A Letter to United Nations and the European Parliament from Residents in European Countries

Dear Sir/Madam,

We are residents in European countries. Recently China's government has been brutally and inhumanly persecuting and even killing Chinese Falun Gong practitioners. We are deeply saddened by this and, through this jointly signed appeal letter, express our deep concern as well as calls for swift actions by the United Nations and the European Parliament to help resolve this crisis.

According to reports from some human rights organizations and news agencies, there are already five cases of death in China because of persecution in detention and even more death cases are concealed. In the meantime tens of thousand of people are being detained, among which many are women and old people. More than 10,000 students are reportedly facing the threat of expulsion from school because of their practicing Falun Gong. By carrying out these abuses, the Chinese authorities are brutally trampling on the Chinese Constitution and "International Treaty on Citizenship and Political Rights" which China has signed.

The media in China are completely controlled by the government, so the facts of persecution are completely concealed. The ordinary Chinese people have no way to know the truth, which encourages the persecutors' blatant violation of human rights. The Chinese government manipulates the legislation according to their wishes and has just created a new law to legitimize their persecution.

Under such circumstances, the persecution will become increasingly fierce and even more innocent people may suffer and even lose their lives if there were no action and moral supports by the international community.

The human rights of tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners in China are being trampled. The scale and severity of the atrocity mark one of the darkest times in the history of the human rights movement, and represents a most serious challenge to the UN's principle of Peace and Development.

In view of the serious situation in China, we sincerely wish and seriously appeal to the UN to intervene in the crisis of Falun Gong in China:

1. to investigate the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China, and reveal the truth to the world;
2. to take a firm stand to denounce the ongoing crackdown of Falun Gong as a violation of international human rights conventions that China has signed;
3. to urge the Chinese government to resolute the crisis via peaceful dialogue.
