Mr. Zhu Hongbing was an employee at the Seventh Oil Collecting Plant of the Daqing City Petroleum Bureau. He was sentenced to seven years in the Hongweixing Prison in Daqing City at the end of 2001. He refused to be brainwashed or wear the prisoner uniform, and was tortured brutally as a result.

In 2002, after being brutally beaten by the guards, he was hospitalized soon after entering the prison. He was unconscious for 24 hours. Six months after this beating occurred, he still had intravenous tubes.

On May 12, 2005, while imprisoned in a cell containing ill inmates, Mr. Zhu Hongbing and another practitioner, Cheng Peiming, were stripped, forced to put on a prison uniform, and tied up for twenty-four hours.

In March 2007, while Mr. Zhu was detained at the Tenth Section of the Fifth Ward, guard Yang Youlong directed prisoners Gao Yuan and Teng Yimin to beat him until his body was covered with cuts and bruises. He became very ill and borrowed an inmate's cell phone to call home. Guard Yang Youlong extorted 800 yuan from him after he learned about the call.

On the afternoon of February 29, 2008, Mr. Zhu was sitting on the bed to send forth righteous thoughts. Guard Yang Youlong stormed into the cell and ordered prisoners Gao Yuan, Teng Yimin, and Zheng Hongyu to beat him. The inmates pushed him to the floor and kicked and punched him. His nose bled, he had chest pain, his lung was bruised and he had difficulty walking after the beating.

Mr. Zhu's term was to end by December 2008, but the prison administration refused to release him. Mr. Zhu went on a hunger strike until his life was endangered. Four people carried him out of the prison on December 29, 2008. His family picked him up and took him to the hospital. His lungs had shrunk to the size of eggs. Mr. Zhu survived for six months in extreme pain and died on June 18, 2009.
