Case Description:
Ms. Zhang Qiuhong, 60, lived in the Coal-mine Design Institute's family housing Building 13, Apt. 601 in Luyang District, Hefei City, Anhui Province. On October 16, 2005, Luyang District Domestic Security Division Leader Wang Lu led a group of officers to storm into Ms. Zhang's home and attempt to arrest her, but she was not home. They waited for about three hours, but she did not show up. On February 12, 2006 (lunar calendar January 15, the Lantern Festival), Ms. Zhang went home to visit her family. Agent Wang Lu once again invaded her home with a group of officers. She escaped at around midnight, but she had to flee home to avoid being arrested. Party officials stopped her social security pay in December 2007. At around 2:00 a.m. on June 21, 2008, agent Wang Lu, along with other officers, stormed into Ms. Zhang Qiuhong's rented room and forcibly arrested her. Ms. Zhang went on a hunger strike to protest, and her life was subsequently in danger. The police took her to the Hefei City First Hospital. They finally agreed to let her obtain a guarantor for her pending trial on June 30, 2008, after she passed out 19 times. She was finally checked out of the hospital on July 17, 2008. Her younger brother took her to his home in northern Anhui Province. Her eyesight was blurry, and she often passed out. The police still called her brother's home to harass her under such conditions. In late September 2008, two agents from the Luyang District Court came to her door again, and forced her to sign her name to prove she was home. Ms. Zhang died at 3:00 a.m. on October 18, 2008, as a result of the continued persecution. Related articles:
