colleague. Such repeat cross infection is like a nightmare. Later the company told the staff not to open any attached files from strangers or read any email with a specific subject, which should be deleted immediately. But this could not guarantee that everyone does so. Even if everybody does so, it was still not enough. Precautions just cannot defend against sudden attacks.

Another Falun Gong practitioner received an email from a friend last Thursday, December 14. He didn't take any precautions and opened the attached executable file. Then he discovered that his system was rapidly sending messages that he could not stop. He turned off the machine. Later he found out that many of his friends received the infected email. In the meanwhile, the friend who "sent" him the virus was not aware of such a thing at all and had never sent the email.

This is not just an issue of violating Falun Gong practitioners' legal rights and human rights. Every Falun Gong practitioner is a member of society and has normal work and social life. Such viruses can be easily spread to the entire Internet and its damage to society will be unimaginable.

The unprecedented persecution against Falun Gong by several people in the Chinese government has been condemned by governments and people around the world. Although the Chinese government tries with every effort to cover up their cruel persecution, their evil acts have been exposed again and again. The victims are not just Falun Gong, but also all those who are related to Falun Gong, including their relatives, friends, colleagues, and neighbors, which is almost the entire society. This time, the suppressors are not afraid of being a worldwide public hazard with their underhanded activities. International communities cannot tolerant their actions and all Chinese will be humiliated by these actions.
