On October 26, 2001, a 22-year-old woman was arrested while she was validating Dafa in Tiananmen Square. While being held in the Dongcheng Detention Center of the Beijing Public Security Bureau, she went on a hunger strike to protest her illegal detention. She was tortured to death on November 3, 2001.
